In a world of diminishing ideology, where industrial production has covered the whole planet with objects, our consciousness is increasingly influenced by merchandise: we are what we are, because of the things that we make. Materialism – an exhibition of furniture, ceramics, carpets and drawings by Nathalie Du Pasquier and George Sowden.

As founder members, they took their place in the first Memphis exhibition, Milano, September 1981. They participated in all the subsequent exhibitions until the group stopped working together, at the end of 1986.

Since then, Nathalie has been working as an artist and George Sowden involved in his design studio, developing industrial products. Both of them have continued a personal interest in working with craft and small industrial organisations, of which this exhibition is a consequence.

In un mondo dove le ideologie vanno scomparendo, dove la produzione industriale ha riempito l’intero pianeta di oggetti, la nostra coscienza è sempre più influenzata dalle merci: siamo quel che siamo per via delle cose che facciamo.

Materialism - una mostra di mobili, ceramiche, tappeti e disegni di Nathalie Du Pasquier e George Sowden.

Come membri fondatori hanno preso parte alla prima mostra Memphis nel settembre 1981. Hanno partecipato alle mostre successive finché il gruppo non ha smesso di lavorare insieme alla fine del 1986.

Da allora Du Pasquier ha lavorato come artista e Sowden si è concentrato col suo studio a sviluppare prodotti industriali. Ambedue hanno mantenuto un interesse personale a lavorare con piccole realtà industriali o artigianali. Questa mostra ne è una conseguenza.
