M.A.T.A. News
AUGUST 15, 2014
Jeff Douglas, the President of CMC, will be attending the September Board Meeting on Thursday, September 25, 2014. He will be prepared to answer appropriate questions from homeowners and residents during the open portion of the meeting.
Beginning in September, MATA will incorporate a
“Classified” section in the monthly newsletter. The
Communication Committee is working with the Board in
developing the plan for both implementing and
maintaining a classified section for our residents’ use.
MATA CLASSIFIED ADSThe Seller may provide their contact information (i.e. phone,
email address) for publication. Unless the seller specifically
indicates that their contact info may be published, Buyers will
be directed to respond to the ‘classified’ email address and
MATA will pass the Buyer information to the Seller via email.
The email address will be: [email protected] .
This address is both the contact point for submitting ads and
for responding to ads.The Seller must be a MATA resident and provide the
Communication Committee with complete contact
information—this information will be held for three
months and then destroyed. The Seller will submit the
wording for the ad with a photo if desired. The description
should not exceed 75 words and must include the selling
price, e.g., a set price, best offer, or free. More than one
item may be included in an ad but only one photo will be
published. The wording will be included in the Newsletter
as written by the Seller, and the Committee will not edit
the text other than ensuring the font type is consistent
with other sections of the newsletter.

Southside with her parents,
Mike and Debbie, and sister
Lacey. She has a new adopted sister named
MaryClaire who is a Puggle. Her favorite thing
is eating, playing with her purple Barney doll
and hiding from MaryClaire who likes to jump her.
She hates getting her nails clipped and medicine.

Basically, this ordinance says that ANY dog that is aggressive must
be identified and controlled by the Owner, who has the
responsibility to protect others from any harm that may be caused
by ownership of a violent dog. The MATA Board continues to
conform to this ordinance. American Pit Bull Terrier
Several neighbors have approached Board members asking "What is the Board doing about the Pit Bulls in the
neighborhood?" What is a pit bull? A pit bull is an American Pit Bull Terrier. People confuse pit bull with the
Staffordshire Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier and Bull Terrier. The American Pit Bull Terrier is a very
specific breed, and most dogs that people call "Pit Bull" are not pit bulls.
Several years ago, the Board approved a revision to the Rules and
Regulations stating that MATA would adhere to the guidelines
enforced by the City of Houston pertaining to pet ownership.
Houston’s ordinance on dangerous dogs is at: Houston, Texas, Code of Ordinances >> ‐ CODE OF ORDINANCES >>
Chapter 6 ‐ ANIMALS AND FOWL >> ARTICLE VI. DANGEROUS,
AGGRESSIVE, AND PUBLIC NUISANCE DOGS >> .
The City of Houston has banned smoking in Houston’s public parks, golf courses and pools effective next month
as announced by Parks and Recreation Department Director Joe Turner. The new policy affects all 365 developed
parks facilities and also includes golf courses, pools, and 42 libraries. A city ordinance already ban smoking within
25 feet of a public facility, places of employment, bars and restaurants and at outdoor sports arenas and
stadiums. An individual failing to comply may face a citation up to $2,000.
The MATA Board of Directors has implemented a less stringent policy now in effect. At the June 26th Board
Meeting, a resolution was unanimously passed to change the Rules & Regulations, which designates the pool
area and a 20 foot perimeter around the pool area as a non‐smoking area. Signs to that affect have been posted.
MATA has created a referrals page for its Website. The vendors identified on this page are provided by residents of MATA only and are published for specific services such as plumbers, kennels, vets, etc., in which the residents have had a positive experience.
If interested, please provide a short write-up (75 words or less) and a copy of a business card if available. This is a free service to our community. The MATA Board of Directors, its Property Manager, and the Communication Committee cannot warrant, endorse or accept any liability for the content of the "Referral Page" or for the consequences of any actions taken on the basis of the information provided.
MATA reserves the right to reject any ad at its discretion at any time. For our residents who wish to contribute a referral, please send the information to:
[email protected] . The web page
address is: http://memorialashford.com/referral.htm .

DOGS AT MATA
AUGUST'S
PET OF THE MONTH"BUBBLES"
Dogs should be on leashes at all times in public areas. A
resident was recently walking his leashed dog. Another
resident opened her gate to take a dog to the car. The
dog walked out into the car port, unleashed and
attacked the man and leashed pet. This is unacceptable
behavior, and residents should control their pets at all
times.
