THE LEAVEN OF THE PHARISEES 

I. INTRODUCTION

a) Knew she was poor in spirit.

b) Mourning for her daughter.

c) Willing to do whatever it took.d) Jesus was “right”

and she knew it! (1)  Jesus honored

her humility.

with His ministry. a)  Takes Disciples a

A. Jesus doing what no human could do!

1. Performing miracles that only God could

do.a) Easy to glorify the Lord when being healed!b) Crucifixion – most will disappear.

B. Another feeding miracle.

1. The Disciples have forgotten!

III. Matthew 15:32-33

A. Sound familiar?

IV. Matthew 15:34-39

A. A separate event!

V. Matthew 16:1-3

A. Jesus knows their hearts

1. He exposes their motives!

 VI. Matthew 16:4

A. Matthew 12:40

1. Mark 8:12 a)   “Seeking sign upon sign.

(1)  Greatest “sign” = His death and resurrection!

(a)  Jesus leaves!

VII. Matthew 16:5-6

A. Jesus warns Disciples about them.

1. He is talking about sin (leaven)!

a)  Isaiah 55:8-9

VIII. Matthew 16:7-11

A. Disciples’ statement silly, but we know the answer!

1. His thoughts are not my thoughts.

2. His thoughts have greater meaning.

a)  Jesus talking about sin!

b)  Jesus could “manufacture it”! (1)  Jesus says it was a different event.

(a)  Nine thousand men!

 IX. CONCLUSION

1. False lives full of sin.2. “Careful what you are listening to.” a)  Get a steady diet of

God’s word!
