CULLOMPTON RANGERSCullompton Rangers FC began life in 1945 and originally played in the East Devon Victory League. Theinitial headquarters for the Club were the Cullompton School Playing Fields, but they soon moved toSpeeds Meadow, their current base and were there for a short time before moving to land adjoining theM5 motorway. Next stop was the area known as Knightswood, and then, Court Drive, before a return totheir current home. The Club badge depicts the business’s which were prominent in the town at thetime the Club was formed, namely a ropes works, glove makers and a woollen factory.
The most successful era for the Club was the early 1960’s when the Senior Side swept all before them winningthe Devon & Exeter League Premier Division in both 1961 and 1964 but it was not until 1984 that real successwas enjoyed by the Club once again, winning the East Devon Senior Cup under the management of MarcusScott, the current Club Secretary. The standard of the First Team has improved steadily over the years and theClub became founder members of the Devon County League when it began life in 1992.
The Club has moved with the times as the Devon League was replaced by the South West Peninsula Leaguein 2007 and Rangers have been members of the Premier League ever since. Floodlights were installed in 1998which allowed the club to enter the FA Vase and latterly the FA Cup. During the late spring of 2010 magnificentnew changing rooms were completed at a cost of £220,000.
During the past 12 months we have carried out extensive improvements at Edenvale Park installing newperimeter fencing and also investing £40k on new drainage with the help of grants from Viridor and the FootballFoundation. We are extremely fortunate to have our own Supporter’s Club who continue to make a fantasticcontribution to the smooth running of the Club.
There have been numerous managers in charge of playing matters at the Club over the last decade. At the turnof the century they were managed by former Exeter City player Ray Pratt who finished runners up with histeam in 1997/8 and again in the following season. Other managers in recent seasons have been Phil Margrett’swho led the team to a Throgmorton Cup Final. Since Phil we have seen Steve Rowlands, Jason Rees, RichardPears and Lee Annunziata at the helm before the current manager Peter Buckingham picked up the reins inthe Summer of 2010, he was then joined for the 2011/12 campaign by Richard Pears who returned to the Club.Peter stood down at the end of that season and Rangers then appointed Plymouth based Dane Bunney withTony Ali as his assistant. At the start of 2013 Dane stood down and was replaced by Mike Taylor who joined usafter a successful spell managing Witheridge. Tony left the Club at the end of the season and his role wastaken over by Ray Pryse.
For the start of the 2014/5 campaign James Ward was at the helm with his assistant Paul Short. Jamesenjoyed a successful playing career at Yeovil Town and managed Tiverton Town for a short spell. UnfortunatelyJames had to finish his short stint at the Club who then appointed first team captain Dan Kenyon with LiamRaybould as his Number 2. Rangers went on to finish a creditable 12th. That season Dan added Matthew Scottand Liam Raybould to his backroom staff. Dan stood down at Christmas 2015 due to work commitments andhis two lieutenants took over until the end of the season. We were then very fortunate to recruit Hedley Steeleas our manager who is vastly experienced in local football having served his apprenticeship at Bickleigh,Exmouth and Willand Rovers. In his first full season in charge the management team led us to a very creditable9th position in what is a very competitive league but after only five games into the new season Hedley resignedand was replaced by Liam with Matthew as his assistant. Later in the season Steve Orchard joined themanagement team
Unfortunately Rangers were forced to withdraw their Second Team from the Devon & Exeter League as theirsearch for a new manager proved to be fruitless.
There is also a thriving junior set up with teams from age 7 to 15.
Finally the Club would like to place on record their thanks to Steve and Mel of Edenvale Turf(SW) Ltd for beingour main sponsors once again this season.

FROM THE DUGOUT
www.cullomptonrangersfc.co.uk
Good afternoon everyone and welcome to Edenvale Park for today’s league game against Millbrook, I trust that their supporters will enjoy their day with
us. Our visitors have had a good start to the season and currently sit one place above us in the League. It has been a very sad week for the Club having lost our Treasurer, John “Clack” Chambers on Tuesday morning. It was a terrible shock for all of us and our sympathy goes out to Tina and the boys and all the rest of the family. John suffered with his health for many years with arthritis but he never complained and just got on with life. It is hard to believe that we sat down with John at a committee meeting only the previous Monday when he was his usual jovial self and now he has gone but he will most certainly not be forgotten. Certainly Sunday lunchtime and visits to the cricket at Taunton will never be the same without his company. With two more wins under our belts we continue our climb up the table. The victories over Sidmouth at home and at Plymouth Marjons away were both comfortable in the end although we did struggle to come to terms with the all weather pitch at Marjons before taking control of the game in the second half We will be on the road again on 1st February when we travel to Torpoint. On that day the Reserves will be at home to Dawlish United. The Club would like to thank Ron Partridge for sponsoring today’s game. That brings me to an appeal on behalf of our Club to anyone out there who might like to become involved. We are desperate for more helpers, whether it be on match days or helping with the running of the Club. If you would like to know more please give me a ring on 07740 168072. Enjoy the game. Marcus, Secretary
Manager Liam reflects on the Plymouth Marjons game and looks forward to today’s clash with Millbrook.
