The way I plan to set up the media center I will not have blind spots.
MediaMedia Center Center ImprovementsImprovementsClutter is a big issue in the media center. Space became a problem three years ago. The Reading Resource teachers had to move into the back room of the media center that used to house the guided reading selections, so they had to be moved to the floor. The storage closet is so full with TVs and media carts things have to be moved around every time you want to find something. Space is not such a problem this year, so I think I would talk to the administration about moving some of the big items so there would be more room and it would eliminate most of the clutter.

PoliciesPoliciesDOE•Square footage- We are not in compliance with the square footage of our media center. With a FTE number of 553 the square footage should be 3000 and our media center is approximately 1976. Even with the provision of 500 square feet for existing media centers we are not at the approval rate. With the media center located in the middle of the school there is no where to expand.•We are in compliance with the media program requirements. There is a media committee at the system and school level. There are policies and procedures for selecting materials, reconsideration of materials, gifts, using non-school owned materials, and complying with copyright law. There is a media specialist and a media clerk in the media center. There is a fixed, flexible schedule for media access and the media specialist works with classroom teachers to develop lessons that incorporate unit theme topics. The media committee does not operate exactly as listed in the Code IFBD section. There are no multi-year plans.
PoliciesPoliciesDOE continued•Personnel Required- Due to our FTE count we are required to have a full time media specialist. We have a media specialist and a media clerk in the media center.
GAC•I spoke with my media specialist and she reported that our school system does not follow the GAC guidelines anymore because they do not match SACS. We follow what is included in SACS. Although she did report that we do have 10 books per student.
SACS•Our media center does provide comprehensive information and media services that support the curricular and instructional programs. Our school district is SACS accredited.
