MASSES FOR THE WEEK
TWENTY-FIRST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
It’s not too early!
If you have a child beginning
first grade in public school, it is time to register for Religious
Education. Diocesan guidelines require two years of instructions prior to the reception of a Sacra-
ment. If your child is already in the first grade and missed this year, call the Office of Religious Education to set up an appointment to discuss
the options.
Are you interested in being Baptized or complete your initiation by the recep-
tion of the Sacraments of Eucharist and/or Confirmation for Easter 2016?
Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults The RCIA is a process in which adults prepare themselves for the reception of the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist) through
study, discussion and discernment. Please contact the Rectory.
St. Francis of Assisi Parish Weekly Offering
Thank you for your sacrificial giving
each week. Your kind generosity helps us pay our monthly bills.
Please remember if you miss a week for any reason, try to make up for it
the following week or when you return. This is especially true on holiday weekends and during the summer months. Thank you again
for your understanding.
The Collection/Donation for the weekend:
August 15/16 Collection $ 5003.00 Replenish Parish Reserves $ 1431.00 The Assumption $ 683.00
School parents must use church
envelopes.
SUMMER WEEKLY COLLECTIONS Summer is here, please do not forget your weekly envelopes.
If you are planning to be away, please consider submitting your
summer envelopes before you leave. It is essential because
those monies are important to help us pay our summer bills
and keep our budget balanced. As you know our fiscal year
ends August 31, 2015, so it is important we have a balanced
budget.
Thank you very much for your continued sacrifices in support-
ing our parish. We could not pay our monthly bills without your generosity. I appreciate
your cooperation in this matter.
Have a peaceful, prayerful, enjoyable and safe summer!
PLEASE remember to keep the church doors closed at all times when the
air conditioning is on. Thank You.
ATTENTION SCHOOL PARENTS
In order to receive the Catholic rate for tuition, every SFA family must be registered and using Church envelopes. The suggested donation each week is $9.00. If you are not receiving Church envelopes, please stop by the rectory to register. Those families who are not registered with SFA or their own parish will be charged the non-Catholic
tuition rate.
Families who are worshiping in parishes other than SFA will receive the Catholic
rate for tuition if they use their own parish weekly envelopes.
Summer Rectory Office Hours will end Monday, September 7th Regular office hours will resume Tuesday, September 8th
SUMMER RECTORY OFFICE HOURS:
Monday – Thursday: 9:00 am to 12 noon * 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm
Friday : 9:00 am to 12 noon * 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm (NO EVENING HOURS) Saturday: 9:00 am to 2:00 pm Sunday: CLOSED Holidays: CLOSED
PARKING IN THE SCHOOL YARD
When parking in the school yard, please DO NOT park in front of the garbage
dumpsters. Those areas are not proper places to park. Thank you for your
cooperation.
ATTENTION:
Please DO NOT light the candles in Church by using another candle. One could get burned and the wax is dripping all over the candle stands creating a mess. PLEASE use the lighter. If you have trouble with the
lighter, ask for help. Thank You.
NEW LITURGICAL APPOINTMENTS
In celebrating our 85th anniversary, new liturgical appointments have
been purchased. They are as follows:
new candlesticks on either side of the tabernacle
new thurible and boat ( it holds the charcoal and the incense) These are used at funerals, benediction and special occasions.
new holy water bucket and sprinkler This is used at weddings, funerals, during the Easter Season, and other special liturgical celebrations.
4 new communion cups from the Marian Collection
If anyone would like to memorialize any of these liturgical appointments as an individual or as a group, or you may just
want to make a donation towards them, please see Msgr. Maresca.
SUMMER PRAYER
May our loving God watch over you and keep alive in your heart all that you have
learned this year. Amen.
Keep your mind on God. Remember to pray often and to celebrate your faith, at home
with your family, and at Mass with your faith family. Amen.
Keep your faith in God. Let all the joys of summer remind you of God’s goodness.
Never forget that God is always with you, no matter what. Amen.
May the God of all creation, who comes to us in Jesus, and lives among us in the Holy Spirit, keep you safe, happy, and holy this
summer and always. Amen.

Twenty-First Sunday in
Ordinary Time August 23, 2015
“Choose this day
whom you will serve.” Consider as well how you
are being called to serve the Lord! If you are discerning a
vocation to the priesthood or consecrated life, Call the
Vocation Office at (718) 827-2454 or email:
FOCUS: Following God requires commitment.
Following God is not an occasional thing. It requires a commitment
much like we see in today’s readings. Joshua calls together the tribes to
renew their covenant with God. Paul explains that the commitment
between husband and wife is the model for Christ and his Church.
Peter confesses the commitment of the Twelve to follow Christ, for he
has words of everlasting life. Perhaps today is a good day to
re-examine the level of our commit-ment to Jesus.
Be subordinate to one another out of reverence to Christ. Ephesians 5:21

Please remember your assignments. If you attend a mass and there is no altar server, feel free to come up to serve. I know that some masses have no server or one server; that’s because of vacation schedules. I tried to honor everyone’s dates. Please remember God doesn’t stop loving you during the summer, so say your prayers each day, and attend mass on the weekends. If you are traveling – www.masstimes.org – will help you find the closest Catholic Church. Thank you for your service at the altar. God Bless, Msgr. Maresca
