TARTAVALLE THERMAE CENTRELOCATION _ LECCO (ITALY)

The new building, spa and wellness cen-ter will arise in a valley at the feet of the Lombard alps, an area enclosed betwe-en the Bevera river and the mountains.The main goal of the project is to incre-ase the tourism by making the most of natural thermal lakes, already present on the territory.

The idea was that of a building with sim-ple and linear traits, made of two volu-mes which intersect one another at a planimetric level, so that it can be rightly placed in the center of the green area connecting different parts of the area.

The two main bodies of the building contain all the services offered at the wellness center. The internal spa-ces as well as the wellness ‘walks’

have been thought on the framework of the antic Romans, who were at the a-vanguard of thermal treatments.

Inside the building one can find thermal basins, cold water tubs for the treatment of certain cardiovascular diseases, cold rooms, sauna, Turkish bath, steam ro-oms, massage areas and swimming pool with the correlated activities.

Great emphasis has been placed on the use of innovative materials and the chro-matic impact, in particular for the exter-nal coating I choose wood which is great in a natural environment such as this, in relation to wood I choose Corten for the external cover and for other vertical details, I used glass for big and smaller windows and huge openings.

MULTIRESIDENTIAL BUILDINGLOCATION _ MILAN (ITALY)

The project arises from the need to rea-lize a building with modern systems and innovative materials with particular em-phasis on the ‘energy saving’ in order to find a solution to the increasing demand of residential buildings in the suburbs of Milan of average costs.The settlement is located in a suburban area characterized by buildings realized between the 60s and the 80s with a con-sequent well regulated and clearly well defined urban plan.

The request was to create a building which could accommodate between the 12 and 16 residential units.

The proposed building is a project with a ‘stecca’ model, the linear and com-pact frame facilitates the North- South

disposition of its two long sides with a consequent ideal internal disposition of the residential units.

It is developed on four levels/floors, the ground floor is kept for business activi-ties whilst the remaining three floors are designed for residency; the entire buil-ding accommodates 12 flats of different dimensions so that to answer to the di-verse demands of the commission.

For what concerns the design I wanted to catch back and rework the architec-tural style peculiar of the north of Italy, with particular emphasis on the Milane-se area, by the utilize of the ‘cotto’ ma-terial for the external coating remarking the framework (which characterized the Italian architecture of the 40s and 50s)

with a diverse chromatic tonality, remar-king the compositional rhythm of the building.

The main aspects are different one ano-ther, the side facing south is open and rich of lodges and balconies securing the abundance of sun light during the win-ter months and shading during summer months. The northern side is more clo-sed and isolated so that it can better pre-serve the right temperature and comfort inside the building.

Great emphasis has been placed on new insulating and compositional materials as well as integrative systems which utilize sunlight energy and geothermal energy

Although mobile architecture represents a frontier of limited interest within the architectural scenario, in the last cen-tury there have been several famous architects interested in it. Particularity of this type of architecture, is its ability of not leaving any trace of its passage. Its installation in a unique context creates a relationship that proves to be temporary, as it disappears by moving the building and restoring the previous situation. pe-culiar characteristics of other different types of architectures, analyzed for their portability and lightness.

The traditional nomadic architectu-re, tents in particular, has played an important role in the design of the project: the shape, in fact, follows the principles that have generated and developed the typical nomadic tents, taking advantage of the peculiar cha-racteristics of other different types of architectures, analyzed for their porta-bility and lightness. The form that derived from it is characterized by two volu-mes that intersect each other.

The first volume, the larger one, has an aerodynamic shape that allows it to be less exposed to wind and its pressure.The second volume, which is smaller, when intersecting with the first, genera-tes an opening in the upper area, which is useful to regulate the ventilation. The two volumes which constitute the form are not separated elements but they constitute a single system that is inflated evenly. The pneumatic “paral-lel membranes” structure forms a seri-es of arches to reach an organic form.
