Materials: Corn seed 1 sheet of paper towel Lima bean seed Marker Small Ziploc bag Stapler 10 ml water Materials: Corn seed 1 sheet of paper towel Lima bean seed Marker Small Ziploc bag Stapler 10 ml water Procedure: 1. Put sheet of paper towel in Ziploc bag. 2. Pour water over paper towel. 3. Staple down center of Ziploc bag 4. Place corn seed on left side of bag. 5.Place lima bean on right side of bag. 6.Use marker and label each side with the name of the seed. 7. Place in area designated by your teacher. 8. Observe daily and record qualitative and quantitative observations. Purpose: What are the differences in germination of a corn seed and a lima bean seed? Background Research: The beginning of growth of a new plant from a seed is called germination. A Plant embryo is enclosed in a protective coating and has its own source of nutrients. Germination is the early stage of seed growth. Hypothesis: If I place a corn seed and a lima bean seed in a very moist environment, then the _______________ seed will begin to germinate faster because ___________________________. Variables: MIX- type of seed DRY-rate of growth Observations: Qualitative- Quantitative- Inference : DayCorn Growth Stage Lima Bean Growth Stage Data: A= Seed Coat Wrinkles B= Seed Coat Falls Off C= Root Growth D=Stem E= Leaves Conclusion: Application: Monocot-Dicot Lab
