Welcome to this pretest for students in Year 3.

This test is designed for use in the first week of the school year, to assess how well students have

understood the contents of the mathematics curriculum for Year 2.

Use the Teacher Overview as you instruct students to complete the test.

For each question there is a Question Number (matching the numbers on the students’ response

sheets), an Australian Curriculum ID code for the Content Description, Teacher Instructions and the

student Worksheet or Flashcard to be used for the question:

It is recommended that the teacher allows students to have a break if they are tired or restless.

Part A: Written Section

The first part of the pretest is designed to be given to the entire class as a written test. Print the

student response sheet for each student.

Teacher instructions are provided to guide students.

Part B: Oral Section

The second part of the pretest should be administered to individual students by an adult.

Oral instructions and expected responses are provided.

Print the Oral Pretest Assessment Record for each student.
