Our comprehensive Master of Music (MM) in music education online program offers three pedagogical emphases that help instrumental, choral and general music teachers develop their professional skills. The program is differentiated from others in that it is practitioner-oriented, specializing in the application of history and theory in contemporary music education.

61172 Analytical Techniques II Aural and visual analysis of music from the nineteenth through twenty-first centuries, with an emphasis on Germanic Romanticism. Study includes aspects of style as related through form, harmony, counterpoint, and orchestration.

63198 Capstone Project Working under the supervision of a capstone advisor, students synthesize knowledge through the development of a curricular project

applicable to the student’s area of teaching. 3 credits.

How to apply for the Master of Music in music

education online program.

To apply to the school of music students must supply the following:

• Three letters of recommendation from persons familiar with the applicant’s academic background, musicianship and teaching effectiveness. For prospective music education students, the letter should provide evidence of successful teaching experience, academic ability and professionalism.

• A resume of educational and professional achievements in the field of music attached to a cover letter indicating future career goals.

• A teaching certificate or licensure from one of the 50 states in the U.S.

• Official transcripts from each college or university, with nine or more semester hours earned.

• Bachelor’s degree in music education from an accredited institution. It must also adhere to the general guidelines for undergraduate competencies in music theory, music history, music performance, conducting, ensemble participation and music education preparation as established by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM).

• A minimum music GPA of 3.0 (B average) and at least 2.77 (B-minus average) overall.

• Although not required, formal music teaching experience in public or private school systems is desired.

• The current application fee is $100.
