This manual will help you with the installation and operation of MaxiLabel® Pro Ver 5.0 for K-Sun® printers, 2010-PC, Label Printer Pro Models: 2011XLB-PC and 2012XLST-PC, the Green Machine®-PC, PEARLabel®270, PEARLabel® 360 and PEARLabel® 400iXL.

This manual is based on your understanding the Windows®8, 8.1, 7, Vista, or XP (32 or 64 bit) operating system on your computer. Some advanced techniques may also require having Windows® Office 2007, 2010.

PaCKiNG warNiNGS Failure to follow these steps may result in serious injury or death. To avoid suffocation store the packaging that held the printer and instruction manual out of the reach of children or dispose of it.

aDaPTer warNiNGS Failure to follow these steps may result in serious injury or death. 1. Do not use any adapter other than the AC adapter included in your packaging. The result may be malfunction, overheating or smoke from your printer or adapter leading to fire or shocks. 2. Do not use a voltage other than the specified power supply voltage for the AC adapter. The result may be malfunction, overheating or smoke leading to fire or shocks. 3. Do not use the adapter cord to pull out the AC adapter from the wall or place a heavy object on the adapter or cord. This may lead to fire or smoke. 4. Do not touch plug with wet hands. The result may be malfunction, fire or shock may result.

PriNTer warNiNGS Failure to follow these steps may result in serious injury or death. 1. Do not handle the printer with wet hands. 2. In case of damage unplug the AC adapter from the socket. Do not continue to use the printer. 3. Do not spill beverages or spray insect repellant onto the printer. 4. Do not dismantle or reconfigure the device.

TaPe CUTTer CaUTiON Failure to follow these steps may result in injury. Keep your hands and fingers away from the tape eject slot while printing or while the auto-cutter function is in progress.

CD FOr iNSTaLLaTiON Or MaNUaL CaUTiON Failure to follow these steps may result in injury The included product disks are CD ROM and made for a PC. Do not insert them into an audio CD player. Otherwise a loud sound may be emitted resulting in injury or speaker damage.

TaPe and TaPe CarTriDGe CaUTiON 1. BEFORE applying the label verify the intended use, check the material of the adhesion surface and conduct an adhesion test in an area hidden from view. 2. It is difficult to adhere to certain surfaces such as polyvinyl chloride substance made with plasticizer. Adhesion will be compromised if installed on unclean, very rough, oily, dusty, wet or damp surface. 3. After installing a label, over a period of time there may be a change in label color, character fading, loss of adhesion strength, label removal rendered impossible, glue or ink remaining on the surface, or damage to the adhesion surface itself.

1. Turn on your computer and start up Windows®. Close all other applications including anti-virus software. 2. Insert the software CD-ROM into CD-ROM drive on your computer. 3. When the installation screen appears, choose install application and driver.

if you experience problems check here, otherwise continue to Step 4.

If the following message appears, an old version of the application or driver is installed and needs to be uninstalled before installing the new one.


This screen appears if:

PipeMarker™ V8 has been installed. Choose [Modify] to install MaxiLabel® Pro Ver 5.0.

OR

MaxiLabel® Pro Ver 5.0 has already been installed.

4. When the license agreement dialogue box appears, read and confirm the contents and click [agree]. To abort installation: Click [Disagree].

5. When the destination selection dialogue box appears, confirm the destination folder, and click [Next]. To change the destination folder: Click [browse…] then [Next]. Installation begins.

6. When the completion message appears, the installation is complete. Click [Finish]. For a desktop shortcut, turn on the check box.

There may be a slight pause while the printer driver install begins.

NOTE: If you have installed K-Sun® PipeMarker™ V8 and printers (PEARLabel® 400iXL and or PEARLabel® 360) and do not have any other K-Sun® printers you can cancel. The drivers for PEARLabel® 400iXL and PEARLabel® 360 printers work with both MaxiLabel® Pro Ver 5.0 and K-Sun® PipeMarker™ V8.

1. Use the drop down box to select your printer. For 2011XLB-PC and 2012XLST-PC users – choose LABEL PRINTER PRO model. Click [Next].

2. For 2010-PC, PEARLabel®270 and PEARLabel® 360 printers, plug in the adapter and USB – Follow the screen!

For LABEL PRINTER PRO and Green Machine® printers plug in the adapter and USB, turn your printer on and press the PC button.

For the PearLabel® 400iXL, plug in the adapter and USb and press the ON button.

Some windows® XP users may see [Found New Hardware] wizard screen.

During the installation [Found New Hardware wizard] may be displayed. In this case, select [No, not this time] for [Can windows connect to windows Update to search for software?] Then for [what do you want the wizard to do?], select [install the software automatically (recommended)].

3. Wait for the completion message. The installation is now complete. Click [Finish].

Note to Network administrators:

Printers can be connected to a PC using Windows® 8, 8.1, 7, Vista, XP that is part of a network and print from one common printer. However the following functions cannot be accepted from the client: 1. Acquiring the tape width when using MaxiLabel® Pro Ver 5.0. 2. Operating the printer property utility.

Note Reinstalling Drivers Windows® 8.1If you have bought a computer with Windows® 8 and installed MaxiLabel® Pro Ver 5.0 and printers and then upgraded to Windows® 8.1 you may have to install printer drivers again. Follow the instructions below.

1. Turn on your computer and start up Windows®. Close all other applications including anti-virus software. 2. Insert the software CD-ROM into CD-ROM drive on your computer. 3. Click [Modify].

4. Click [install driver only].




5. Use the drop down box to choose your printer. For 2011XLB-PC and 2012XLST-PC users – choose LABEL PRINTER PRO model. Click [Next].

6. For 2010-PC, PEARLabel®270 and PEARLabel® 360 printers, plug in the adapter and USB – Follow the screen!



For LABEL PRINTER PRO and Green Machine® printers, plug in the adapter and USB, turn your printer on and press the PC button.

For the 400iXL printer, plug in the adapter and USB and press the On button.





Some Windows® XP users may see [Found New Hardware] Wizard Screen:

Note to network administrators when connecting printers. More than one model can be connected to a PC but a driver is required for each model printer.

If connecting multiple same model printers to one PC, a driver is required for each unit. Installation will commence when connecting separate units for each printer driver, starting with the second driver. Newly installed printer drivers will be Copy [Number] of [Printer].

Uninstalling Software 1. Turn on your computer and start up Windows®. Close all other applications including anti-virus software. 2. Insert the software CD-ROM into CD-ROM drive on your computer. 3. When the installation program starts, click [remove].

4. Click [Yes]. Uninstallation begins.





5. Uninstalling MaxiLabel® Pro Ver 5.0 begins.

6. The uninstallation message appears. Click [Finish].



Uninstalling Printer 1. Click [Yes]. Uninstallation starts.

2. The uninstallation message appears. Select [all]. Select [remove]. If uninstalling only one printer Select [Printer] and Select [remove].

3. When the completion message appears, the uninstallation is complete. Click [Yes]. The computer reboots.

Note: You can also uninstall MaxiLabel® Pro Ver 5.0 and printer driver(s) as follows:Select “Control Panel” – “Programs and Features” and uninstall MaxiLabel® Pro Ver 5.0 and driver(s).

Power can be fed to printer by plugging the AC adapter included in the packaging into any common household socket (AC 120V). Use the recommended adapter.

Note: The printer contains a print head which marries the ribbon to the label or shrink tube surface. Using the wrong adapter can damage your print head and void the printer warranty.

TaPe CarTriDGeUsed in K-Sun® Printers 2010PC, 2011XLB-PC, 2012XLST-PC, GREEN MACHINE®-PC, PEARLabel® 270, PEARLabel® 360

1. Before placing a cartridge in printer, tighten the ink ribbon. Tighten the ribbon with a pencil to reduce slack and turn in direction of arrow.

