The American SoundSaturdays at 6pm & Tuesdays at 7pm with Jennifer Hambrick

In March, The American Sound celebrates Women’s History Month with a special series spotlighting the stories and performances of some of America’s finest women conductors. We’ll enjoy a world-premiere recording by the trailblazing JoAnn Falletta, an American masterpiece conducted by Marin Alsop and a gorgeous performance led by the adventuresome Jeri Lynne Johnson whose Philadelphia-based Black Pearl Chamber Orchestra plays to sell-out crowds. And at the tail end of winter, we’ll warm up with Eric Whitacre’s beautiful Five Hebrew Love Songs and relax by the fire with Edward MacDowell’s Fireside Tales.

Great Performances at The Met: Il Barbiere di SivigliaTuesday, March 24 at 8pm on WOSU PlusThe Met’s effervescent production of Rossini’s classic comedy—featuring some of the most instantly recognizable melodies in opera—stars Isabel Leonard as the feisty Rosina, Lawrence Brownlee as her conspiring flame and Christopher Maltman as the endlessly resourceful and charming barber himself. Michele Mariotti conducts the vivid and tuneful score. “Lawrence Brownlee makes a dashing Almaviva, singing with a focused, ardent tenor.” (The New York Times)
