Belt Conveying Equipment

FLSmidth’s extensive experience combined with dynamic analysis software, horizontal and vertical curve analysis software, higher belt tension ratings and higher idler load ratings have allowed our engineers to successfully design and build belt conveying systems that would have been unachievable just a few years ago.

Using sophisticated modeling techniques, we can predict how solid particles move and interact in space. Mathematical equations consider the shape, position, cohesiveness, velocity and force of each particle and calculate how they flow as they pass through a predefined space to provide new solutions and minimize existing problems of material flow through transfer points.

Portable ConveyorsFLSmidth mine-duty Portable Conveyors (Grasshoppers) consist of conveyor components and frame structure supported by tires or crawler tracks located at the head end, and a steel skid structure located at the tail end of the conveyor. Typically, a string of portable conveyors feed a stacker. Individual portable conveyors are inserted or removed from the string as stacking progresses.

Mobile Bridge Boom StackerAlthough more commonly used in Heap Leaching and Tailings stacking applications, the Mobile Bridge Boom Stacker (MBBS) can be a valuable part of the equipment mix in stockyard operations. Mobile Stacking ConveyorLike the MBBS, the mobile stacking conveyor (MSC) is a machine with extensive service in the heap leach area that can certainly be considered for stockyard applications, demonstrating the depth of FLSmidth’s equipment offerings.

Mobile Reclaim ConveyorThe mobile reclaim conveyor (MRC) complements the Bucketwheel Reclaimer employed in both stockyards and heap leach operations. The MRC is a mobile conveying unit with mobile hopper designed to accept material from a reclaimer.

KOCH Pipe Conveyor®

KOCH Pipe Conveyor® from FLSmidth offer forward-looking conveying solutions for all types of bulk materials. With their special design, they ensure high availablity and low investment costs as well as protection for both material and environment. Pipe Conveyors can be integrated easily into existing plants, using up to 60% less space required by conventional systems, and ensure reliable long-distance transportation, especially in difficult terrrain.

No other pipe conveying system is so fully developed, so successfully tested in operation, and installed in so many applications.

The FLSmidth KOCH Pipe Conveyor transports bulk materials dust free with low noise emissions and totally enclosed over roads, tracks, waterways or open seas, through existing plants or underground tunnels, and over public streets, in environmentally protected zones. Even contaminated materials are conveyed without any negative environmental impact.

In the material loading area, the conveying belt is still open and the material is supplied onto the belt in the same way as with conventional belt conveyors. Over a length of several meters, the belt is closed and forced into its tubular shape by special devices. From that point, the belt forms a sealed pipe over the entire conveying line. The material is protected against external environmental factors like wind and rain while the environment is protected against any potential material loss. The flexible belt pipe design allows directional changes without the need for additional transfer stations.

The curves can either be horizontal or vertical or a combination of both. The belt opens on its own before reaching the material discharging point. Following the material discharge, the belt on the lower strand is closed again on its return. This eliminates spilt material over the whole Pipe Conveyor line and has the advantage that the carrying side of the belt is once again inside the tube.

Bucket Chain ExcavatorDesigned particularly for sticky bulk materials. The store consists of two or more longitudinal stock piles stacked according to the windrow method. While one pile is being stacked, the other is reclaimed.

Bucket Wheel MachinesHandle even the most demanding bulk materials with no problems: from sticky or plastified materials to frozen or encrusted materials. A variety of combined stacker-reclaimers options are available to perform stockpiling and reclaiming, built in a rocker design or pantograph.

StackersFLSmidth stackers offer proven, reliable solutions for building up longitudinal stockpiles in storage and blending applications. Equipped with a luffing and slewing boom, they stack bulk materials in single or parallel stockpiles using all conventional methods.

Mechanical Shiploaders and Ship UnloadersFLSmidth shiploaders and ship unloaders are versatile units that can be tailored to any task using proven components. These units move on rails allowing faster loading and unloading of ships of all sizes.

Individual components such as telescoping loading chutes and slewing loading spouts ensure optimal loading of the cargo holds. For dust suppression, special chute designs or dust collection systems can be integrated upon request.

FLSmidth barge loaders and unloaders are available especially for river ships - these are units developed by FLSmidth for more efficient loading and unloading of bulk materials in inner harbors.

Mobile Stacking and Reclaiming Equipment

Mobile Stacking and Reclaiming SystemsFLSmidth provided the first mobile stacking conveyor to the mining industry. Since then, FLSmidth’s RAHCO® mobile stacking equipment has been used in permanent Heap Leach Pads as well as innovative cost-effective Reusable Heap Leach Pad solutions, such as the racetrack system that reduces both operating costs and environmental impact.