2. Open the cover of your printer. Set the tape cartridge with the label up. Place the end of the tape through the tape path.

3. Feed and Cut the tape. *Feed only Glow-in-the-Dark, Fabric, Reflective and 210 Shrink Tube Tape.

On the menu bar choose [File] [Printer Settings] Utilities Tab.Depending on your tape cartridge click the correct icon and press OK.

4. Do not drop or dismantle the tape cartridge. 5. Do not pull or push on the tape while it is coming out of the tape eject slot. 6. Store the tape cartridge in a cool, dark area free from direct sunlight, high temperatures, high humidity and dust. 7. Use your tape cartridge as soon as it is opened.

TaPe and ribbON CarTriDGe for 400iXL

Install cartridges correctly to avoid damaging them or the top cover of your printer. 1. Turn the printer off, then pull the open lever and open top cover.

2. Turn the red gear on the cartridge to remove slack.

3. With Labels “Bottom 1” and “Top 2” facing you, push the Bottom 1 of the cartridge into the ribbon holder marker Bottom 1 and then snap the top of the cartridge into place. There will be a firm snap sound.

To remove, lift the securing hook and pull cartridge out.

4. Close the top cover and turn the printer back on. 5. Press to feed tape. (Feed tape whenever you have installed a tape cartridge to align cartridge correctly.)

New/Open - The Start-Up ScreenWhen you open MaxiLabel Pro Ver 5.0 the New/Open Start-up Screen appears. This is a convenient interface to the popular functions in the software.

Note: There are two sets of templates. One set is for use with PEARLabel® 400iXL printer. One set is for use with 2010-PC, 2011XLB-PC, 2012XLST-PC, GREEN MACHINE®-PC, PEARLabel® 270, or PEARLabel® 360. 7. Shortcut to Patch Panel, Equipment Management Bar Code Label formats, or QR Code Label Printing. 8. Open a file or view recent history 9. Don’t like this screen? Then check here to disable this screen. Note: Patch Panel and Equipment Management can only be accessed from this screen.

Double-click the shortcut icon on the desktop.

Start the program from the Start Menu. [all Programs] [MaxiLabel(®) Pro] [ MaxiLabel(r)Pro]

At the New/Open Screen

1. Select your printer. 2. Confirm your tape width by clicking on the “Get Tape width” Button . 3. Click [OK].

The default setting of the software is the largest text size for tape in printer with horizontal, auto center. To change these Preference Settings see pages 106-111. For this example we will work with the defaults.

1. At the flashing cursor type TEST. Click on the label for handles (green dots) to appear around the text.

2. Press Print or from Menu Bar select [File] [Print].

The print screen appears.

The default path for files is C: Program Files, MaxiLabel (R) Pro 5.0 , Data. The file extension will be .ksl

Note: Files created in previous versions of MaxiLabel® Ver. 2.0 .epd files, MaxiLabel® Pro Ver 2.0 and 3.0 files .epn will open automatically as .ksl files in their previous Program, Data files. MaxiLabel® Pro Ver 4.0 and Ver 5.0 files are .ksl files. Note: Once MaxiLabel® Pro Ver 4.0 files are opened in MaxiLabel® Pro Ver 5.0 they cannot revert, to be opened in MaxiLabel® Pro Ver 4.0.



TemPlaTes - Pre-desIGned


Templates

Templates are designed to help the user create useful labels and signs. The software contains 3 types of templates in different locations:

The Pre-Designed Templates is found from the New/Open Screen or on the Menu Bar by choosing: [File] [Templates].

The Patch Panel Template, Equipment Management Templates and QR Code Designer Template are found on the New/Open Screen.

The Word and Excel Templates are installed during software installation. These templates can be found C > Program Files > MaxiLabel Pro (R) > data > TEMPLATE See Using Excel and Word Templates for variable length printing on pages 39-43.

Pre-Designed Templates. Over 1100 pre-designed templates are available in two sets based on printer selected. If you select printers: 2010PC, LABEL PRINTER PRO (2011XLB-PC or 2012XLST-PC), GREEN MACHINE®-PC or PEARLabel® 270 or PEARLabel® 360 you will have one set of templates to use.

If you select the PEARLabel® 400iXL there is another set of templates.

Note: Templates for the PEARLabel® 360 -36mm size and for the PEARLabel® 400iXL are only available IF the printers are installed.

When viewing the templates use the arrows on side of screen or at bottom to toggle thru the pages.

Any selected template can be printed as presented or edited and then printed. Templates that are edited can be saved in Data Folder.

Use the Star to add to Favorite Category or Magnifying Glass to enlarge.




Labels will be printed in the colors (tape and ribbon) that are in printer. The screen colors are guidelines. See Tape Control Panel, Print Paste Printing Multiply to learn how to print multiple color sections on pages 47-54.

Templates - Short Cut - Patch Panel

Select your printer and tape width and click on the Patch Panel Short Cut. Click [OK]. Tape widths will be available based on your printer selection.

Choose Tape Width ½”. Leave margins at default 0.12.

Select Number of Ports: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 16, 20 (For our example choose 8).

Select Port Length: in inches (For our example choose .5).

Leave Number Pattern at Numeric Sequence.

For this example we started Initial Value at 145. Use preview or click OK to see screen to review.

Templates - Short Cut - equipment Management

Select your printer and tape width and click on the Equipment Management Short Cut. Click [OK]. Tape widths will be available based on your printer selection. Use the scroll bar on the right to review selections. Highlight and Click [OK].



A Data Entry screen appears.

Enter data as needed.




A Data Creation Screen appears. Save file for recall.

(See Importing Data pages 89-95 for more information about importing and printing only selected labels.)



TemPlaTes -sHorTcUT - qr code

Templates - Short Cut - Qr Code

QR Codes can be created directly from the Template – Short Cut – QR Code or the Tool Bar Icon . QR codes can be created to print solo or added with text, images, symbols to a label.

QR Codes can also be found under the Bar Code Icon or from the Menu Bar [File] [insert] [barcode].

Select your printer and tape width and click the QR Short Cut and click [OK]. The QR Bar Code Generator Screen appears. Note there are three tabs.




Type web address or other information in the Code Box.

Click [OK].



Note: QR codes are not adjustable by using the handles (green dots) to adjust change either the symbol size or tape size.With green dots highlighting the bar code, right click, [Properties]. On the settings tab, choose symbol size in the symbol size drop down box. Choose from Minimal, Small, Medium or Large.

Templates - word & excel

MaxiLabel® Pro Ver 5.0 has Word and Excel templates available enabling the user to create text easily with the appropriate format, margins and paper width settings. These templates are especially useful for variable length labels.

Templates can be found C > Program Files > MaxiLabel Pro 5.0 > data > TEMPLATE

Your printer will be displayed. Open the folder for your printer. LABEL PRINTER PRO (2011XLB-PC or 2012XLST-PC) LS2010 (2010-PC)

These are the Excel® Template Files in the PEARLabel™ 360. These are the Word Template Files in the PEARLabel™ 360.



Copy the Excel® and or Word templates into the user template folder in Excel® or Word. (This will vary based on your version of Excel or Word. Check your software documentation for location of folder.) Copy from C:\Program Files\MaxiLabel(R)Pro\data\TEMPLATE\Printer ChoiceExcel or Word

Once you have copied the files to the correct location use the Templates in Excel® or Word.

Set your K-Sun® Printer as the default printer.

Launch Excel® and select [File] [New]. Click on [New from Template]. Now select the printer but do notprint but return to the screen. Dashed lines will indicate the width of the label. This example is 36mm.

