An Ongoing Mission
In his hometown synagogue, Jesus’ neighbors are amazed by his words. Nevertheless, they remind each other, “Is this not Joseph’s son?” Surely the people know who he is. The carpenter’s son. The young man who had learned in this very synagogue. The boy down the street. Conflict arises as Jesus begins to define himself in a new way. When he compares himself to the ancient prophets Elijah and Elisha, the tensions grow. The tensions multiply when Jesus begins to tell of a new mission for God’s people: the good news of the scriptures is intended for all. In his famous passage from the First Letter to the Corinthians, St. Paul reminds us of the eternal nature of love. Love does not come to an end. In today’s readings, we are reminded that, like love, Jesus’ mission cannot be contained. Jesus slips through the crowd of persecutors and moves on to new challenges. Couples celebrating their Wedding Anniversaries (1st, 5th, 10th, 25th, 40th, 50th, and greater) this year are invited to attend the celebration mass at the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Joseph in downtown San Jose on Saturday, February 23, 2019, at 2:00 pm.
The couples will renew their wedding vows, will receive a blessing at the celebration, and will receive a certificate signed by our Most Reverend Bishop. Cake reception will follow in Loyola Hall, Cathedral Basilica of Saint Joseph. Couples need to pre-register online at dsj.org.

Quarterly Report
During the period from July to September 2018, members of the St. Elizabeth Conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul visited and aided 18 families. Forty-one bags of food were delivered to 15 of these families.
Our expenditures were as follows:
If you know of anyone who needs food, help paying a delin-quent utility bill, or help avoiding eviction, please have them call the church office. We also help families pay for gasoline, clothing, furniture, appliances, auto repairs and parts, and medical supplies.

World Day of the Sick and Anointing of the Sick
World Day of the Sick, initiated by Saint Pope John Paul II and held annually worldwide near the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes, will be observed at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church on Monday, February 11, at the 8:30 am Mass. The liturgy will include the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. Fr. Fran-cisco will preside at this mass.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:
It is good to remember this Fourth Sunday of ordinary time through our own vocation. And it is true that we all have a vocation, that is, a call that God makes to us in a special way, so that we can carry forward its realization, and
can enrich the life of our world.
It is through the experience of that vocation, that call from God, that the "how" and “when” are given. We are called to sanctify our lives. God calls us from the womb to live this life well, and to specialize in services according to our qualities and aptitudes. Nobody can say that there is nothing attractive in life. Some like to paint, some to sing, others to write - so many ways exist to express our intelligence and creativity.
God also calls us to be fulfilled through love, and that love leads us to relate to our fellow men through friendship, court-ship, consecrated life and marriage. It is also true that many times, we feel scared or reluctant to do what needs to be done or completed on or in a particular moment. For example, if a young man is afraid, and lets himself be dominated by fear, because his love is overshadowed by jealousy, insecurity, and misunderstandings, he does not manage to have a good courtship. These feelings will prevent him from feeling happy and creative in the relationship, which should be full of respect, joy and confidence.
If we do not have the joy, the peace, and the power to admire, we cannot fulfill what God asks of us. This is why God tells us that he knows us from the womb. Do not be afraid; this is how we must go through life, with the assurance that our mission is to make known the gifts we have received from God (Jeremiah 1,4-5:17-19).
Through it we are known for the sanctity of life. A marriage must be sanctified, through the building of a home and the sharing of lives, spouses loving each other and their children, and solving their issues with care and intelligence. Although at times we receive criticism for our simple and joyful ways of living, we must make known our fulfillment of our vocation, by saying it in this way: it is fulfilled at this time and in us. We respond to this vocation, with our surname and our name. It is valued only (or many times) by people of good will and the love of God.