I must start by saying how upset myself and all of the players are at the sudden loss of John “Clack” Chambers this week. He truly was a Cullompton legend and
the world will be a sadder place without him. Our thoughts are with Christina and the family at this very sad time. Well we were rubbish for the first 30 minutes against Marjons last Saturday and could easily have been a couple of goals down before we grabbed two goals to give us some breathing space. After a few harsh words at half time we took a firm grip on the game and ran out comfortable winners in the end. Today we take on a Millbrook side which sit just one place above us and we will leapfrog them today with a victory. I know we have had a couple of games recently against teams at the bottom of the League so today should give us some idea of how much we have improved over recent weeks.”

About Cullompton RangersCullompton Rangers FC began life in 1945 and originally played in the East Devon Victory League. The initial headquarters for the Club were the Cullompton School Playing Fields, but they soon moved to Speeds Meadow, their current base and were there for a short time before moving to land adjoining the M5 motorway. Next stop was the area known as Knightswood, and then, Court Drive, before a return to their current home. The Club badge depicts the business’s which were prominent in the town at the time the Club was formed, namely a ropes works, glove makers and a woollen factory.
The most successful era for the Club was the early 1960’s when the Senior Side swept all before them winning the Devon & Exeter League Premier Division in both 1961 and 1964 but it was not until 1984 that real success was enjoyed by the Club once again, winning the East Devon Senior Cup under the management of Marcus Scott, the current Club Secretary. The standard of the First Team has improved steadily over the years and the Club became founder members of the Devon County League when it began life in 1992.
The Club has moved with the times as the Devon League was replaced by the South West Peninsula League in 2007 and Rangers have been members of the Premier League ever since. Floodlights were installed in 1998 which allowed the club to enter the FA Vase and latterly the FA Cup. During the late spring of 2010 magnificent new changing rooms were completed at a cost of £220,000.
During the past 12 months we have carried out extensive improvements at Edenvale Park installing new perimeter fencing and also investing £40k on new drainage with the help of grants from Viridor and the Football Foundation. We are extremely fortunate to have our own Supporter’s Club who continue to make a fantastic contribution to the smooth running of the Club.
There have been numerous managers in charge of playing matters at the Club over the last decade. At the turn of the century they were managed by former Exeter City player Ray Pratt who finished runners up with his team in 1997/8 and again in the following season.
Other managers in recent seasons have been Phil Margrett’s who led the team to a Throgmorton Cup Final. Since Phil we have seen Steve Rowlands,
Jason Rees, Richard Pears and Lee Annunziata at the helm before the current manager Peter Buckingham picked up the reins in the Summer of 2010, he was then joined for the 2011/12 campaign by Richard Pears who returned to the Club. Peter stood down at the end of that season and Rangers then appointed Plymouth based Dane Bunney with Tony Ali as his assistant. At the start of 2013 Dane stood down and was replaced by Mike Taylor who joined us after a successful spell managing Witheridge. Tony left the Club at the end of the season and his role was taken over by Ray Pryse.
For the start of the 2014/5 campaign James Ward was at the helm with his assistant Paul Short. James enjoyed a successful playing career at Yeovil Town and managed Tiverton Town for a short spell. Unfortunately James had to finish his short stint at the Club who then appointed first team captain Dan Kenyon with Liam Raybould as his Number 2. Rangers went on to finish a creditable 12th. That season Dan added Matthew Scott and Liam Raybould to his backroom staff. Dan stood down at Christmas 2015 due to work commitments and his two lieutenants took over until the end of the season. We were then very fortunate to recruit Hedley Steele as our manager who is vastly experienced in local football having served his apprenticeship at Bickleigh, Exmouth and Willand Rovers. In his first full season in charge the management team led us to a very creditable 9th position in what is a very competitive league but after only five games into the new season Hedley resigned and was replaced by Liam with Matthew as his assistant and they will continue in their roles for the current season after an excellent campaign in 2018/9 which saw us finish 8th in the League as well as reaching two cup semi finals.
Following a season without a Reserve team the Club will once again be entering a team in the Devon & Exeter League.
We also have our own Women’s Team as well as hosting fixtures for Exeter City Women.
There is also a thriving junior set up with teams from age 7 to 15.
Finally the Club would like to place on record their thanks to Steve and Mel of Edenvale Turf(SW) Ltd for being our main sponsors once again this season.