A very good example of using Word Templates is with the Translate capabilities of Word Office 7 and 10.

Open Word. Select [File] [New]. Click on [New from Templates].

The screen will look like this.

Type the word or words you need translated. For this example: Wash Hands Before Returning to Work.

Now return until a second label appears. Put you cursor at the beginning of the second label. Choose the Find Translate menu.

If translated choose insert. You can highlight the text, make bolder, bigger. Although the view is a long label it will only print the length needed.

Before printing you can delete the first label. Now print.

Note: K-Sun® and Microsoft® offer no absolute guarantee on translation.

The New/Open screen also provides a convenient way to open previously created files.Click on the Open File Button.

Files stored in the Data File for MaxiLabel® Pro 5.0 will be available for selection to print or edit.

The Tape Control Panel consists of 6 sections.

These choices are also on the New/Open Screen but because you can disable this screen at start up they are also available on the Tape Control Panel. If you change tape sizes or printers during label design you can verify or change settings here.

Print-Paste Multiply is a powerful tool. This tool allows the user to create larger labels with more information and the ability to print these labels in multiple color combinations for better communication.

The default setting is Auto. Auto: The tape length is automatically adjusted as text or graphics are entered. Manual: You can specify the length within a range of 10mm (0.4”) to 2300mm (90.55”) –by directly entering the number in the text box or by clicking on the arrows.

MaxiLabel® Pro Ver 5.0 features margin setting capability. The user can set margins down to 1mm (0.04 inches) and up to 500mm (19.68 inches). On the first label the printer will still cut a small leading piece off because it needs to advance to the cutter blade.

But for multiple labels in a series, one can set margin down to 0.04 inch before and after label text. This tape saver feature is very effective when making multiple labels on tape or shrink tube. Depending on margins and cut settings the print may not auto cut but instead provide indication mark “:” for manual cutting.

Borderless Printing is available only with 400iXL. Use this function when using Print Paste (PP), Print Paste Multiply (PPM) – see pages 47-54.

The default setting is: g Horizontal. Label appears horizontal, text is written horizontally. iVertical tape appears vertical, text is written vertical. To write characters vertically click on Aq located on the Text Tool Bar while the handle is shown or select [Text] [Vertical Text] from the Menu Bar. See Page 22.

Format is available for all PC based printers except the 400iXL.

Print-Paste Printing (Multiply) is a powerful tool that allows the user to create larger labels in sections, print multiple colored labels or multiple labels in different print orders or print ranges.

When using the PEARLabel® 400iXL there are 4 sections available. When using the K-Sun® printers, 2010-PC, LABEL PRINTER PRO models 2011XLB-PC and 2012XLST-PC, GREEN MACHINE®-PC or PEARLabel® 270 or PEARLabel® 360 up to 8 sections are available.

Using Print-Paste Printing (Multiply) with 400iXL & borderless Printing

To learn how to use this feature, open Templates, environment Category and select the “Do Not Play On this Equipment.” Note Print Paste is set on 4. Borderless printing is checked.

This label has been created in four sections. To print the label:

Choose [File],[Print] or the Print Icon. The Print screen appears



Note: Set Print Range.For this particular label we want to print sections 1 and 2 on Black on Yellow, Section 3, Black on White and Section 4 White on Green. In the 400iXL load 4” Black Ribbon and 4” Yellow Tape cartridge. [Click] [Set Print range]. The color is removed from the four sections.

Now [Click] on the sections 1 & 2 to Set the Print Range.

Click [OK].

The first two sections of the label print. Change Supply tape to white. Then from the Menu Bar choose [File], [Print] or Print Icon. Set the Print Range to section 3.

Click [OK].

Change Ribbon to White and Supply Tape to Green. Then choose [File] [Print] or the Print Icon. Set the Print Range to section 4.

Click [OK].

Now you have 4 sections of label that can easily be placed together.

Print-Paste Printing (Multiply) – printing data sets

For use with K-Sun® printers, 2010-PC, LABEL PRINTER PRO models 2011XLB-PC and 2012XLST-PC, GREEN MACHINE®-PC or PEARLabel® 270, PEARLabel® 360, or PEARLabel® 400iXL.

Example: When importing data and user needs three of each label in column A and three of each label Column E and Column F.

Example would print: A045, A045, A045, 1212, 1212, 1212, A2E4, A2E4, A2E4 then A046, A046, A046, 1213, 1213, 1213, A2E4, A2E4, A2E4 and so on.....

First set Print-Paste Printing (Multiply) to 3 and move column heading to label (see importing instructions).For a large spread sheet such as this one, indicate the labels desired by clicking in the selection box. A green check mark will appear. This will also keep from printing labels not needed.



Then chose [File] [Print] or the Print Icon.Set copies to 3. Mark Print data checked in Data Creation Window (Green Check Mark). Remove the check mark in Print-Paste Printing on Print Order. The Printer Order will switch from 1, 2, 3 to 1/1, 2/2, 3/3.

Click [OK].

Note: When printing data files it is suggested to turn on Print Preview to review results before actually printing.

To turn Print Preview on, choose Printer Settings, Options Tab, View-Settings – check Print Preview box.



Print-Paste Printing (Multiply) – printing multiple sets

Select Copies. Mark Print data checked in Data Creation Window (Green Check Mark). Choose Print-Paste Printing Print Order. Set Print Range for 1 and 2.

Shrink Tube Text Optimizer – For PEARLabel® 400iXL only.

When printing on larger shrink tube use the optimizer to gain the best spacing and tape placement for shrinking.

The icon only appears after you have entered text. (make sure the handles are around the text).



The HST (Heat Shrink Tube) Screen appears.

Enter the diameter of the wire. From .5 to 1.25 inch.For .75 inch diameter this is the result. The actual shrink tube length is reduced from 6.28 inch to 5.22 inch. This tube will be very legible and easy to read.

Auto Size Text box resizes the text box automatically to fit the number of characters.Fixed Size Text box adjusts automatically the font size to fit inside the text box.

FONT ViewMaxiLabel® Pro Ver 5.0 now has font view to help you choose the most effective font for your message. Before selecting a font a graphic preview appears illustrating the font.

You can type your text and as you select from fonts available on your computer you can watch the text change. This will help you create an effective design

Reverse/Invert Text

To use highlight text and click on Reverse button. Use this to create unique letter, background text. This is an effective tool for creating clear letters (using clear tape) for display boards. White text on a dark background is easier to see in low light conditions. It also draws attention to Titles, Headings, and Subheadings.


VIew

From the Menu Bar choose [View]. Use view settings to aid in label design.

Zoom - Choose display of label from as small as 25% to 600%. Use the larger percentage when working with detailed design.

refresh – Refreshes the display of the layout being edited, keeping the same zoom level.

Show ruler – Places a ruler around the workspace.

Grid – View – Places a grid on the label workspace

From the Menu bar choose [insert]. This section covers inserting additional elements to your label to communicate effectively.

inserting image Files

Click on image icon or on the Menu Bar [insert] [image].

Find the image, logo or graphic on your computer that you want to add to your label. Formats you can add to your label .bmp, .wmf, .emf, .pcd, .jpg, or .tif. Note: An image is automatically converted to black and white binary image.

This example shows adding the K-Sun® logo to a label.

After you find the image or logo to add to your label. Click [Open].

The cursor will hold the image until you drag it to the label.

Once inside (or close) to your label, left-click and your image will appear on the label.

Use the handles to adjust the size and position.

Double click on the image to display the Image Menu.There are four tabs: Border, Trim, Adjust Image, Position

border allows you to place a border around your image and specify a border width.You do not need to add a border to your image.

