This guide takes you through the steps to install Maximo Transportation (hereafter referred to as Transportation) on a pre-configured Maximo 6 system.

NOTE The pre-configured Maximo 6 system must include Maximo 6, Patch 04 or higher, before you install Transportation.

This chapter describes what you must know before installing the application and briefly describes the functionality provided by the Transportation applications.

The Transportation CD contains 24 Actuate® reports. For more information about installing reports, refer to Chapter 3, “Installing the Actuate Encyclopedia” on page 3-1.

Installation Qualifications

Installing Transportation requires a system administrator with system administrator rights. To perform the installation, you must be familiar with the following technology:

PC installation tasks such as creating folders, editing files, and running scripts

Utilities such as Enterprise Manager or SQL*Plus for Oracle®

RDBMS system administration privileges

You can run the Transportation and Encyclopedia installations as either anX-Windows application or in console mode. For more information about running programs in X-Windows, refer to the “Setting up X-Windows” appendix in either of the following installation guides:

Transportation Overview

Transportation lets you manage your transportation- or fleet-related assets.

Transportation has many enhancements incorporated into the base Maximo product. These enhancements let you incorporate the following features into your daily use of Maximo:

entering and viewing meter readings from multiple applications

when appropriate, getting prompted to review relevant asset and item warranty information

using and tracking maintenance codes (such as component codes and position codes) that you associate with items and/or assets

generating and tracking warranty claims

tracking fuel and fluid consumption

using maintenance alerts to notify you of potential work orders and/or preventive maintenance to be done in conjunction with emergency repairs

Transportation provides capabilities for managing mobile assets in the following transportation-specific applications:

NOTE Transportation-specific application names contain “(Tr)”.
