Fast Facts... The success of Catholic schools is important to the Catholic community but has implications for the greater common good as well. Catholic schools continue to save public schools billions of dollars each year. For example, it costs Chicago city schools more than $10,000 annually to educate each elementary school student. By educating over 90,000 students in the 2007-2008 school year, Catholic schools in the Chicago area saved the public school system over one billion dollars. Nationally, Catholic schools save taxpayers more than $20 billion. (Taken from To Nurture the Soul of a Nation: Latino Families, Catholic Schools, and Educational Opportunity, Catholic School Advantage)

Service Project...This past Friday, the 7th grade class sponsored a hot dog lunch to help the relief efforts in Japan as a result of the tsunami and earthquakes. A wonderful example of how our students demonstrate their Christian faith. Thank you for organizing this seventh graders!

Upcoming events...Holy Family's annual 3-on-3 basketball tournament will take place on Saturday, June 4th in the school's parking lot. It is open to the public -- all students are welcome (those entering 3rd grade through 10th grade). This event is a ton of fun and a great way to kick-off summer vacation! Detailed information can be found at www.hfcatholic.org.

Registration is currently taking place for the 2011-2012 school year. Call the school office for more information or to register your child, please call the school office at 630-766-0116.

MEET A SEMINARIAN MICHAEL PAWLOWICZ

A week or two after coming to the University of Illinois as a freshman, Michael Pawlowicz, walked into the build-ing on campus that his Dad had pointed out as the Catholic Church and from there, Michael began the work of “ reconstructing” his faith life. –attending daily Mass, joining a Bible study and taking his faith life seriously. For no particular reason , he found himself online, searching about information about the priesthood , but at that time was not yet prepared to let Him become his life.

Going to Peru on a missionary trip, Michael recalls being surrounded by people “who loved God passionately.” He saw a fire within those people that was clearly the cause of their joy and he wanted it. Back home, through prayer, fellowship and spiritual direction of a “fantastic” priest, Michael says that he came to know what God wanted of him. He broke up with a girlfriend of four years and contacted Fr Burke Masters, the Diocese’s Voca-tions Director. Accepted as a seminarian for the Diocese of Joliet, Michael attended St John Vianney College Seminary and is now a second year theology student at the Pontifical North American College in Rome.

¡Aleluya! ¡Gloria a Dios!

¡Aleluya! ¡Gloria a Dios! ¡Gloria al Señor! ¡Aleluya! --Miguel Arias, (c) Copyright, J. S. Paluch Co.