Trim allows you to take 20 shapes and place your image in this shape for a unique effect. Available shapes are No Border, Ellipse, Diamond, Star, Triangle, Rectangle, Pentagon, Hexagon, Heart, Fan, Rounded Rectangle, Explosion, Club, Spade, Cherry, Leaf, Drop, Cloud, Moon, Star 2.

Click on the shape and then move the handles to desired location on the image. Click OK.You do not need to add a trim effect to your image.


InserT

adjust Image allows you to adjust your image for better white/black presentation.

Choose approximation and then move the Threshold value for clearer image. Dithering is analogous to halftone printing. Dithered images, particularly those with relatively few colors, can often be distinguished by a characteristic graininess, or speckled appearance.error diffusion is used to convert a multi-level image into a binary image.

Position allows you to place the image in a specific location on the label.

insert Symbols

Your software includes 1092 symbols arranged alphabetically in the following categories:

abbreviation, aNSi, arrows, electrical, environment, exit, Facility, Fire, GHS iSO wHMiS, iMO (international Maritime), Lab, Office, PPe (Personal Protection equipment), recreation, retail, Shipping, Signal words, Target Organs, Transportation.

To insert a symbol on your label choose the Symbol icon or on the File Menu choose [insert] [Symbol].

The Main Symbol screen will appear with category tabs. Use the arrows on the right hand of the screen to scroll through all the categories.

Scroll thru the categories and click on the desired symbol. Click [OK].

Align the cursor on your label and click. Use the handles on the symbol to adjust placement.

You can add additional symbols, more text or data to your label. Use copy, paste to duplicate the symbol.

GHS Symbol requirements are: White background, Black symbol - pictogram, with Red diamond frame around symbol.

MaxiLabel® Pro Ver 5.0 allows for accurate creation and printing of the symbol.

Choose [insert] [Symbol] or the symbol icon . Go to the GHS ISO WHMIS tab.

Choose your symbol and place on label.

Now choose the GHS/ISO Border Icon and the Select Diamond or Prohibition Symbol appears. Highlight the Diamond and click [OK].

The diamond appears as a square dotted line. Pull to the label matching the corners of the square to the corners of the symbol. Release the mouse and the red triangle will appear. Adjust or move the triangle if needed.

Recommended Supply: Black on White or Black on Silver Matte. Test other color combinations with your barcode reader.

To use the software to enter a bar code, click on bar code icon or on the Menu Bar [insert] [barcode].

1. Select the bar code type.

2. Enter the code.

3. Configure other settings. These settings can be adjusted.

4. Click [OK].

5. The software will automatically create margins to the right and left of the barcode for barcode readers. Click [OK].

6. The cursor becomes the barcode height. Use and adjust the blank box to the label and left click.

7. The barcode appears on the label. You can adjust the size and position with the scaling handles or right click and choose properties to return to the bar code entry screen.

Click on bar code icon or . On the Menu Bar [insert] [barcode]. Choose QR Code.

Enter your URL or cut and paste your URL in the code block.

The software provides for four symbol sizes of QR code: Minimal, Small, Medium, Large. These sizes are fixed and may not always adjust to the size needed.

A workaround for the QR code size issue: Go to a QR code generating website, create your 2D barcode, snip a picture of it, then import it into your label window in MaxiLabel® Pro Ver 5.0. Depending on the DPI of the printer you can alter the size fairly easily and it won’t affect the readability of the QR code.

Note: Bar code readers require some space to the left or the right of the barcode for reading. The software will leave the required space for readability. Test the created barcode with a barcode reader.

If you have data in an Excel sheet you can import into the software to print barcodes and additional data. See pages 39-43For a preset format for equipment labeling, see the New/Open screen: Equipment Management

The result will be 4 barcodes with 1234, 1235, 1236, 1237.

Expanding this example. Highlight the last 2 digits from 1234 34. On the Alphanumeric Screen make the initial value 34.On the print screen set copies to 10 and check Paginate with Alphanumeric Sequence. The result will be:

1234,1235,1236,1237,1238,1239,1240,1241,1242,1243

To create labels that would read with barcode: 1234,1234 – 1235,1235 – 1236,1236 – 1237,1237

On the Alphanumeric Sequence screen change Repetition to 2. Then Change on the Print screen Copies to 8.

Click on the Border Icon or from the Menu Bar [insert] [border]. MaxiLabel® Pro Ver 5.0 has 86 borders.

Use the scroll bar on the right until you find the desired border. Click on the border. Click [OK].

Change the size and position of the border to the desired size by clicking on the handles.


InserT Table

TabLe

Tables are used to present a large amount of data in an easy to read, consistent format. Tables are often used with asset/equipment management labels and the import data function.

Choose [insert] [Table] or from Edit Toolbar select . The Table Gridline screen appears.Determine Lines (Rows) and Columns. (For both selections up to 20 maximum). Gridlines along with borders can be changed by clicking on the arrow in the drop-down list box and adjusting the width. (The vertical and horizontal guidelines width can be set to between 0.012 – 0.197 in. and Border width can be set 0.020 – 0.197 in.) Highlight the desired Table Type and then Click OK.

The table appears on the label.

To adjust the lines hover with mouse on line until double arrow appears. Now pull the line to the left or right, up or down until the desired format is reached. Or Right Click and choose Edit Gridlines. Highlight the gridline to move.

It is possible to change the gridlines (along with other settings ) with a right click on the table and choosing properties. Along with the Table Gridline screen, these tabs appear to edit text, decoration, shadow, gradation, spacing, position.


It is also possible to import images, symbols to the table and set the tape length to a specific size.

Import data to the table. See Importing Data pages 89-95.

InserT alPHanUmerIc seqUence

alphanumeric SequenceFrom the Menu Bar select [insert] [alphanumeric Sequence].It is possible to sequence up to 4 items at one time.

1. enter text or numbers. Use “#” for placement of number or letter for sequence location.

Specify the number of digits in the sequence. Maximum 9 digits can be used for #. You cannot enter symbols, illustrations.

2. Choose Numerals or alphabetical Value.

For Alphabetical Value do not mix upper and lower case text.

3. enter the first number or alphabet letter of the sequence.



4. Specify in numbers how many times the same numeric or alphabet character is repeated until increment occurs.

5. Specify the increment added for every printout for up to 5 digits in numbers.Negative values and decimal points can be specified. (For example, enter “1” as the increment to have the sequence increase 1 at a time (1,2,3, etc.) Enter -2 for a sequence that decreases by 2 1,-1,-3,-5, etc.

6. The maximum or minimum value of an alphanumeric sequence can be specified.

7. Text. Specify Font, Size, Text Position and Style.

Example:Note: Add Spaces after # to separate values on label.

To Print:We would recommend turning on print preview. Printer Settings, Options Tab, Check Print Preview. Click OK.

Then Check the Paginate with Alphanumeric Sequence and choose the number of copies.

inserting Date and Time

Date and time can be inserted in a label. In addition the date and or time can be set to appear when files are opened and printed. Note: the software uses the date and time set on the PC.

From the Menu Bar select [insert] [Date and Time].

1. The screen will default to the current date. You can change the date and/or time as needed.

2. Select the update method.

3. Use the Text, Decoration, Shadow, Gradation and Spacing Tabs to enhance the appearance.

4. Click OK. Use the handles to size as needed.

Here is a label with date and time added, with bar code, and symbol added as well as text.

insert background Pattern

Background pattern is a great way to add visual impact to your label and possible security identification. You can select from a preset pattern, use text or create a pattern.

From the Menu Bar select [insert] [background Pattern].

For Preset Pattern backgroundClick on the pre-designed background pattern. Click [OK]. Then type your text over the background.

For Text backgroundSelect [Text background Pattern].Enter Text, Choose Font, Style and Size. Click [OK]. Then type your text over the background.

