NUTRITIONISTS AND DIETITIANS According to the Die''an Associa'on of Australia (DAA) -‐ DAA -‐ FAQs, there is a dis'nc'on made between die''ans and other occupa'ons in the nutri'on and food science field, including that of nutri'onist. The key difference between a die>>an and a nutri>onist is that, in addi>on to or as part of their qualifica>on in human nutri>on, a die>>an has undertaken a course of study that included substan>al theory and supervised and assessed professional prac>ce in clinical nutri>on, medical nutri>on therapy and food service management. So, in Australia, all dieYYans are considered to be nutriYonists; however, nutriYonists without a dieteYcs qualificaYon cannot take on the specialised role of a dieYYan.
