AAA Word From the Pastor
This Sunday, May 13, we celebrate Mother's Day - the one day set aside each year to pay trib-
ute to our mothers and to thank them for the life we have and enjoy and most especially for
their love over the years. The Church has the practice and devotion of a Novena of Masses
beginning on Mother's Day in which we can enroll our mothers, grandmothers, sisters, aunts
and, in fact, anyone we wish who has assisted our mothers and/or fulfilled the role of being a
mother for us. There are Mother's Day Cards for presentation to the person you enroll in the
Novena at the doors of the Church as you leave Mass today.
Thank you to the generous parishioners who are helping us reach our parish goal for the 2018
Catholic Ministries Appeal (CMA). We're getting there, week by week. As of this bulletin,
we are at 86% of our goal. Just a reminder, if you have not as yet made a pledge or given a
gift, please consider joining me and your fellow parishioners who are helping us meet our
goal. Your gift to the CMA supports a variety of diocesan ministries which serve the people
on Long Island AND as you already know, helps the parish reach its goal. You can use the tear
off in this bulletin or the card you received from the Diocese.
As announced last weekend, the demolition and building of new stairs and the new ramp for
the Church will begin on Monday, September 24th. During that time, entrance to the Church
will be through both side doors and the elevator. More details as we get closer to the date.
This weekend, the second collection is for the Annual Catholic Communication Campaign.
This annual national appeal support efforts throughout the United States and around the world
to use the media, internet and print publications to help people connect with Jesus Christ and
the Church. Help spread the Gospel by making a donation to the Catholic Communication
Campaign.
All parishioners are invited to see the presentation Mary 101 this Wednesday. Please see the
announcement on page 7 for more details.
The ANNUAL PARISH SPRING RAFFLE will be held next month. Letters announcing the
raffle with chances will be mailed this coming week to all parishioners on the parish mailing
list. There will be three prizes of $1000 each. Chances are $10 each or 6 for $50. I hope I can
count on your usual generous support of the raffle. Perhaps you can help the parish by invit-
ing and/or asking some relatives and/or friends to buy some chances. The proceeds from this
raffle will be added to the funds we have set aside for the new steps and ramp.
Thank You to Kathy Rea for her generous offer to chair the FUNdraising Committee at
HNJ. Kathy comes with much enthusiasm and great ideas for future FUNdraising activities.
Why not join Kathy, the Committee members and me at our next meeting on Wednesday,
June 6 at 7:30 PM in the parish library.

FOCUS: We are called to renew the world through the power of the Risen Christ. In order to live that mission, we must renew ourselves through repentance for our failures and faults. We confess those sins and beg forgiveness from a loving God and from our brothers and sisters in faith. In the first reading the apostles await the fulfillment of God’s promises. They seek the Lord’s help in prayer. In the
second reading we are called upon to imitate the love of God. In this way the unseen God will be revealed to others. In the Gospel, Jesus prays to the Father for the protection of his disciples. Published by Franciscan Media