Create a Pattern

Select [Original background Pattern].

Click [New]. Use the provided tools and draw a pattern in the drawing area. Select a drawing color and a tool and mark out the dots in the area. Click OK. The pattern you have created is saved in the original pattern list.

Select the background pattern to apply and Click [Small]or [Large]. Then type your text over the background.

Note original background patterns are not saved. Save File with original background pattern and recall as needed. Image, Symbols and other objects will block the background pattern.

For professional text enhancement… fonts and text design on a label matter! Design communicates the message. Use Text Art for more emphasis… label with attitude and imagination.

From the Menu Bar [insert] [Text art].

There are three tabs: Text, Shape, Decoration. Select the tabs as needed.

Enter your text and select font, size, style and alignment if needed.

Use the preview screen to check the results.

Select the Shape Tab and choose a shape.

importing Data

One of the most powerful tools in the software is the ability to create data in the software for continuous recall or importing existing data and then the ability to pick and choose what information is needed on a label.

Both of these functions are particularly useful for labeling wires and cables.

For existing data, supported file format extensions include: .xls, .xlsx, .txt, .csv. When using data files .xls or .xlsx, Microsoft® Excel should be installed on the computer.

Dates and currency formats specified in Excel cannot be read.

To create the data

On the main tool bar choose import Frame or on the Menu Bar [File][import Data] [Load] or [insert] [import Frame]

at this prompt choose [Yes].

At the Import prompt choose [New import Data].

Enter text in the data creation window by clicking on the cell to highlight it. But enter text on the entry bar, not in the cell. Data will appear in cell.

Note when you select a cell and right-click it you can Cut, Copy, Paste, Delete, Import Frame, Enter Column Title, Sort, and Print Check.

To load or import data

To save time recreating data it is possible to import a worksheet into the software.For existing data supported file format extensions include: .xls, .xlsx, .txt, .csv. When using data files .xls or .xlsx, Microsoft® Excel should be installed on the computer.

NOTE: Make a copy of the existing file and then save and use the copy. Make sure the tab on your file is named correctly. Add column names for clarity. For columns that you may want both as bar code and text, duplicate the column. If you are adding pictures to your label, import the path once the spreadsheet is imported. recommendation: Create a small excel or .csv file and import into the software for practice.

at the prompt choose Yes.

at the import prompt, choose Load import Data.

Locate the file you need to import on the computer. Highlight and click [Open].

Note there is one minor, but important difference between importing comma separated file versus an Excel file. Comma separated files do not need to have a header row to be imported properly. Excel files require a header row.

You will see “Select Sheet” if you select an Excel file. Choose a sheet then select [OK]. For .csv files the data will automatically populate the screen.

Designing the Label with Created or imported data

Drag and drop the T on the attribute column to the label in the layout edit window. Choose only the columns you need.

Right click on the T to change the column attributes from Text to Bar Code.

To enter images on your label you need to specify the path where they reside.

The content of the column is displayed on the label. Adjust the position and size as necessary. You can bring over more than one column to a label and you can rotate the data.

Note: No matter how many characters are in a cell, the import size frame is fixed. If the characters are too many for the import frame, they are automatically fitted to the size. See pages 39-43 for how to use Excel templates if you need your label length to be variable.

For this example we will choose Microsoft® Equation.

The selected application appears on the layout editing screen of the special editor software.

Type your equation and edit.



You can subscript or add other symbols to your equation as needed.

Now in Equation Editor choose [File] [Update]. Close the Equation Editor.

3. The formula appears in the gray workspace of the software program.

4. Drag the equation with the handles to the label and size. Add other text, symbols or graphics as needed. Save and print.




Create Labels with Other applications - Create From File 1. Select [insert] [Create and Paste Objects]. 2. Highlight the program. For this example we will choose Adobe Acrobat Document. Note: Choose the program first.

3. Click on [Create from File].

4. Click on [browse] specify the file to be read and click on [Open]. If there are no files appearing on the Browse screen, click either p or q to display the desired file.

5. Click on [OK]. The data from the file selected on the special editor’s layout editing screen is pasted.



6. Set the size and position. Use the handles to size and position. Here the PDF image is placed on the label.

Other notes when creating labels with other applications.

Place a checkmark in [link] on the [insert object] screen to link to the original file. Changes in the content of the original reference file are also reflected in the linked, read object. Conversely, when changing the content of the read object, the changes are also reflected in the original reference file. Refer to your Windows® operation manual or the help screen for details concerning the link function.

Place a checkmark in the display as icon to display only the icon without showing the content of the file on the screen. Also, when printing, the icon is printed. This is used when printing the icon list.

Color objects read by the special editor and printed, appear in black and white shading. Dark colors are printed dark gray and light colors are printed light gray.


InserTInG eUro/laTIn lanGUaGe and cHaracTer seTs


inserting euro/Latin Language and Character Sets

MaxiLabel® Pro Ver 5.0 has the ability to add Euro Latin characters as well as characters and symbols found in Character Set 1252. A reference guide to these character sets is on the next two pages. Character sets are entered by using your ALT key and numeric keypad. Use of the character sets does require knowledge of the language needed for the label. Characters sets are also helpful in entering fractions such as ½, 1/4 or mathematical symbols. For creating equations refer to pages 96-97.

Here is an example of a label made using Google Translate: English and German

To create ä and ü simply use the ALT key and numeric keypad. To create the ä, use Alt+132 and for the ü, use Alt+129.

Vertical Printing -

One Line

A common use for vertical printing is labeling binders or notebooks.

Open MaxiLabel® Pro Ver 5.0 and choose a horizontal label. Now type your text in the workspace using a return after each letter.

Now on the Menu Bar choose [Layout] [rotate][Counterclockwise 90 degrees]

The text has rotated. Now drag the text to the label.

Note your tape length and the look of the label. To center the text chose the center bar and use font size and other effects to make a more outstanding label by right clicking on the text and choosing [Properties]. Use the manual line spacing to change the space between the letters.

Vertical Printing - adding additional text

Wire wraps, some cable labels and other applications require adding more than one line of vertical text. Choose the vertical text icon on the Text Toolbar.

The cursor moves. Now being typing your text.

Adjust spacing between letters, lines, add text effects such as bold or use [Layout] [rotate] to change direction.

From the Menu Bar, choose [File] [Layout].

Each element added to your label including text, symbols, and graphics becomes a block. Here are some software features to help you align blocks and graphics.

Preferences SettingsFor Preference Settings when using MaxiLabel® Pro Ver 5.0, choose [Settings] [Preferences] from the menu bar.

This manual will cover some of the choices. Users should choose preferences that aid in better workflow, screen view and design. Remember preferences take effect on the next label… so make your choices, close your label and re-open to see the change(s).

Display Tab

Change Unit from inches to mm here.

Change Tape Image colors to help visualize label design.

Use Revert to Defaults to return to the default settings that came with the software.

Printing Tab

Check the Alphanumeric Sequence box if always creating labels with alphanumeric sequence.

Check Data Importing, Print data check in the data window if always creating labels from data import and then selecting records. This will help print only the labels you need.



Other Tab

The default when you open your software is the cursor on the label.

If you would prefer to work in the workspace and drag to the label, choose Switch to Text Editing Status in creating a new layout.

Undo history default setting is at 4. Change up to 99.

Text

You can set a preferred font here. The default is Arial. For instance if you are always printing shrink tube your preference might be Arial Black. If you have a designated company font that is used, you might want to choose that font.




Font Size

The default size is set for largest print, one line. If you create address labels or labels with many lines of text you will want to changes these settings. How to change Tape width and or Size Settings: 1. Highlight the Tape Width.2. At the Size button change to desired size.3. Press Settings. Then Click [OK[.The default size will change on the next label.

