Past President Mike Snode offered an invocation. News at Noon with George Hiotis George reported on the ongoing homicide investigation of a homeless man in downtown Zanesville. ZPD is looking for leads into the man who was killed by blunt force trauma and set on fire in front of an area church. The Ohio smoke free work place program has been considered a success. 22,000 chickens are dead in an electrical fire in Northern Ohio. No word on whether FOWL-PLAY is suspected. The Sarge Sergeant/Sherriff Tori Thomas decided with all of the stress of the recent elections that she would take it easy and bring some fun to the members. She only fined those who were not wearing a Rotary pin and then led us in a game of Mad-Libs. All in all it was pretty tame, except for the part about the florescent plunger for Browns fans!! We had a couple of pretty impressive Whoop it up moments as Mollie Crooks celebrated her election as Muskingum County Commissioner and April Gibson was honored as a Home Town Hero in Education!! Congratulations, Ladies!! I am, and we are, proud of you both!! Announcements Please plan to attend the annual children’s Christmas party to be held at Adornetto’s on December 13th. Shala Zemba, the Chair of the committee will be announcing dates for shopping if you would like to help. The Rotary Club of Newark has invited all Zanesville Rotarians to join them on Saturday, December 10th for their Centennial Celebration. Tickets are $70 and the guest speaker is our Rotary International President. Have you heard about our new committee? The Hospitality Committee has been formed to engage new Rotarians and to keep us informed about sick Rotarians and other important events in the lives of our fellow Rotarians. Past President Rob Guentter is chair of this newly formed committee. SELL, SELL, SELL. 12 Days before Christmas tickets are available and we need everyone out selling. This brings in much needed funds for all of our community projects. The November 29th social has been cancelled in order to accommodate a wonderful program on the Honor Flight program. Don’t miss this one!! This is the last week to order your Rotary shirts. Short sleeve is $20 and long sleeve is $25. Also remember to turn in your Rotary engagement hours to President Jim. Program President Jim introduced our very own Rotarian, Dr. Susan Hasseler as our guest speaker for the afternoon. Dr. Hasseler is four months on the job now as the new president of Muskingum University. On July 1, 2016, she took over as the 21st president of the University, which has around 1300 residential undergraduate students and is proud to serve an additional 1500 graduate and continuing education students. The University offers undergrads Bachelor’s in Arts (BA), Science (BS) and Nursing (BSN) in 60 majors. Their BSN program recently was one of only six programs in the State to have 100% of their nursing graduates pass the licensing exam on their first attempt. The Graduate program offers Master’s in Teaching (MAT) and in Information Strategy, Systems and Technology (MISST) as well as continuing education for many adult learners. The Muskingum Adult Program (MAP) offers 20 majors. Dr. Hasseler says that at Muskingum, “We educate the whole person, for the whole world.” Everything that is done at Muskingum aims to educate the student from class work to athletics to the many social aspects of the University. She answers the question of “Why Muskingum?”, with what she considers their four signature advantages. First is affordability as U.S. News recently named Muskingum University as #5 out of 171 Midwestern Regional Universities in affordability and “Best Value” educational institutions. Second is the power of small and student – focused education. The average class size at Muskingum
