The Berlin Institute of Health (BIH) is a biomedical research institution focusing on translational research and precision medicine. The BIH is dedicated to improving the prediction in progressive diseases and developing advanced therapies for unmet medical needs in order to improve patients’ health and quality of life. The Institute is committed to providing research solutions and innovation enabling value-based, personalized healthcare. The BIH is funded 90% by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and 10% by the State of Berlin. The two founding institutions, Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine in the Helmholtz Association (MDC), are independent, member entities within the BIH.
The Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC) is a member of the Helmholtz Association of National Research Centers, supported by the Federal Government of Germany and the Senate of Berlin. It is dedicated to interdisciplinary biomedical research with the aim to translate basic research findings into clinical applications. MDC researchers collaborate with Berlin based research and medical institutions as well as leading international partner institutions. The Berlin Institute for Medical Systems Biology (BIMSB) is a young program at the MDC, where researchers focus on gene regulatory mechanisms, supported by ‘omics’-technologies, computational methodologies and interdisciplinary interaction. The program will increase in size of currently 16 to 25 research groups, including platforms. Since April 2019, it is located in a new, dedicated research building in the center of Berlin.
Charité is one of the largest university hospitals in Europe. Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin represents a single medical faculty, which serves both Humboldt Universtität zu Berlin and Freie Universität Berlin. Charité extends over four campuses, and has close to 100 different Departments and Institutes, which make up a total of 17 different Charité Centers.
Job description: The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the newly founded joint MDC/BIH clinical research focus “Single Cell Approaches for Personalized Medicine”, initially comprising three research groups - affiliated to both BIMSB/MDC and Charité - as well infrastructures for clinical sample handling and single cell technologies. The position is placed at the interface between BIH, BIMSB/MDC and the Charité. The project manager will report to Prof. Nikolaus Rajewsky, working closely with BIH faculty and management, Charité clinicians and BIMSB management.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Managing the recruitment process of research group leaders Interfacing between scientific and administrative actions to support researchers within the
research focus; liaising with scientists, administration and external partners Planning and oversight of the budget Identification of funding opportunities; assistance in application, coordination and reporting of
program-specific grants Communication with participating scientists, infrastructures and international researchers in
the field of single cell biology Organization of scientific events such as symposia and workshops Creation of content for and establishment of website Maintenance of social media channels
Required qualifications and experience:
Applicants must have a degree in life sciences or medicine. A PhD in life sciences and working in a high-paced professional setting is expected. Professional experience in the area of science management and/or communication and/or in the field of single cell genomics would be of advantage. Further requirements are:
excellent organizational, writing and communication skills professional command of both spoken and written English knowledge of major national and international funding instruments and experience in grant
writing experience of working for international research institutions and ability to effectively interact
with multiple stakeholders on international and interdisciplinary levels would be helpful motivation and interpersonal skills to interact with researchers and administrative staff; ability
to move between the scientific and managerial level passion for science, self-motivation, pro-active attitude, responsible and independent project
handling effective multi-tasking and the ability to work with tight deadlines are a must
Salary: E 13/E 14 TVöD/Bund, according to individual qualifications