Note: When changing font preferences, first make sure you have the correct printer selected on either the New/Open screen or the Tape Control Panel.



Decoration

These decoration choices are always available when designing text. Unless you have a specific label always created with these effects, do not change the decoration defaults.

Shadow

These shadow choices are always available when designing text. Unless you have a specific label always created with these effects, do not change the shadow defaults.

Gradation

These gradation choices are always available when designing text. Unless you have a specific label always created with these effects, do not change the gradation defaults.




Spacing

While Spacing choices are always available when entering text, if you use the software for creating address labels or lots of information in a small space then you can adjust here so that you do not need to adjust every label. For example adjust line spacing to manual -20:

If you use lines often in creating your labels and have a preferred width or type or always use an arrow with the line, change preference here.

Fill

These fill choices are always available when designing text. Unless you have a specific label always created with these effects, do not change the fill defaults.



Shape

These shape tool choices are always available when using the shape tools. Unless you use a specific shape when creating labels do not change the shape defaults.

As you learn to use the software feel free to change preferences. Remember you can always revert to the defaults by choosing Revert to Defaults.

Printer Settings – Paper TabChoose [File] [Printer Settings].Printer Settings consist of 4 tabs. Paper, Graphics, Options and Utilities.Paper Tab - Sets the tape used for printing.

Tape width Selects the tape width. Click on [Get Tape width] to read the width of the tape set in the printer.Orientation Selects the orientation of the label.Mirror Print Reverses the image printing. Default is No.

Version Shows printer driver’s version information.Default Returns all items to their original installation settings.

Graphics Tab - Sets the resolution and tone when printing.

resolution Shows the print resolution. Different K-Sun® printers have different resolution. Options TabAlong with margin settings you can choose to cut or not cut after each label or after the print job. This is found on the Printer Settings Tab Options. These choices are handy for multiple label printing when deciding to keep the labels together or to cut immediately.

The PEARLabel® 360 also gives you the option of adding half cut to aid in removing tape from the liner.

For the PEARLabel® 360 you can turn off half cut.

When working with shrink tube, glow-in-the-dark, reflective and fabric tapes, you will want to turn off the half cut on the PEARLabel® 360.

View Settings

Display tape width confirmation message. When printing, a tape width confirmation window appears. A user can turn off this message on the screen by checking the Don’t display this message box. To turn it back on, go to the Printer Settings, Options Tab, and check the Display tape width confirmation message.

Print Preview

When designing and printing complex labels or a series of labels that use several inches or feet of tape, turn print preview on. Print Preview allows you to view each label to confirm contents and appearance before printing. To view labels on a series, click the white on green arrow icon. To print, click on the Blue printer icon or to stop printing, click on the red/white X.

Utilities Tab - Tape feed and cut or Feed only can be executed from the PC.

Feed and Cut Feeds then cuts the tape; about .7” or 17mm.

*Use this setting when using Glow-in-the-Dark, Reflective, Fabric, Permanent Aggressive Adhesive, Magnet, Silver Matte and 210 Shrink Tube Supplies.

Confirm your printer here. Choose Printer Settings to change how to cut settings or to increase concentration for printing shrink tube. See Printer Setting Tabs page 112.

Change the Copies when printing two or more identical labels.

Data importing specifies the conditions for data flow printing. Check Successive import when importing data or creating data table.Print with all data. All lines on the data creation screen will be printed.Print data checked in Data Creation window. Only the records indicated by check mark on the data creation screen will be printed.




Print-Paste Printing-Multiply (requires 2 or more copies) When printing more than one copy of the label, a checkmark in print order (1,2,3…) will result in complete range being printed and then repeated. If there is no checkmark in print order, the result with be print range 1 printed – number of copies specified, range 2 printed number of copies specified and so forth. Check Set Print range if only part of the label is needed. Highlighted green range areas will print.

Print-Paste Printing-Multiply (requires 2 or more copies) When needing to print the same label multiple times, remove the check mark in Print Order. The first label will print based on copies and then the second label and so on. Check Set Print range if only part of the label is needed. Highlighted green range areas will print.

When printing one copy of the multiple label design, place a check mark in Set Print range and turn off the areas of label that will NOT be printed on the color of tape in your printer. The highlighted green range will print, the gray range will not print.

Then change your cartridge color and reset the print range for the second tape.

Printing on Various Media

Printing Heat Shrink Tube

If the text on shrink tube is printing light:

1. Choose a denser font – for instance arial black instead of Arial. 2. When printing, choose [Printer Settings] [Graphics] Tab and set the concentration higher. Set the print concentration to +1, +2, +3.

3. When using the 400iXL use the shrink tube optimizer (see pages 57-58) to adjust text for optimal shrinking results.



How to Shrink Heat Tube

1. Print the tube and slide onto the wire.

NOTE: For industrial use heat gun, refer to its instruction manual for proper use.

Printing Glow-in-the-Dark, reflective, Fabric, Magnetic, Permanent aggressive, and 210 Shrink Tube Tapes

These choices are handy for multiple label printing where you may want the labels to stay together and be cut on a job site or be cut for immediate labeling.

1. Make sure to set your printer driver to Don’t Cut. See Page 113.

After printing, feed the tape. Then manually remove the tape from the printer and use scissors to cut the tape. Make sure to leave a 3mm tip of tape protruding from the tape eject slot.

Reflective tapes contain hard beads which collect the light and reflect the tape background. When printing reflective tape set the print concentration to +3 because of rough tape surface.

2. Direct hot air from an industrial-use heat gun onto the entire surface of the tube, shrinking it to the wire.




Printing Self-Lamination wire wrap

Self-Lamination OVerwraP label tape for wire and cable comes in two sizes, 1” and 1 ½”. The 1” can be used in K-Sun® PC printers (2010PC, 2011XLB-PC, 2012XLST-PC, GREEN MACHINE®-PC, PEARLabel® 270, and PEARLabel® 360. The 1 ½” can only be used in the PEARLabel® 360 printer. Print in the white part, lay it visibly on the wire and then wrap the clear “overwrap” around the wire (like a band-aid).

On the Tape Control Panel choose Tape width and select for 224SL- 24mm (1”)(for cable) and for 236SL- 36mm (1-1/2”)(for cable).

Create your text in the red box on the screen layout to be sure that you will print in the white space on the label.

Printing Flag – Two Sides-index-File Folder Tape

Flag tape is for indexes, file folders… anywhere having two sides of information is important. Available in two sizes, 1” and 1 ½”. The 1” can be used in all K-Sun® PC printers. The 1 ½” can only be used in the PEARLabel® 360 printer.

On the Tape Control Panel choose Tape width and select for 224TBW – 24mm (1”)(for flag) and for 236TBW – 36mm (1-1/2”)(for flag).

Note: Use the wizards with import data but manual rotation will be needed for one side of the data before printing.

The PEARLabel® 400iXL features borderless printing making it possible to create one label with borderless printing or multiple labels that can easily be combined to make a sign.

One Label borderless Printing (K-Tape 1”, 2”, 4”)

Select the PEARLabel® 400iXL, Tape Width, keep Print Paste Printing (Multiply) at 1, then set margins and Check Borderless Printing.

Insert symbol, image or text as desired. Example:

Two to Four Label borderless Printing (K-Tape 1”, 2”, 4”)

Create a multi-part label or spread a graphic, symbol across a label that can easily be assembled to create a large banner, sign or label. The PEARLabel® 400iXL creates a multi-part label up to 4 sections (1”, 2”, 4”) and each section up to 90” in length. Many templates for the PEARLabel® 400iXL are designed using the Print-Paste Multiply (Printing), Borderless Printing technique.

