15TH December 2019 3rd Sunday of Advent A

THEME

“Be patient…until the Lord’s coming…”

Good morning to you all once again, to our celebration of the

Eucharist/Mass. In today’s gospel, John’s disciples assure him that his waiting is rewarded: the Messiah has come; the words of the prophet are fulfilled. As we draw ever closer to Christmas, today’s readings teach us

that waiting has its own special value.

FIRST READING: Isaiah 135:1 – 6, 10

The prophet assures his people in exile that the Lord will come, the

desert will bloom and human disabilities will be healed..

SECOND READING: James 5:7 – 10

The farmer, who plants his seeds in autumn and, after early and late rains, sees the first shoots appear, is an example of patient waiting.

GOSPEL READING: Matthew 3:1 – 12

As Christians, we are Advent people, not simply in the sense that for a

few weeks each year we wait for Christ’s birth at Christmas, but rather in the sense that our whole life’s is a time of waiting, a time of

preparation, for the time when He will come again. Like John the Baptist, we are invited to go on patiently waiting and growing in

friendship with the Lord until the day when all waiting will be over, the day when we shall gaze face to face upon the one we have waited for,

the one we have longed for, the one we have sought, often unknowingly, our whole life long. .

Advent blessings to you and have a blessed week. Felise Lemi, CSsR
