ABS 1999
Mats Lindroos
for the ABS team
Mats Lindroos
Objectives set for 1999
• Consolidate project– New generation of ABS programs for LINAC,
PSB, PS, AD and East Hall in operation– Database enhancements– BeamOptics developments
• Establish an ABS WEB site at CERN
• Develop collaboration with the SL-division
Mats Lindroos
PS ABS approach– Measurements done
with “standard” measurement programs
– ABS program is a “sub-program” for the user
• ABS program is GENERIC
• ABS program is DATADRIVEN
• Data are stored in a DATABASE (ACCIS)
Mats Lindroos
Activities 1999New correction instances in operation
• PSB and LINAC:– Steering injection and ejection for protons (off-
line for ions) for PS and ML
• PS:– Closed orbit correction (high and low energy)– Residual oscillations from injection bump– Coherent oscillations for protons– Steering TT2 for protons, ions and positrons
Mats Lindroos
Activities 1999• Consolidation of ABS program• New version of the database interface software
– Towards WEB and with future interfaces to MAD and AGILE (as well as BeamOptics)
• Specification of a SL-PS TT2-TT10 steering ABS program
• SL testing ACCIS database interface• Proceedings published from ABS98• ABS web site established (cern.ch/abs)
Mats Lindroos
What did we learn in 1999?
• The project is man-power limited– OK, but it means that all can’t be done today and not
even tomorrow (East Hall)
• The core group proved to be very efficient– Mats, Josi, Marine, Franck, Michel M., Michel A.
• Collaboration with the SL division very positive– ABS: Gianluigi Arduini, Volker Mertens, Jorg
Wenninger
– Control: SL-PS convergence project, Francois Chevrier
Mats Lindroos
ABS 2000• ABS project ABS activity
– ABS is here to stay!• Marine Pace takes over the responsibility for the ABS activity• Mats Lindroos will be part of core group and responsible for:
– Coordinating Sc.A. Yu-Chiu Chao’s work at PS– Coordinating CERN wide ABS seminars– Member of ABS01 (SLAC) workshop organizing committee
• BeamOptics will be run by the new BeamOptics editorial board (Editor 2000: Dr Yu-Chiu Chao, Further info: Bruno)– Develop BeamOptics– Produce revised yellow report for ABS01 (cern.ch/BeamOptics)– ICAP contribution
