How do you feel about the women in the poem? Why?

    1. State your opinion. I feel that the women in the poem are independent.

    2. Annotate the poem, identifying evidence to support youropinion.

    3. Select a piece of evidence that supports your opinion andwrite a PEEL paragraph.

    i. POINT: The women are independent because they are able toearn their own living and manage people.ii. EXPLANATION/ EXAMPLE: In the first stanza, the narrator says

that the women manage people instead of concede theirlives to men. This means that the women are leadingindependent lives when they do not sacrifice their lives to dohousehold chores and please their husbands. Instead, they

earn their own living by working in the corporate world andmanaging people.

iii. LINK: Therefore, they do not need to depend on anyone elsefor a living, are independent, and even exercise power whenthey manage people.