With years of innovation and experience, our RAHCO and Conveyor Engineering stacking and reclaiming systems work efficiently together, with the stacker following the reclaimer as it moves around the pad. The concept is effective because the equipment can move without significant preparation work or support equipment.

Mobile stacking and reclaiming systems can be designed to include advanced automation solutions that facilitates specific project requirements, such as stacking based on 3-D scanning technology.

Radial StackersFLSmidth Radial Stackers work in conjunction with many other mobile conveyors such as Portable Conveyors or Mobile Stacking Conveyors and greatly increase their flexibility.

Race Track SystemsThe “race track” system is a reusable, or on-off, leach pad. Fresh ore is brought onto a dedicated prepared surface, stacked, and leached. Once the leach process is completed, the spent ore is removed making way for more fresh ore. As the spent material is reclaimed, typically with a bucket wheel excavator, the stacking system places fresh ore in the reclaimed area.

Mobile ConveyorsThe FLSmidth Mobile Stacking Conveyor (MSC) utilizes a single conveyor belt supported on a series of truss frames connected by specially developed joints that allow the entire machine to move on crawler tracks even on uneven ground conditions while handling the ore.

Mobile Bridge Boom StackerFLSmidth Mobile Bridge Boom Stacker (MBBS) can handle complex stacking configurations and is an excellent addition to a Mobile Stacking system. Contrary to a Radial Stacker, the MBBS head tracks only operate over a small area, in essentially a straight line, which is desirable to reduce the effect of compaction.

Dual Truck Mobile SizerThe Dual Truck Mobile Sizer (DTMS) is the world’s first fully mobile truck dump station. With minimal ground preparation required, the DTMS can be relocated as the mine face shifts. Haulage time as well as travel distances can be reduced while retaining mining flexibility inside the pit.

Semi-Mobile Crushing StationsFLSmidth’s Semi-Mobile Crushing Stations are custom designed for the unique requirements of individual mines. They are ideally suited to deep hard rock mines where frequent relocation of the crusher is not economically feasible and incorporate FLSmidth’s world class and proven gyratory crushers and low speed sizers.

Triple Track Mobile Sizer The RAHCO Triple Track Mobile Sizer (TTMS) is a completely mobile sizing system tailored to overburden removal and waste stacking. Designed to move under load, the TTMS contains twin hoppers with apron feeders for increased machine availability for feeding both hoppers directly with two smaller hydraulic shovels.

Drive Over Dump StationThe latest addition to FLSmidth’s line of At-the-Face solutions, the Drive Over Dump Station (DODS) is a semi-mobile in-pit sizing station that allows truck traffic to flow in one direction, increasing efficiency as well as mitigating risk. A truck approaches the DODS and drives across the bridge and the gates. Once on the far side, the gates open

exposing the hopper below. The haul truck deposits its payload into the hopper. The truck then lowers its bed and drives away from the dump station exiting the DODS without ever having to change direction.

Feeding

Belt, chain, and apron feeders each have their own specific applications. FLSmidth has supplied feeders for more than 65 years and we continue to modernize their design to meet the demands of the industry. By being able to offer a variety of these technologies, FLSmidth can help you select the most appropriate type of feeder for your particular requirements.

Drive selection is perhaps the most important design consideration that determines the success of a belt or apron feeder installation. FLSmidth uses both in-house application experience and industry accepted methods to determine the optimal drive size required. FLSmidth also helped pioneer the use of variable frequency drives for high tonnage feeder applications in excess of 12,000 t/h in capacity.

Additionally, by incorporating the results of Discrete Element Modeling (DEM) to better understand the material flow and velocity profiles for each unique feeder installation, FLSmidth’s liner and chute designs have a proven track record of providing low operating costs by extending wear component life.

stock pile reclaim facilities in coal stockyards at power stations and coal mines. The Feeders and Feeder Breakers can be used for clearing tip hoppers where loads from side-tip coal trucks are received. Feed rates range from 300 tph to 2,500 tph nominal, the drive train options are either electromechanical or hydraulic driven. These robust machines are designed for long service life in stockyard operations.

Drag Chain ConveyorsUsed for economical enclosed conveying, the drag chain conveyor can be used to reliably transport any type of bulk material safely, gently, with all-round protection and with minimum space requirements. The outstanding handling rate has been proven in over 6,000 conveyors installed worldwide.

Chutework & Gates Maintenance personnel will tell you that chute work causes the majority

of conveyor problems, downtime and operating headaches. Properly designed chute work starts with experienced designers. FLSmidth is recognized for having unmatched experience and talent providing chute and gate systems that minimize plugging and liner wear while extending the life of the belt and other major components.