Childlike Happiness The condition for entry into heaven:
"Become like children" (Mt 18:3).
For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you received a spirit of adoption, through which we cry, “Abba, Father!”
The Spirit itself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if only we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him. (Romans 8:15-17)
An orphan who has everything could still be happy, but he will not know the same happiness enjoyed by a child with parents. However poor, a child who experiences love will be a happy child. Then realize that you are the happiest of children, because you are a child of God the Father and a child of Mary. When people apply for a job, they state their abilities and achievements. A little child simply declares, "I am the child of Mr. and Mrs. So and So of such and such a place." Be proud to say: "I am a child of God and a child of Mary."
If a little child goes to a shop to buy something for his mother, and finds that the shop has already closed, he knocks and knocks until finally the shopkeeper angrily opens the door prepared to scold the person knocking. When he sees the little child standing there, so simple and innocent, he changes his attitude and, full of smiles, embraces the child. "You poor little child, what are you doing at this hour?" The little child obtains all he wants. Be like the little child with your Father.

Bài đọc 1: Gr 1:4-5;17-19 Chúa chọn Giêrêmia làm Ngôn sứ giảng dạy cho muôn dân. Ông cảm thấy sợ hãi và từ chối, nhưng Chúa hứa ở với ông. Bài đọc 2: 1Cr 12:31-13,13 Ðức tin, đức cậy, đức mến đều tồn tại, nhưng đức mến cao trọng hơn hết. Dù nói được các thứ tiếng, hay hiến thân cho người khác mà không có đức mến thì chẳng ích gì. Tin Mừng: Lc 4:21-30 Chúa Giêsu loan báo Người là Ðấng Cứu Thế tại Hội đường Nadaret, các đồng hương thán phục Người. Nhưng vì tư lợi và thành kiến, họ không tin nhận Người, tìm cách giết Người, nên không được Người cứu giúp.

Thân ái kính chào Quý Ông Bà và Anh Chị Em trong Chúa Kitô,
Chúng ta hãy nhớ ngày Chúa nhật thứ tư Mùa Thường Niên này trong ơn gọi của mỗi người chúng ta. Và thật sự là mỗi một người trong chúng ta đều có một ơn gọi riêng, đó là lời Thiên Chúa mời gọi chúng ta cách đặc biệt, để khi chúng ta biến lời mời đó thành hiện thực, chúng ta làm cho cuộc sống của thế giới chúng ta được thêm phong phú hơn.
Chính nhờ những trãi nghiệm trong cuộc sống ơn gọi đó mà chúng ta biết “làm thế nào” và “khi nào.” Chúng ta được mời gọi để thánh hóa cuộc sống của chúng ta. Chúa mời gọi chúng ta sống cuộc sống này cho thật tốt, ngay từ khi chúng ta vừa lọt lòng mẹ, sống để phục vụ trong đạo đức và khả năng của chúng ta. Bởi vì không ai có thể nói rằng không có gì hấp dẫn cả trong cuộc sống này. Có người thì thích vẽ, người thì thích hát, người khác thì thích viết, mỗi người bằng mỗi cách khác nhau tỏ lộ trí thông minh và sự sáng tạo của mình.
Thiên Chúa cũng mời gọi chúng ta hãy làm vì yêu, và tình yêu dẫn chúng ta đến với anh em mình qua tình bạn, tình yêu lứa đôi, bằng cách sống cuộc đời tận hiến hay cuộc sống hôn nhân. Và cũng nhiều lần chúng ta cảm thấy sợ hãi hoặc bị chia phối vì phải hoàn thành công việc gì đó ở một lúc nào đó. Ví dụ, nếu một chàng trai trẻ sợ hãi và để bản thân bị nỗi sợ hãi đó chi phối, anh ta không thể nào làm gì để gia tăng tình bạn được, bởi vì những sự ghen tuông, bất an, hiểu lầm sẽ làm lu mờ tình bạn đó đi, và rồi anh ta sẽ không cảm thấy hạnh phúc và không biết phải làm gì để tạo cho mối quan hệ đó được bền bỉ, được kính trọng, trong hân hoan, phấn khởi và tự tin.
Nếu chúng ta không có niềm vui, không có được sự bình an và uy tín để mọi người kính phục, chúng ta không thể thực hiện được những gì mà Chúa muốn chúng ta làm. Đó là lý do tại sao Chúa nói với chúng ta rằng Ngài biết chúng ta ngay từ khi còn trong lòng mẹ, đừng run sợ, đây là cách chúng ta phải sống cuộc đời của chúng ta để được Chúa ban phần thưởng Nước Trời sau này, và sứ mệnh của chúng ta là loan truyền cho mọi người được biết về điều này. Đó được gọi là thánh hoá cuộc sống. Một cuộc hôn nhân phải được thánh hóa qua việc xây dựng một gia đình, chia sẻ cuộc sống, yêu thương nhau và yêu thương con cái, quan tâm và khôn ngoan giải quyết mọi vấn nạn của gia đình. Mặc dù đôi khi chúng ta cũng có nghe những lời chỉ trích về cách sống bình thường và không lo âu của chúng ta, chúng ta phải nói cho mọi người biết đó là cách thức chúng ta thực hiện ơn gọi của mình, khi nói như vậy, làm điều đó vào thời điểm đó, khi chúng ta đáp lại ơn gọi của mình, chúng ta biết rằng nó sẽ chỉ có giá trị trước mặt những ai có thiện chí và tràn đầy tình yêu Thiên Chúa.

