to prevent the
spread of
infection.
Dear Restaurant M
anagers:
The Massachusetts D
epartment of Public H
ealth is pleased to present you with the H
andwashing
Calendar. This calendar is intended to help you encourage good handw
ashing practices among
restaurant employees. It has been developed from
research conducted with certified restaurant
managers, Board of H
ealth inspectors, and food service employees across M
assachusetts. Yourneeds, thoughts, and suggestions have been used to develop this reusable illustrated calendar tohelp you teach your em
ployees about the WH
Y, WH
EN, and H
OW
of handwashing.

The Handw

of handwashing in a quick
reference, bulleted format. The Fact Sheet has been perforated for easy rem
oval, and is meant for
you to photocopy and give out to all your current employees, and to all new
employees during
training. The Fact Sheet is printed in English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Chinese.

It Up
There is a full-size 11 X 17 pullout poster in the center of each calendar that illustrates the
importance of good handw
ashing. You may w
ant to laminate the poster for extra durability. The
poster is the perfect size to be displayed in an employee break room
or near comm
only usedhandw
ashing areas in the restaurant.
3. Han

dar!
The calendar includes six handwashing illustrations that show
the WH
Y and W
HEN
of handwashing.
Each illustration has a related “handwashing m
essage” printed in both English and Spanish. Everycalendar page also has an illustrated rem
inder on HO
W to properly w
ash hands.
The calendar may be reused from
year to year OR each of the handw
ashing illustrations may be
removed from
the calendar and posted near handwashing areas in the restaurant to serve as
constant handwashing rem
inders.
We know
there is no substitute for providing good handwashing training to em
ployees, followed by
reminders to w
ash often, but we hope that you w
ill find the Handw
ashing Calendar a useful tool
to help you reinforce the importance of proper handw
ashing among your em
ployees.
