Sir Robert Akenhead was called to the Bar in 1972 and practiced from what is now Atkin Chambers from 1973 until 2007. He was made a QC in 1989 and was a recorder from 1991. In 2007 he was made a High Court Judge sitting in the Queen's Bench Division and in particular in the TCC. From September 2010 for three years he was the judge in charge of the TCC.

His practice as a barrister was almost exclusively in construction and engineering and he was involved in numerous cases in the Official Referees' Court, now the TCC, as well as in arbitration. His work took him all over the world to places such as Hong Kong, Singapore and many parts of Europe with the most memorable trips being too Fiji, Australia, South Africa, Indonesia and the West Indies.

He is the author of several books, Site Investigation and the Law and Technology and Construction Court Practice and Procedure as well as being, since 1999, a joint editor of the Building Law Reports.

Justice Sir David Steel was appointed as a Judge of the DIFC Courts in 2011.

Prior to this, Justice David Steel served as a Judge of the High Courts on the Queen’s Bench Division from 1998 onwards. Justice David Steel was appointed as Judge of the Commercial Court and an Admiralty Judge from 1998 onwards. He also served as a Judge in charge of the Commercial Court in the High Court of London from 2006 to 2008 having been the presiding Judge of the Western Circuit from 2002 to 2006.

In 1981, he had been appointed as Queen’s Counsel and from then on served as a member on the Panel of Lloyd’s Salvage Arbitrators. He is now the Appeal Arbitrator. He had earlier been a Wreck Commissioner for England and Wales until 1998. Sir David Steel also was a member of the Lord Chancellor’s Advisory Committee on Legal Education and Conduct from 1991 to 1997. More recently, Sir David Steel chaired the European Commercial Judges Forum.

Mr. Lofthouse is a member of Commercial Bar Association as well as Technology and Construction Bar Association; He is a registered adjudicator. Mr. Lofthouse is widely recognised as a leading domestic and international lawyer with particular expertise in construction, energy and natural resources and professional negligence. He is particularly experienced in the presentation and conduct of complex cases, especially those involving contractual interpretation, allegations of professional negligence issues including defective design, delay analysis, expert determinations and final accounts. The range of disputes covered is extensive, examples include large commercial developments both domestically and internationally (new-build and refurbishment) complex infrastructure works, including track installation, repair and upgrading, IT systems and installations, powers station disputes (both as to construction and operation), waste and water treatment technology, oil and gas platforms, piling operations onshore and offshore, construction of roads and ships, PFI’s, PPP’s, pipe laying, tunnels, pumping stations, coastal defences and effluent and airport terminals. His experience spans the range of different forums including mediation, adjudication, expert determination, domestic and international arbitration and commercial Court litigation. Much of his work is international in nature and throughout his career he has advised on and appeared as advocate in disputes in Europe, Africa, the Caribbean, the Middle East (he is qualified to practice in the DIFC, Dubai), and across Asia. He has been appointed by the ICC both as Arbitrator and as Legal and Dispute Resolution Expert.

Peter Shaw has 30 years of experience of all aspects of construction, projects and engineering law, having acted for clients in all sectors of the construction industry. He also sits as an arbitrator, mediator/conciliator and adjudicator. Peter has acted for clients in both transactional and contentious matters in Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, China, Dubai, Fiji, Germany, the Indian Sub-Continent, Italy, Jordan, Malaysia, Morocco, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sharjah, Singapore, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand and the United Kingdom. Peter is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, a trained mediator listed by the Technology and Construction Court Solicitors' Association in the UK and a member of the UK Society of Construction Law and a committee member of the Society of Construction Law (Gulf). Peter is a listed arbitrator accredited by the Dubai International Arbitration Centre and the London Court of International Arbitration, DIFC-LCIA Arbitration Centre, ADCCAC and the ICC. For the last six years Peter has been listed by Chambers Global in Band 1 of leading construction dispute resolution lawyers with entries such as the quote you already have and "Peter Shaw is widely acclaimed for his vast experience of construction disputes, as well as acting as arbitration counsel. He is frequently engaged as an arbitrator. He graduated from University of Lancaster, 1971, B.A., (Hons) and The College of Law, 1974, He has been a Solicitor since 1980 (Senior Courts of England and Wales).

Ian Dalley is dual-qualified as an English solicitor and a professional engineer. He specialises in major international engineering projects and related matters such as public procurement, long-term supply agreements, concessions and operations and maintenance. As well as undertaking project structuring, contract drafting and negotiation, he has a wealth of experience of resolving disputes, in particular their effective early management in order to avoid reaching formal proceedings. He has been involved in wide variety of arbitrations including ad hoc, ICC, LCIA, UNCITRAL and ICSID, and his panel memberships includes LCIA (including DIFC), DIAC, CIArb, IET, KLRCA, ADCCAC and HKIAC. He is also a CEDR accredited mediator. Ian has lived and breathed FIDIC in the Middle East for over eight years and his work has included sole legal responsibility for drafting and negotiating a FIDIC-based contract with an Accepted Contract Amount in excess of USD 3 Billion. His experience as an international arbitrator also includes FIDIC-based matters, including one with a sum in dispute in excess of USD 100m. Ian is a Chartered Arbitrator, Fellow and course director with the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. He is also a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of the Institute of Engineering and Technology and a Fellow of the Energy Institute. He is "Highly regarded" in the Legal 500 Directory 2015.

Craig Shepherd has rights of audience at the courts of the Dubai International Financial Centre, advising generally on disputes in finance, construction, telecommunications and corporate acquisitions. Chambers Global 2012 states that Craig is ‘lauded by clients and peers for his extensive industry experience.’ Craig advises on all forms of dispute resolution, and represents clients in domestic and international arbitrations arising out of international commercial transactions. He has extensive experience in infrastructure and energy projects in Asia and the Middle East. From 1995 to 2006, Craig worked at the firm’s Hong Kong office, where he headed the construction and arbitration group in the region. From 2002 to 2006, Craig was listed in the Legal 500 Asia Pacific as a leading individual in dispute resolution.