Trong Văn thư gởi Đức Giám Mục Giáo phận San Jose ngày 29 tháng 11 năm 2018, Đức hồng y Peter Turkson, Bộ trưởng Bộ Phát triển Nhân bản Toàn diện, đã bày tỏ lòng biết ơn đối với Đức cha Patrick McGrath vì đã cho phép Cộng đồng Công giáo người Việt vùng San Jose gây quỹ cho tiến trình điều tra phong Chân phước và Hiển thánh cho Đức hồng y Phanxicô Xaviê Nguyễn Văn Thuận, Tôi tớ đáng kính của Chúa, vào ngày 6 tháng 5 năm 2018. Ngài cũng cho biết bây giờ là giai đoạn phổ biến cho công chúng biết về cuộc đời và gương sống đạo của Đức hồng y Phanxicô, cũng như khuyến khích những lời cầu nguyện, vì cần có một phép lạ do lời bầu cử của Ngài để dẫn đến việc phong chân phước. Đức hồng y Turkson từng là Chủ tịch Hội đồng Toà thánh về Công lý và Hoà bình, mà từ năm 2017 trở thành một phần của Bộ Phát triển Nhân bản Toàn diện.

Kinh nghiệm khổ đau trong ngục tù, được ngài sống liên kết với Chúa Kitô chịu đóng đinh, dưới bóng che chở hiền mẫu của Mẹ Ma-ri-a, đã rèn luyện Ngài nên một chứng nhân sáng ngời cho Hội thánh và toàn Thế giới về sự hiệp nhất và tha thứ, cũng như về Công lý và Hòa bình. Con người giàu tình thương cùng với sứ vụ Mục tử giám mục của Ngài tỏa chiếu rạng ngời ánh sáng của đức tin, nhiệt tâm của niềm hy vọng và sức sống nồng ấm của đức ái. Giờ đây, nhờ lời bầu cử của Ngài và theo thánh ý Chúa, xin Chúa ban cho con được ơn đang cầu khẩn, với niềm hy vọng thấy Ngài sớm được vinh hiển trên bàn thờ. Amen!

