The National Credit Regulator (NCR), in partnership with the Credit Ombud is urging all consumers to know their credit status as part of World Consumer Rights Month.

World Consumer Rights Day takes place on March 15.

The NCR’s theme for the March 2014 campaign is “Know your credit status”.

The NCR together with the Credit Ombud have embarked on a drive to educate and inform consumers about the importance of knowing their credit status.

“Every person who has an account in the country with a credit or service provider, who makes use of credit bureau services, will fi nd the information about their account recorded with a credit bureau irrespective of whether that person pays their account regularly or not. This means that credit bureaus hold both“The purpose of listing the information collectively at the credit bureaus is to create a comprehensive view of the consumer for both prospective and existing credit and service providers to assist them in the evaluation of credit or account applications and also to assist in the management of their relationship with their customers”, explains Lesiba Mashapa: Company Secretary at the NCR.

Statistics show that out of 20.29 million credit active consumers, only 164,437 credit reports were issued to consumers at their request during the quarter ended September 2013. It further states that 77.0% (126,591) were issued without charge, and the remaining 23.0% (37,846) were issued with charge.

Mashapa reminds consumers that under the National Credit Act (NCA), they are entitled to one free credit report annually from all 13 registered credit bureaus. “Should a consumer require an additional copy of his or her credit report within the same year, there will be a cost not exceeding R20.00 excluding Vat.” He further advised consumers that in terms of the NCA, they have the right

to access and challenge the information on their credit records held by the credit bureaus if they believe that it is not accurate.

“When challenging the credit bureau record, the consumer needs to contact the credit bureau that issued the credit report. The credit bureau has 20 business days to investigate the matter, says Mashapa.

Credit Ombud Manie van Schalkwyk says if the consumer is not satisfi ed with the outcome from the credit bureau investigation or they do not have an answer after waiting for 20 business days for the bureau to assist them, they should escalate the matter to the Credit Ombud’s offi ce where they will receive assistance free of charge. However, consumers need to have a reference number from the credit bureau, he adds.

“The Offi ce of the Credit Ombud resolves complaints from consumers and businesses that are negatively impacted by credit information as well as complaints relating to non-bank credit agreements”, says Van Schalkwyk. Examples of credit report related matters that can be escalated to the Credit Ombud’s offi ce include: Complaints about incorrect or outdated listings on their credit profi le; Complaints about unfair listings, as well as instances of fraud or ID theft; and Complaints about consumer account information not being updated accurately.

The removal of adverse consumer credit information and information relating to paid up judgment regulations shall come into effect on 01 April. “This means that adverse consumer credit information, details and results of disputes lodged by consumers irrespective of the outcome of such disputes will be automatically removed from the credit bureau records.” “However, consumers who have judgments against their names need to settle the judgment debt before the judgment listing will be removed from the credit bureau records”, stressed Mashapa.

Deputy director for public employment services in the department , Joyce Mathume, as the department they have responsibility to help government in creating employment opportunities.

“We have used our reliable Employment Services of South Africa (ESSA) system to search for 40 qualifi ed jobseekers per region and we have handed their names to MICT Seta,” Mathume said.

She said that MICT Seta will follow their own selection processes to choose their best 25 out of the 40 that we have provided in various regions to attend the one year long learnership program.

Mathume said added that 70 percent of the people selected for the opportunity are job-seekers who have contributed to the Unemployment Insurance (UI) before and the other 30 percent are ordinary jobseekers in the department’s database

INTERNET: School learners search the internet during career guidance exhibiti on at Nkowankowa Community Hall last week.

EXPO: Some of the learners att ending a career guidance exhibiti on.

Career guidance exhibition held

Youth development organization, Vantshwa Va Xivono successfully hosted their fourth career guidance exhibition for Grade 11 and 12 at Nkowankowa Community Hall last week.

This year the exhibition was even attended by schools outside of Ritavi circuit such as Phangasasa because of the great information they received about the expo. “Technologically we still say at VVX that we lead the way since we even help students locate career information and application forms otherwise not present at the hall via the internet,” said Samuel Ntsan’wisi the chairperson of VVX.

Magezi Maluleke a well-known career guidance specialist with a Master’s degree in Geology once again for the fourth year in a row graced us with his presence and brought other friends with high qualifi cations which inspired the students to work very hard.

Jeffrey Shisinga, VVX member currently studying towards his master’s degree in Germany was also back to share with the learners.

The rest of the Vantshwa Va Xivono crew were also there to give the learners valuable information and with the IT expertise within the organization we were able to connect to

the internet and help the learners with more information.

Learners also got to meet the VVX crew and also learn that they are not just talented people who do interesting things but also have good qualifi cations or are still pursuing those.

Course guides and application forms for both Grade 11 and 12 from the University of Johannesburg, University of Pretoria and Wits University were available and no learner went home without one.

The organization was also graced with the presence of a representative from African women chartered accountants (AWCA) who also encouraged to pursue a career in accounting.

More than 15 learners on the day were given opportunities to go for a one week visit to companies dealing with the fi eld of interest of the careers that the learners want to venture into.

“To have schools from outside of our circuit visiting shows that the career expo its growing and is highly valued especially that now we will be doing an extra two career expos one being in Khujwana and one in the Bjatladi Ga Mamabolo area,” said Samuel Ntsan’wisi.

SPORTS MOPANI HERALD Friday March 21, 2014 7

The highly anticipated Kaizer Letsoalo Games (KLG) Soccer League games kick-off this long weekend at various sports facilities.

The matches will be played at Lephepane, Khujwana, Thlabine, Bokgaga, Rita, Tickeyline, Motlhatlareng and Ga-Rakoma villages.

It will be the fi rst time that two tough divisions of the league are staged in this area. The KLG Soccer League introduces the Premier and Super League divisions this year, following a two-stream league last year. The top 16 teams from last year’s overall log standings will campaign in the KLG Premier division while new and the bottom ones will contest in the KLG Super division.

According to the organisers, a total of 34 teams have joined the KLG Sport this year. According to the a dministrator of the KLG Soccer League, Trilly Mogoboya, new teams in the books of the league include Mahlogwe United, Napsom, Bokgaga Juventus, Khujwana Bagdad, Bahlabine, Rita All Stars, Mmaphala Peter United, Moime Celtic and Moime Liverpool.

These newcomers will contest in the Super League alongside the likes of MM Super Stars, Monatic, Rakoma, Carling, Mighty Birds, Mamogalefa, Mokomotji Highlanders and GP United.

Already, tongues are wagging about the potential of the Super League to provide the

ever-enthusiastic fanatics of the KLG Soccer League to create an exciting, fantastic and fabulous vibe expected from the KLG Soccer League.

The presence of unknown, new teams is an added spice to the Super League. One of the most anticipated clashes is the Moime derby featuring Liverpool and Celtic, Carling and Bahlabine, as well as the Rakoma battle involving Rakoma and Mmaphala Peter Unted. “I think the Super League will offer huge excitement as most teams campaigning there are a closed book to each other,” said Mogoboya.

Mogoboya said the Premier League is a collection of the so-called “big guns” and promises to revive old scars as most historical derbies are housed in this division.

The followers of the KLG Soccer League are salivating about the prospect of the clashes between Khopho All Stars and Manamela Naughty Boys, Real Madrid and Khujwana Classic, Ramalema Cosmos and Leswika Classic, Bubs v African Buffaloes as well as Royal Celtic and Mogoboya Junior Chiefs.

“We are staging a historical football spectacle this year. We are confi dent that the giants participating in the KLG Premier league will get our supporters hooked to the game the whole year,” said the chairman of the KLG Soccer League, Marupine Sape.
