MasticTears Classic is a sophisticated liqueurdistilled from tree resin found on thebeautiful island of Chios, Greece.Exceptionally balanced taste with asweetness that caresses the palate and a pleasant lingering aftertaste.
Mastic has been harvested in Chios forover 2,500 years. The first mention of mastic “tears” was by Hippocrates, whoused mastic for the prevention of digestiveproblems, colds and as a breath freshener.Roman emperors used mastic along withhoney, pepper and egg in the spiced wine“conditum paradoxum”.

The ground around the tree trunk isweeded and the soil is cleansed and leveledso that any mastic “tears” that fall on to the ground can be easily gathered. The “kentima”, as the carving of small scars onthe bark is called, is done with the help of asmall, sharp metal tool with grooved ends.Mastic is gathered before the first autumnrain. It is sieved and diligently cleaned witholive oil, mild natural soap and rain water.Large and medium sized mastic tears arecleaned one by one with a needle or smallknife.
