MAZEINDIE EXPRESSBREAKOUT This is the name that I have chosen. It almost works as a metaphor as the content included within my magazine is all exclusive information that no other magazine has access too. For this reason the readers have the capability to metaphorically get lost in the articles included. I feel as this is effective as it is not a conventional name, thus will grab the readers attention.Indie express conveys the idea that information/gossip is passed from us to the reader as quickly as possible. However I felt as if this was almost predictable, and therefore unoriginal as it has no hidden meaning. Furthermore it could be seen as copying NME as their original name was New Music Express. Additionally this name was not successful for them, and so it would hard to build a new reputation upon that name.Vinyl, in relation to vinyl records. As a music genre Indie is extremely individual in the way that it looks at music, the fans almost look for a hidden meaning without realising, for this reason Vinyl is a traditional element to the music industry and therefore without it the music industry would not have been able to expand as dramatically as it has. However I did not feel the meaning was as strong as Maze. The majority of Indie fans are rather quite and content, therefore music for them is a way to express how they really feel, whether it be happy or sad. This could be viewed as them Breaking out . Unfortunately I felt as if this could be taken as offensive, as its almost creating a stereotype of the genres fan, and thus does not account for everyone.mAZEThis was my final masthead design, I made the decision that this was most effective as it almost carries the same idea that Q uses with the single letter name. However this just has one letter much larger than the rest. I then included the purple background to go with my colour scheme, effectively this has the ability to change each issue if needed. The fact that the masthead is not landscape also means that I will not have the issue of the main image covering the masthead, it will always be visible making it more and more recognisable.MAZEThis was another masthead that I considered, however I felt as if the marble effect was rather old fashioned, and so the readers may hold the impression that the information inside is out dated and so now irrelevant. Also the colour scheme would be limited as the marble effect almost acts as a gradient which almost creates an unprofessional finish. I wouldnt be able to add two additional colours onto the front page as there is already three; white, black, and grey, for this reason I chose not to go with this particular masthead. Additionally because it is landscape I would have had an issue with the main image covering parts of the name, and therefore it would make it harder for the readers to recognise the music magazine on a newsstand.MAZEImpact bold, this is a typical font used for sell lines and cover lines, for this reason I felt as if it was too basic to be apart of my masthead design. Although it is extremely bond it would be hard for the reader to miss I dont feel it would have a dramatic impact on them to make them want to make the purchase. Contrastingly, maybe for a film magazine this would work, but with Indie everything needs to be original and unique in order to ensure that the audiences attention is captured. This particular masthead would be viewed as too mainstream and thus would not be as successful as I wish for it to be.
