September
Week 1
Week 2
Week 3
Week 4 & 5
(October)
Task/Outcomes
Chrysanthemum
Create names, sort by 1 & 2 attributes, measure objects & ourselves wour names, compare names, graph names according to number of
letters
What is Math?
Geometric Solids (Cones, Cubes, Cylinders or The Shape of Things)
Sort 2D shapes
Sort & name the sort by 1 & 2 attributes
Resort again to see if they can find other ways of doing it
Trace the sorts to show the attribute
Name the 2D shape within the 3D object
Cuisenaire Rods Play & explore, establish colors and their symbols
Could you sort the rods any other way other than color?
Read “My Little Sister Ate One Hare”
Use the rods to show what might be happening?
Using this model, have them find some relationships between the
rods. (I want them to match the rods together to create the equations,
+9, 2+8, etc)
Name the relationships (y + y)
Mystery Bags
Build to 18 using two colors
Guess amount in bag, put blocks together, write down their amounand the equations it makes, pass to anther person, odd/even
Start with 10 work towards 18
Share equations, inverse equations, sort equations
Sort numbers according to 1 & 2 attributes
Return to My Little Sister Ate One Hare
Solve problem in story after doing Mystery Bags with equations that
make 10
October
Week 5
Week 6
Continuation from end of September
Mystery Bags
Building bags with differences of 1s, 2s, 5s, 10s, from different starting
points e.g., 13, 15, 17, 19, 21, 23 or 12, 14, 16, 18, 20 (Are any patterns
forming?)
Skip counting forwards and backwards
Build, name, compare, place value cards, represent with numbers, 10
10 grid, number line
Sort the numbers
Use Literature:

The Foot Book
One Is a Snail Ten is A Crab
Or any others that might fit
Owen
Work with squares, cut them apart, trace, build a shape, glue to
construction paper, trace
Squares (2), cut into triangles, use vocabulary, create different pattern Pick favorite design and create a larger quilt on construction paper
Use triangles to pattern with
Which rectangle is bigger activity?
Art (create a 4 sectioned pattern piece that will be used to create a
larger quilt)
Mystery Bags continued from week 6
Pocket Problems
Count and show how many pockets are in your group, the class
Sixteen Runaway Pumpkins
Problem with pumpkins
Art – create pumpkin faces, display and do some math problems withthem
November
Week 9
Week 10
Week 11
Chrysanthemum
Compare our names with Chrysanthemum, Delphinium
Mystery Bags
Compare different numbers – larger than 20 – with & without blocks
Still estimating, building, representing with numerals, on grid, or
number line
Sorting of numbers, equations, inverse operations
What strategies are starting to emerge?King’s Commissioner
Place value
Mystery Bags continued December
Week 12
Week 13
Week 14, 15, 16
Cuisenaire Rods – continue
Equality and inequality - Balances
What relationships can you find?
Complete the blank e.g., y + y = lg + ?
Geoblocks and Geometric Shapes – 2D shapes & 3D objects
Sort by 2 attributes – The Greedy Triangle
Draw structures from different view points – caterpillar, giant, you
Trace their rule, if possible
Graph the shapes we have
Create a cover for your shape
Do all the nets look a like?
Sort the nets according to 2 attributes
How many different looking nets can you create for one 3D shape?
Name the characteristics of your shape.
Pick different objects to work with each day
Match the nets with the 3D shapes.

feet.
Graph the different treads on the bottom of our shoes
Measure with cubes
