Early works – Noise/pollution Mitigation trialsCSjv Hybrid/electrical plant trials at St James’s Gardens:
• 1.5 tonne excavator and tracked mini-dumper
• Reduced noise & pollution (& carbon footprint)
• Challenging suppliers to embrace new technology &
equipment to reduce impact on local environment
Hydrogen powered lighting equipment trial at OOC:
• Quiet/no pollution - only emits water
• Automatically request refill when nearing empty

Ongoing Design Development-Euston Throat
Skasnska – Costain -Strabag (SCS) joint venture awarded ‘Euston Tunnels’ contract July 2017
The Contract covers Hampstead Road Bridge to Old Oak common Station box
Design development based on extending tunnels south of Mornington Street Bridge, as previously presented
Scheme design well underway, to complete by Autumn 2018:
No HS2 planned bridge demolitions
no AP03 large Dive-under at Park Village East
Reduced demolitions in the throat
Significant reduction in disruption at existing station
Within the Hybrid Bill Limits of Deviation

Indicative Timeline for Engagement – LU Vent shaft and Euston Station Design
SCS are working with HS2 to develop a Material by Rail (MbR) proposal
1.Have appointed experienced rail logistics team (Legge) with a proven track record in
transporting materials by rail (MbR)
2.They are developing an MbR Strategy that covers the whole of HS2’s Area South
3.Will comply with the Undertakings and Assurances (included within all HS2 contracts)
Material by Rail (MbR) - background

SCS has signed & submitted ‘FCTAC’ (Freight Customer Track Access Contract) to NR
which will give them track access rights and ability to secure the train paths into Euston
Market engagement days held with all of the freight operating companies (FOCs)
Procurement process commenced in April
SCS are working with Suppliers and NR :
a) To confirm options available to transport Excavated Material by Rail
b) Confirmed 9 suitable and available deposition sites linked to a Railhead
c) To identify options for transporting Tunnel segments and Bulk materials by Rail
MbR - Recent progress and Future plans (1)
Page 16
MbR Test train:
A test train was run on 2 May 2018 to ensure the network can cope with the train loads
Test train consist of 2 class 66 locos and 15 fully loaded waggons
Preliminary feedback: test runs were successful
sectional running times Euston to Wembley can be achieved
Formal report will be used to support planning
Next Phase:
• Up to 7 train paths a day potentially available
• Work with NR to book freight paths in 2019 – 2020 timetable
• Availability of Platform 17 to be confirmed
• Efficient waggon loading system to be designed

Noise Mitigation
SCS specialist acoustician on board early June
Predictive noise assessments on scheme design due by autumn ’18
Noise insulation will be available for any additional eligible properties identified
No change to requirement to meet Environmental Minimum Requirements and to mitigate as far as
practicable to reduce impacts
‘Best Practicable Means’ mitigation measures could include:
a. Hoarding heights maximised where required, above the COCP standard
b. Developing designs/methods to maximise working within core hours
c. Maximise vehicle movements during core hours, even for 24hr operations
d. Adapted equipment developed with suppliers eg piling rig shrouds / curtains and auger cleaners
e. Site compound layouts designed to reduce noise impacts
Presentation for ECRG on construction phases will be developed over the summer
