The Master Course in User Experience promotes a user centered design of ICT, based on the observation of users’ interaction with technological tools in real contexts, where their real needs, practices and emotions are in place and lead their activities in everyday life.

The design perspective moves from the conception of people as “Human Factors” to “Human Actors” (Bannon, 1991). People are not conceived anymore as passive end-users in a human-machine dependence, rather as actors performing in speci!c situations, who select, adapt and shape interactive patterns with digital artifacts on the base of their speci!c goals and interpretations.

GOALSThe MasterUX aims at developing:

• Knowledge and methods for analyzing User Experience in ICT-based tools implementation;• Groupwork in multidisciplinary teams !nalized to students’ project work;• Competences fostering User Experience Design in ICT-based products and services, for analysing

Market trends, for project management and product development.

TRAININGThe MasterUX offers both theoretical and empirical knowledge and competences on 4 different areas:

1. User Experience: theoretical and methodological approaches from disciplines such as social psychology and cultural anthropology, where research concepts are complemented by the expertise by practitioners. Methods are applied to understand social actors in order to shape the design process on the basis of their needs and contextual requirements.

2. Cognitive Ergonomics: theoretical and applied research on cognitive functioning in real context mediated by technologies. A special focus is devoted to Information Architecture and its impact on ICT design.

3. Design: a) Strategic Design: de!ning and describing the requests from social contexts and from sustainable development; b) Communication Design: methods and tools for developing visual

communication of ICT-based services and products; c) Design for All: understanding the physical, sensorial and cognitive requirements of different target groups in order to ensure fruition by a wide audience by designing adaptive and "exible technologies.

4. Interactive Systems: technical skills and theoretical background in the !eld of interactive ICT systems, with special reference on User Experience Design.

TEACHING/LEARNING ACTIVITIESThe MasterUX includes two teaching modalities:

THEORY-IN-PRACTICE TRAINING:In order to widen and update knowledge and competences in an integrated way, theoretical lectures are complemented by expert practitioners helping students to put theory in practice.

WORKSHOPS: Students will apply their knowledge during workshops by participating to laboratories where researchers and representatives from enterprises will help them developing in multidisciplinary groups the project works starting from meaningful missions suggested by partners.

MODULES:1/USER EXPERIENCE2/COGNITIVE ERGONOMICS3/STRATEGIC DESIGN4/COMMUNICATION DESIGN5/DESIGN FOR ALL6/INTERACTIVE SYSTEMS7/USER EXPERIENCE DESIGN (workshops)8/USER CENTERED DESIGN (workshops)9/INTERACTION DESIGN (workshops)

Each module ends with an evaluation procedure to assess the competences gained by students.

The last section of the MasterUX Course is devoted to the collective project work, where enterprises will assign speci!c missions to students. The project work is developed in small groups of student under the supervision of teachers and experts from the enterprises.

The certi!cate will be issued after a public discussion on the project work.