To create this label:

Open MaxiLabel® Pro Ver 5.0 and choose 50mm tape, set Print-Paste at 1*, set margins at 0.4 and check borderless printing. *Setting the Print-Paste at 1 allows for importing smaller graphics which are easier to use.

Basic screen set up will appear like this:

Choose [insert][Symbols] [Facility] [No Faucet]. Click [OK]. Either insert the symbol twice or use copy/paste to create two symbols.

Choose the Text icon. Type in gray workspace: THIS PROPERTY [return] USES RECLAIMED WATER. Format the text by Right Click on the text and choose Properties.Under Text Settings make the Text Tall, Bold. On the spacing tab, set line spacing Manual to -10. Click [OK].

borderless Design – One graphic across many sections.

It is very easy to create a large sign with symbols. Choose the number of sections 1-4. For this example: 4 Sections (borderless printing is automatically turned on) [insert] [Symbols] [Facility] [Do Not enter]. This illustration shows the symbol on 4 sections.

After printing easily match the sections to create a larger, more visible sign.

Print From Other applications

It is possible to print direct from some applications such as Word and Excel®.

Please be aware of the following constraints:

Proper printing may be impossible depending on the application.

Install the template files in Microsoft® Word and Excel. See page 39-43 Templates.

Set the K- Sun® Printer as the default printer before opening the application.

Before printing, check the layout by selecting Print Preview.

For the paper size enter the width of the tape cartridge in printer.

Do not specify a header or footer.

Do not enter page numbers.

For the character (font) size, adjust to a point that matches the tape length or specify the magnification ratio. Use Print Preview to check.

Images and illustrations printed with the K -Sun® printer appear in black and white shading. Dark colors are printed dark gray and light colors are printed light gray.

Decorations, text and other gradation, as well as text with a high pixel count, may be printed with breaks in the text.

Enlarging the margins on a tape with a narrow width may not leave enough room to enter text. The table below will help you set the top and bottom margins as small as possible in the application. Set the left/right margins as desired.

This example will help you understand the capabilities of the software and MaxiLabel® Pro Ver 5.0.

Select 400iXL printer. Select templates. Select GHS category. Select example: 50mm 3PP. This example will help you understand the capabilities of the software and MaxiLabel® Pro Ver 5.0.

The label is created in 3 parts.

Print Label:

1. Black Ribbon and White Tape (50mm) Cartridge in Printer.

Step 1: Choose PEARLabel® 400iXL printer. Select Pre-cut Label1 (4” x 6”).

Step 2: Create template for labels.

Save the label template. Be sure to designate it as “full” or the “complete” label.



Step 3:Next, choose one color (red or black) to remove from the label. Delete all the elements that will print in that color. In this example, all the BLACK elements are deleted. Be careful not to move the location of the RED elements.

Save this as the “RED” template.

Step 4:Open the original “Full” template, and repeat Step 3 with the 2nd color element in the label. In this example the “RED” elements are removed.

Save this as the “Black” template.




All three files would be saved similar to this example:

Step 5:

Set up the PEARLabel® 400iXL to print one of the color templates by loading the corresponding ink ribbon (i.e. I want to print the “RED” template with the red ink ribbon).

*!* Make sure to set the printer to “Don’t Cut” for the first print *!*

[Printer Settings] [Options Tab] Set to Don’t cut. Click [OK}.



Step 6:Print as many copies as needed.

Step 7:Manually rewind the labels back into the cartridge. Do this while the cartridge is still in the machine. (Or remove the cartridge and rewind the labels. Then load the cartridge/labels back into the printer). Either way, make sure the labels are not loaded too far into the rollers so the “half-moon” cutout cannot be read. This will ensure that the first label will be printed on.

Step 8:Change the ribbon to the 2nd color ink ribbon. In this example use the BLACK ink ribbon.

Step 9:Open the “Black” template.




Step 11:Change the printer settings to either “Cut each label” or “Cut after job” Click [OK].

GHS Labels - individual

It is very easy to create individual GHS symbol labels. These labels could be applied to existing labels, quick cards, used in training materials; anywhere a two-color adhesive backed label may be needed.

Choose any K-Sun® PC based printer that uses MaxiLabel® Pro Ver 5.0. (2010-PC, Label Printer Pro Models 2011XLB-PC, 2012XLST-PC, GREEN MACHINE®-PC, PEARLabel® 270, PEARLabel® 360, PEARLabel® 400iXL)

Open MaxiLabel® Pro Ver 5.0 Software. The software has the ability to create the symbol label in two colors and print in two simple steps to create the GHS symbol Black on White with Red Diamond.

Choose from the Menu Bar [insert] [Symbol] or the Symbol icon. Select Symbol.

Place the symbol on the Label.




Choose the GHS/ISO Border Icon.

The GHS/ISO Border dialog screen appears.

Click on [Diamond] and Click [OK].

The diamond will appear as a square box.

Match corners of box to green dots of symbol.



When lined up release mouse with click. Red Diamond appears around symbol.

To print label: Place Black on White cartridge in printer.

Select from the Menu Bar [File] [Print] or choose the Print icon.

The print dialog screen appears. Choose Print all except GHS or ISO Border. Click [OK].

The symbol will print.




Now place in the printer Red on Clear cartridge.


The print dialog screen appears. Choose Print only GHS or ISO Border. Click [OK].

Remove the liner from the red diamond label and place over the black and white symbol.

How to apply a Label

1. Use the K-Sun® Magicutter® Tool to score the liner.

2. Peel off the back liner. 3. Rub to adhere to surface.

Note: Do not apply the label on people or other living things.

How to apply K-Tape® 2” and 4” labels.

1. Set the label application tool against the surface you plan to label. The level shows a rough guide.

2. When the guide shows level, draw lines on the surface for either top or bottom. 3. Peel off some of the line and fold back the peeled section.

5. Apply the label using the label application tool as illustrated.

Combining Labels to Make a Sign

1. Use the previous steps and apply the “lowest label” to surface (sign blank). 2. To line up the next labels, peel off as illustrated before, one edge and apply the exposed edge to the already attached label. Do not overlap labels.* 3. Continue until sign is completed.

*Overlapping detracts from the professional appearance of your sign. Moisture can trap and cause quicker deterioration of sign.

Cleaning the Print Head

Cleaning the Print Head

You may see streaks or lines in your printing.

1. Turn off the power and unplug the AC Adapter.

2. For all printers, clean the print head every time you change the cartridge. During regular use, the printer will collect dust or ribbon fragments. Use alcohol (ethyl) with a swab and clean the print head, roller and cutter blade area.

The PEARLabel® 360 printer has a high density print head. A cleaning cartridge is available. Just place the cartridge in the printer and press Tape Feed button on front of printer before inserting a new tape cartridge.

To clean the Platen Roller of the PEARLabel® 400iXL: - leave plugged in, remove supplies, turn off.

1. Open the top cover.

2. While holding down the feed button , press ON button .

3. After the roller stops, unplug the AC adapter.

4. Clean the roller following instructions above.

Cleaning Your Printer’s exteriorDirt or dust may accumulate on the printer’s exterior. Wipe the printer clean with a soft, dry cloth. For tough stains, use a damp cloth and wipe the unit clean. Do not use benzene, thinners, alcohol, solvents, pharmaceutical agents or chemical wipes to clean your printer’s exterior.

PeelGuard® built-in Trimmer

Rounding corners keeps labels from peeling up, especially in areas where they are constantly touched and provides a professional label appearance.

K-Sun® Printer Models LABEL PRINTER PRO (2011XLB-PC, 2012XLST-PC), GREEN MACHINE® and PEARLabel® 360 have the PeelGuard® Trimmer built-in. This trimmer allows for professional rounding of label corners.

