Matt Stabler was 27 years old in September 2009 when he began volunteering for Coaches vs. Cancer. It provided him the opportunity to combine his love of college basketball with his strong desire to give back to the community. Little did he know that five months later he would be diagnosed with a rare and in most cases fatal form of cancer known as “rhab-domyosarcoma.” Despite the diagnosis and the odds against

him, he continued to work tirelessly for Coaches vs. Cancer through surgery and three unsuccessful chemotherapy pro-tocols until his death on October 26th. The highly successful Coaches vs. Cancer Tip-off Reception, held just two weeks before his death, was primarily the result of his efforts. This tournament is dedicated to those efforts, his love of life, and the courage with which he faced his cancer.