Apron FeedersFLSmidth offers robust horizontal and inclined apron feeders for extracting bulk materials from under a dump hopper or regulated feed to a crusher. Rugged and reliable, they are easy to operate and maintain because they are designed for uninterrupted service, year after year, and only need stopping for periodic scheduled maintenance intervals.

Belt FeedersFLSmidth’s references include several of the world’s largest belt feeders. Well known for their ruggedness and ease of maintenance, we have custom designed and developed belt training systems and take-up mechanisms to better handle the arduous duty under which a belt feeder operates.

Chain FeedersChain feeders are designed to transfer material from the feed side towards the discharge “Head Chute” side of the feeder at a constant volumetric rate. They can be easily coupled together with an ABON® sizer for no restriction in the flow of material to create a constant flow.

Tailings / Waste Stacking Systems

There is a paradigm shift occurring with the disposal of tailings - Dry Tails Stacking. FLSmidth has developed over many years an extensive range of versatile mobile stacking equipment including conveyors and stackers, along with a wide range interconnecting conveyors to accommodate variations in mine conditions both topographically and geotechnically.

Spreading Conveyor The spreading conveyor (SC) is designed to spread tailings material onto the ground in an advanced stacking method. In simplest terms, it is a crawler mounted conveyor. Two sets of tracks located at the head and tail, are mounted perpendicular to the belt and allow the SC to move and skid steer. The head track has a leveling system that keeps it vertical while the tail track is allowed to move freely which gives the machine a 3 point suspension. The SC is fed by the MSCT (mobile stacking conveyor tripper) discharge conveyor. The MSCT is “slave” to the SC and its movements.

Mobile Bridge Boom StackerA stacker (spreader), such as a Mobile Bridge Boom Stacker, can be added to the Mobile Stacking system to increase the distance between the edge of the pile and the stacking system, depending on geotechnical requirements of the stacking plan. The addition of a stacker can also increase the flexibility of the stacking system when filling complex valleys.

Intelligent control systemIntelligent control system based on 3D laser scanning and RTK-GPS positioning for uniform tailings pile level control especially when stacking onto an area with a complex height

profile or drainage necessities. This will increase the number of possible dump sites and will give the possibility to plan and shape a final pile profile adjusted to the environment.

Stacking systems Dry tailings or waste stacking systems function as a continuous mobile stacking system. These systems can stack in advance (stacking in front of the system) to provide an ability to stack material at greater depth in the case of both waste stacking and dry tails stacking. Retreat stacking

(stacking behind the system) is common in heap leach applications.

FLSmidth stacking systems provide flexibility in stacking material in lifts of varying depths. Once a lift has been completed, additional lifts can be stacked on top through the use of elevating conveyors. By stacking in lifts, several years of waste material can be stacked on a small footprint thereby reducing the environmental impact costs.

Loading & UnloadingFacilities

FLSmidth has built several Train load out stations throughout the world for different ore types ranging from coal, iron ore, limestone and phosphates. Train loading systems are the final discharge point at the mine onwards to the ports. Typically two systems are utilised, gravimetric (batch weigh) and volumetric (flood system). FLSmidth has the ability to design and supply both forms, depending on the material handled and the accuracy required.

Train load out systemTrain load out system typically comprises of Surge Bin (from 250 to 2000Tn) with charging gates, weigh load cells, discharge gates, loading chute (mechanical fail safe), power pack and hydraulics, control room and all electrics and controls for automatic and manual operation. Now current providers either use load cells or strain gauges for wagon lead in or lead out for tare and gross masses. Using the BULK EXPERT technology we will differentiate ourselves in the market using 2D laser technology for the lead in wagons to calculate the mass required for each wagon. Then quantifying the gross mass via load cells, typically three wagons out.

Holland™ loadersThe Holland™ loader is manufactured in two configurations. The 700 model makes a horizontal cut and the 600 series models make a vertical cut. Both styles are well suited to perform the mass excavations required for major infrastructure projects such as highways, airports, dams, irrigation and flood control as well as surface mine stripping, mine reclamation and large environmental remediation projects. In average conditions, the Holland systems can be expected to move 20,000 CY per shift and in ideal conditions, single shift productivities have exceeded 40,000 CY. No other excavating system offers this production capacity at such low ownership and operating costs.

Operation and maintenance of the units are straight forward. Few moving components, inter-changeability of parts, simplicity and sturdiness of design and construction help insure that Holland loaders can reliably meet your earthmoving needs.Holland Belt Loaders are modular and can easily be modified to fit your project requirements.
