Sunday Programs - 9:45 am - 10:45 am
Childcare services are available at the POP Nursery during Sunday morning programs. Resurrection and the Afterlife in the New Testament St. Monica Room Central to our Christian faith is a belief in the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Dr. Candida Moss, noted Professor of New Testament and Early Christianity at the University of Notre Dame, helps us understand the significance of that belief. On December 20, we will discuss Gospels 2: Mark and Angelic Bodies. Facilitated by Sonya Phillips and Mike Brown.
Scripture in “Action” St. Elizabeth Room
Ever think about getting more out of church? Tired of rushing to run errands between masses? Take time for yourself - spiritually and physically! We discuss the Sunday readings including historical context, how they relate to us in present day, and seek ways to apply God’s message to our daily lives. No classes on December 20 & 27. Led by Tom & Elsbeth Germanson.
Religious Education “Be a Light in Darkness”
Life is wonderful but brief. Each day is filled with unimaginable potential. The life God invites us to, allows us to live each moment with consciousness and vibrant enthusiasm. Within each of us there is a light. It is the light of God, and when it shines it reflects not only the wonder of God but also the greatness of the human spirit. We live in difficult times. I pray that we never become fearful, but rather we turn our focus to nurturing the light within us. I hope we allow that light within us to be nourished and to grow. Darkness has one enemy that it can never defeat, and that is light. Let your light shine! As we reflect on our brief and precious lives, let us also remember that they are but a transition to a long and blissful eternity. Teresa of Avila encourages us, "Remember you have only one soul; that you have only one death to die; that you have only one life, which is short and has to be lived by you alone; and there is only one glory, which is eternal. If you do this, there will be a great many things about what you care nothing.” (Rediscover Catholicism, Matthew Kelly) Upcoming Events:
Sunday School (K3 thru GR12): Classes – Dec. 13; Jan. 10, 17, 24, 31. No classes on Dec. 20, 27 and Jan. 3 (Christmas Break)Children’s Christmas Mass – We need Angels & Shepherds (K3-GR2). See details in this bulletin.
Registration for Sunday School is on-going, please contact Megan Everett for more information, [email protected].

Stewardship: Parishioners Answering God’s Call Stewardship acts were demonstrated by the Middle School Youth Group in the parish recently. The parish was asked to
donate leftover Halloween candy which was used by the teens to bag and use in making care packages. The response was
overwhelming! Bags were delivered for an Our Lady of Guadalupe celebration, for inclusion in care packages for the
homeless during the holidays, and for shipping to deployed military units of loved ones identified on our Military Prayer
List. Please submit your stewardship story examples to [email protected]. They may be edited
for space consideration.

~ Also, thank you to those who supported the Tamale Sale. We raised almost $4,000 for Catholic Social Services. This money will go right back into the community of Birmingham for assisting those in need of direct relief, heating homes, and helping with bills, food and medications.

Vatican City (CNS)
A family that chooses to watch TV or
play with their smartphone rather than talk at
the dinner table is “hardly a family,” Pope
Francis said.
“When children at the dinner table are
glued to the computer, or the telephone and do
not listen to one another, they are not a family,
they are retired,” the pope said November 11
during his weekly general audience.
Continuing his catechetical series on
family life, the pope reflected on the theme of
togetherness, which is manifested at the
dinner table. The pope said that “to share a
meal- and not just food, but also affection,
stories, events- is a fundamental experience.”
The pope said Christians have a special
vocation to foster family togetherness. The
dinner table, he noted, is the place chosen by
Jesus to teach his disciples and where he
summarized the meaning of his death on the
cross “that nourishes true and everlasting
love.”
For this reason, the family feels “at
home” at the celebration of the Eucharist
where they bring their “experience of
togetherness and open it to the grace of a
universal coexistence, of the love of God for the
world,” he said.
