Concrete : 5000 psi, 6% Air Entrained, 3/8 Aggregate.
Interlocking Geogrid: Fornit 30-30
Reinforcing Netting: 5 Pick Action Back.
Underlayment: Organic or Poylester
Weight per sf: 10 lbs
Roll above was manufactured with a double net wood curlex TRM attached to the back of the Flexamat to encourage vegetation growth.
Vegetated Flexamat
City of Hamilton, OH
Flexamat can be manufactured with non-woven fabrics as well as various TRMs attached
to the back. Site conditions determine the underlayment material.
Flexamat made with 8oz. non-woven fabric backing
10’ & 12’ wide Flexamat installed outside of the Student Health complex at WVU in Morgantown, WV.
4800 square feet of 8’ wide rolls

Large-Scale Channel Erosion Tested (ASTM D 6460)
• Non-vegetated over sandy loam • 30% Slope • Achived 24+ psf (shear) & 19+
ft/sec (velocity) • Both are “+” because ½ inch
of soil loss was never achieved. TRI Environmental Testing facility maxed out it’s capabilities without Flexamat allowing any erosion to take place!
Benefits of Flexamat: • Will not crack with freezing
and thawing cycles –longer life span.
• Contaminants are filtered through vegetated channels.
• Less expensive and faster installation.
Benefits of Flexamat: • Can be maintained with
commercial mowers • Locked in place, will not
move like rock • Rocks can be thrown • Vegetated Flexamat will not
heat storm water like rocks which absorb heat
Benefits:
• Can be driven over and maintained with larger mowers.
• Less expensive and faster to Install.
} Benefits of Flexamat: ◦ Vegetated armor ◦ Will not break apart with freezing and thawing cycles ◦ Settling will not pull apart Flexamat – it flexes with ground movement ◦ Significant cost savings – both in material cost and installation cost
Benefits:
• Flexamat Articulates and will not crack.
Benefits of the Flexamat on this project – Carl Nucilli, Environmental Coordinator, Corridor H
•Cost The contract had a concrete gutter Item for the project at $80.00 per sy The Flexamat was priced at $45.00 we placed 1200 sy at a savings of $31,200 dollars. Also we could not use DRG due to the federal highway standards concerning rock being placed along the roadway. We would have to placed guardrail which would have been money added to the project (Safety Issue). •Performance The contractor seeded and matted the ditch four times but couldn't get grass to grow due to flow in the ditch the department had thousand in the seeding. •Time The contractor did a great job on the grading of the ditch so when we got ready to roll the mat into place we didn't have any problems and it went very quick. (saves time) Concrete gutter is a vary time consuming procedure. •Vegetated Solution We seeded the ditch before the placement and within a week grass was popping through the matting and helps catch any sediment from reaching the stream. I was up on the project today 1-8-2013 and there are no erosion problems. • Summary The reason I chose the Flexamat is that seeding and matting didn't work due to springs in the area causing runoff in the ditch. Placed the Flexamat and no problems. The runoff flows on top the matting so no more erosion of the ditch. That keeps the WVDEP off my back. I am personally satisfied with the product and recommend it.

Obannon Creek is a tributary to the Little Miami River in Southwestern Ohio. The Little Miami has been designated a National Wild and Scenic River. This designation does not allow for any development along the river and restricts development along it’s tributaries. Little Miami Inc. is the group that presides over the Little Miami. When these homeowners sought a solution for the erosion taking away their backyards, Little Miami Inc. initially told them there was nothing they could do. A wall of any kind was not permitted. The Flexamat solution was presented. This solution was approved because it allowed for re-vegetation of the stream bank. Willow stakes were planted within the Flexamat protection. The erosion was permanently stopped while the tributary maintained it’s natural appearance and characteristics. This solution was also the most cost effective solution presented.