Domingo, 3 de Febrero, 2019 Estimados Hermanos y Hermanas en Cristo: Es bueno recordar este Cuarto Domingo del tiempo ordinario en nuestra propia vocación.
Y es verdad, todos tenemos una vocación. O sea un llamado que Dios nos hace de manera especial para que llevando ade-lante su realización podamos enriquecer la vida de nuestro mundo. Es a través de la vivencia de esa vocación, que se da el ¿cómo? y ¿cuando? Se nos llama a santificar nuestra vida. Dios nos llama desde el vientre materno a vivir bien esta vida. A especializarnos en el servicio de acuerdo a nuestras cualidades y aptitudes. Porque nadie puede decir que nada le es atractivo en la vida. A algunos les gusta pintar, a otros cantar, a otros escribir, y así muchas formas de expresar nuestra inteligencia y creatividad. También, Dios nos llama a realizarnos a través del Amor, ese amor nos lleva a relacionarnos con nuestros semejantes a través de la amistad, del noviazgo, de la vida consagrada y del matrimonio. Y es cierto que muchas veces sentimos miedo de hacer lo que debemos, que en muchas ocasiones nos dis-traemos y no hacemos lo que debemos en su momento. Por ejemplo, si un jóven tiene miedo y se deja dominar por éste, no logra tener un buen noviazgo, porque estará opacado por los celos, la inseguridad, los malos entendidos, que evitan se sienta contento y creativo en esa relación, que debe estar llena de respeto, de alegría y confianza. Si no tenemos esa alegría, esa paz y ese poder de admirar, no se puede cumplir con lo que Dios nos pide. Por eso nos dice Dios que nos conoce desde el vientre materno, no tengas miedo. Así, deberemos ir por la vida con la seguridad de que los dones que tenemos los hemos recibido de Dios y nuestra misión es que sean conocidos. Jeremias1,4-5.17-19. A través de ello seamos conocidos por la santidad de vida. Un matrimonio debe santificar su vida a través de la construcción de su hogar, de compartir sus vidas, de amarse y amar sus hijos y de resolver sus conflictos con caridad e inteligencia. Aunque a veces se reciban críticas por nuestra forma sencilla y alegre de vivir. Debemos hacer presente el cumplimiento de nuestra vocación, decir así de esta manera, se cumple en este tiempo y en nosotros damos respuesta a esta vocación, nosotros con este apellido y este nombre, valorado solamente o muchas veces por gente de buena voluntad y el amor de Dios. ¡Dios les bendiga! Una Misión Continúa
En la sinagoga de su pueblo natal, los vecinos se maravillaban con las palabras de Jesús. No obstante, se preguntaban: “¿No es este el hijo de José?” Con seguridad la gente sabía quién era Jesús. El hijo del carpintero. El joven que aprendió en esa misma sinagoga. El muchacho de la calle. El conflicto surge cuando Jesús empieza a definirse de una manera nueva. Las tensiones aumentan cuando se compara con los antiguos profetas Elías y Eliseo. Las tensiones se multiplican cuando Jesús empieza a hablar de una nueva misión para el pueblo de Dios: la Buena Nueva de la Escritura está dirigida a todos. En su famoso pasaje de la primera carta a los Corintios, san Pablo nos recuerda la naturaleza del amor eterno. El amor no termina. En la lectura de hoy, se nos recuerda que, como el amor, la misión de Jesús no se puede detener. Jesús se desliza entre la multitud de perseguidores y sigue adelante con nuevos retos. Tradiciones de Nuestra Fe
En muchos hogares Latinos el tiempo de Navidad terminó el día dos de febrero con la levantada del Niño Dios en la fiesta de la Candelaria. Es interesante como el pueblo cristiano tiene un cierto afecto para Jesús en su aspecto de niño. Desde hace siglos con el evangelista Lucas y la virgen María la imaginación cristiana ha ido buscando al Divino Ni-ño en el templo; con san Cristóbal lleva cargando al Niño Dios sobre los hombros mientras cruza el río de la vida y san Antonio de Lisboa juega con el Niñito Jesús sobre un libro teológico mientras estudia la Palabra de Dios. Fueron los monjes cistercienses del siglo XII quienes primero desarrollaron esta devoción al Niño Jesús. En su afán por conocer mejor al Dios hecho humano entraban por medio de la meditación imaginativa en los cuatro evangelios. Esta meditación es un entrar en la vida de Jesús de tal manera que vives los eventos en tu corazón y desarrollar así una relación afectiva con el Señor. Sociedad de San Vicente de Paul Reporte Trimestral Julio a Septiembre 2018
Durante este período los miembros de la Sociedad de San Vicente de Paul visitaron y ayudaron a 18 familias. Repartieron 41 bolsas de comida, 15 de éstas fueron para éstas familias que ayudaron.
Estos fueron los gastos:
Si ustedes conocen alguna persona que esté en necesidad de ayuda monetaria o de comida, o está en proceso de perder su vivienda, por favor dígales que llamen a la oficina parroquial. También estamos ayudando a las familias con ropa, muebles, gasolina, reparaciones de auto o necesidades médicas.