The PeelGuard® Tray in the LABEL PRINTER PRO MODELS (2011XLB-PC and 2012XLST-PC) and GREEN MACHINE® is formatted for up to 1” inch labels while the PEARLabel® 360 is formatted for up to 1 ½” labels. When using the default tape size, simply glide the label into the trimmer as far as it will go. Trimming begins. Pull out the label after hearing the clicking noise several times. If needed place the label into the printer again. Turn the label and trim the other corners.

For smaller tapes, other than the default width simply rotate the label, one corner at a time and insert into the PeelGuard® trimmer.


PeelGUard® bUIlT-In TrImmer

Using the half cut on the PEARLabel® 360 it is possible to corner trim using the PeelGuard® trimmer. Simply fold the half cut portion under the label and insert into the PeelGuard® trimmer. For multiple labels printed on the PEARLabel® 360, simply fold and insert into the trimmer to get this result:

Note: Do not insert pencils, clips or any other objects other than labels into the PeelGuard® slot. This will damage your PeelGuard® trimmer.

CLeaNiNG YOUr PeelGuard® TriMMer

Occasionally your trimmer collection tray will need cleaning.

1. Turn the power off by unplugging the adapter.2. Remove the PeelGuard® tray. 3. Throw away the trimmings and clean the tray.4. Insert the tray back into the printer.

Round label corners for better durability and appearance.

The PeelGuard® Pro is a portable label trimmer that creates 3 sizes of rounded corners.

Small: 3mm

Medium: 5mm

Large: 8mm

Directions for use.

Insert the label according to the desired size of the rounder corners. Note: Smaller labels usually look best with smaller rounded corner sizes.

Insert the label all the way into the angle slot and press the lever. Do this for all four corners.

As needed, clean the PEELGuard® Pro of accumulated cut corner pieces by removing the bottom cover. Firmly return the bottom cover to the original position.

TroubleshootingPrinting does not startIs there any message displayed on the computer screen? Follow the content of the message.

Is the printer driver installed? Install the printer driver. Installing MaxiLabel® Pro Ver 5.0and the printer driver. See pages 3-8.

Did you reboot the computer after installing the printer driver?

The printer driver may not be installed correctly unless thecomputer is rebooted. Re-install the printer driver. Installing MaxiLabel® Pro Ver 5.0 and the printer driver. See pages 3-8.

Is the printer correctly connected to the computer? Check the USB cable connecting the printer with thecomputer. See page 116.

Is the AC adapter connected to the printer? Check whether the AC adapter is connected to the unit. See page 116.

Is the selected printer correct? If the wrong printer is selected, printing will not start. See page 116.

Is the printer offline? Windows® 7, 8 If the computer boots up without the product connected page with the USB, the printer setting may be set to offline. Half-cut is not made correctly (PEARLabel® 360 printer only)

Is the “Half-cut” setting enabled? Check the settings of the printer driver. See page 113.

Is “Don’t half-cut” selected? Check the settings of the printer driver. See page 113.

Is the “half-cut” blade worn? The cutter blade becomes worn and dull after long use. If so, contact K-Sun® Corporation.

There is no power switch to turn the unit ON or OFF (2010-PC, PEARLabel® 270,360)

Is the lamp on the unit lit up? The unit has no power switch. The unit turns ON automati-cally when connecting the AC adapter and USB cable. When turned ON, the unit’s print/cut lamp lights up. To turn the power OFF, disconnect the AC adapter.

Print position undesirableHave the proper settings been specified in the application? Depending on the application used, the print position and

margins setting may require an adjustment. Check the layout prior to printing using the “Print Preview” function.

Characters are not properly printedIs the tape cartridge properly set? Remove the tape cartridge, tighten the carbon and reset it

into the unit. See pages 17-20. Slack in the tape may result in skipped characters or breaks in character lines. Feed the tape to tighten. See page 17-20.

Is there dirt on the printing head? Breaks in part of the character lines may occur if the printer head is dirty or dusty. Clean the printer head using a cotton swab dipped in alcohol (ethyl alcohol). Clean the print head every time you remove or replace a cartridge. See page 153.

Messages on the computer screen“The tape cartridge is not properly set. Printing canceled.” There is no tape cartridge set in the unit. Click on “OK” and

set the tape cartridge properly in the unit. See page 17-20.

“The printer cover is open. Please close it.” The top cover is opened. Completely close the cover manually. See page 17-20.

“The tape printer is off or is not properly connected. Printing canceled.”

Communication with the printer was disabled. Click on “OK”. Check whether the AC adapter or the cable is connected or whether the light on the printer is lit up. Also, check whether the correct printer is selected.

“Paper size setting exceeds tape width.” The tape width setting in MaxiLabel® Pro Ver 5.0 does not match the width of the tape cartridge in the K-Sun® PC printer. Click on [OK] and replace the tape cartridge or change the tape width setting in the special editor in [Tape width] on the [Tape Settings] screen. The [Tape Settings] screen opens when selecting [Tape Settings] in the [File] menu.

“Cutter operation trouble. Disconnect/reconnect AC adapter. If this message appears again, contact customer service.”

There is a problem with the cutter. Click on “OK” disconnect/reconnect the AC adaptor. If the tape is stuck and does not move, disconnect the AC adapter and remove the tape cartridge. Reconnect the AC adapter and try printing. If the same error occurs, contact the store of purchase or K-Sun® customer service department.

“Printer head overheating. Please wait a moment.” The printer head has exceeded the temperature suitable for printing. Wait until the printer head temperature cools down to a temperature suitable for printing.

“Motor operation trouble. If this message appears again, contact customer service.”

A problem has occurred in the K-Sun® PC unit. Disconnect the AC adapter and check the K-Sun® PC unit. Reconnect the AC adapter and try printing. If the same error occurs, contact the store of purchase or K-Sun® customer service department.

Labels do not adhereIs the back of the label peeled off? Peel off the back and apply. See page 150.

Is the adhesion surface dirty or uneven? Labels will not adhere to coarse or rough surfaces or dusty or oily surfaces. See page 151.

Cleaning the unitDirt or dust on the unit’s exterior Wipe the unit clean with a soft, dry cloth. For tough

stains, use a damp cloth and wipe the unit clean. Never use benzene, thinner, alcohol or any other solvents, pharmaceutical agents or chemical wipes on the printer’s.

Skipped characters or line breaks There may be dirt on the printer head. Clean the printer exterior surface. Clean the printer head using a cotton swab dipped in alcohol (ethyl alcohol).

Not lit The power is OFF. The unit turns automatically ON when the AC adapter and USB cable are connected. Check the AC adapter and USB cable connection.

Flashes Long Printing or tape feeding is in progress. Wait a moment and the unit will return to the operable condition.

Flashes Short Tape cutting is in progress. Wait a moment and the unit will return to the operable condition.

Flashes Very Short An error has occurred in the unit. Check if there is a message appearing on PC monitor screen. If no message appears, check that there is a tape in the printer, that the cover is closed. If the flashes continue disconnect the adapter; the reconnect. If unit continues to flash short lit then disconnect and contact the store of purchase or K-Sun®.

Half Cut Lamp Conditions PearLabel® 360On On Printing with half cut setting enabled.

Blinks (same interval on-off, on-off; slow blink) Half Cutting.

Blinks (same interval on-off, on-off; fast blink) An error has occurred in the printer. Check if there is a message appearing on the PC monitor screen. If no message appears, check that there is a tape in the printer, that the cover is closed. If the flash continues, disconnect the adapter; then reconnect. If unit continues to flash short lit then disconnect and contact the store of purchase or K-Sun®.

Off Half cutting disabled.
