Dear Parishioners,

This pandemic has changed every event and celebration whether secular or religious.

We always are able to have a great celebration of the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy

Communion) at the Easter Vigil Mass; but due to Covid-19 we could not have this celebration this past April. On

Friday, September 25, 2020 at 11:00 am, our two elect, Ayda Enny and Linda Dalton, received full initiation into

the Church, and one candidate, Jermaine Williams, completed his Sacraments of Initiation with Holy Communion

and Confirmation. I want to congratulate them, their sponsors and their families. Please kindly keep them in your

prayers as they continue to journey in the Catholic faith and teaching. I want to thank Deacon Antonio Gonzalez

and Helen Gonzalez who were great catechists and companions to these newest members of our parish family.

On Saturday, September 26, 2020 at 11:00 a.m., fourteen communicants are receiving their First Holy Communion

and on October 3, 2020 at 11:00 a.m., twelve communicants will receive their First Holy Communion. They were

supposed to receive the sacrament in the spring, but again, Covid-19 kept them home. I want to thank all of the

catechists, parents, guardians, volunteers, and our Director of Faith Formation, Ms. Donna Spoto, who helped and

supported them on this special day. Please kindly keep them in your prayers.

We always had a commitment weekend in the month of May for the Annual Catholic Appel but this year we could

not have it because of the pandemic. On the weekend of October 3rd and 4th we are having a commitment week-

end for the Annual Catholic Appeal. I request each one of you to prayerfully consider if you can make a one time

pledge on this weekend; it will help a lot to reach our goal. This year our goal is $45,500.00 and 87 parishioners

have already made their pledge of $41,819.00 and $39,905.68 has been paid. We are behind $3,681.00. I know

Immaculate Heart of Mary parishioners have always supported their church and I am proud to be your pastor. As

you know, any money collected over our goal comes back to the parish and with that money we have completed

several capital projects. This year we have two capital projects: one is to repair our pipe organ and the second is

the elevator in the rectory. I can say that every gift makes a difference in the pledge. I am very grateful to every

one of you. God bless you an your families.

Registration for our parish Faith Formation Program is ongoing. All children in grades 1 thru 8 who attend pub-

lic and non-Catholic private schools are welcome to enroll in the Faith Formation Program to continue to grow in

their faith and experience the love of Jesus in their lives. There are opportunities to volunteer your services to our

parish children. For details, please contact Donna Spoto at 718-871-1310 option 3.

Opportunities to Help & Volunteer

“When I was hungry, you gave me to eat.” ( Mt. 25)

Our pantry is in need of non-perishable items such as: cereals, peanut butter, jelly, canned

vegetables, fruits, and soups, tuna fish, crackers, non-refrigerated milk (ex. Parmalat), etc.

Our Parish pledged to #WalkwithFrancis—donating

to the Food Pantry is a good way to walk.

Are You Aware?

It has been our experience at times that

some people may feel they are not able

to receive Communion due to divorce

or other personal issues. Often times,

there may be a misunderstanding regarding Church

Teaching in these matters. You are encouraged to see Fr.

Gill, Deacons Jim, John or Tony for clarity so that you do

not miss the opportunity to celebrate the healing presence

of Jesus in the Sacrament of Reconciliation and in turn

come to the Table of the Lord.

Associated Vincentian Charities

of Brooklyn Gives Back!

Immaculate Heart of Mary should share in the profits. For each car, truck or van, running or not the Society of

Saint Vincent de Paul will give back to our church $50/$100 per vehicle. Maybe you don’t have a vehicle, but a family member, friend or neighbor has an old or neglected vehicle in their driveway that they would like to dispose of. Call the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul at: 718.491.2525.

FAITH BOOK

26th Sunday (A) September 27, 2020 Ezekiel 18:25-28; Psalm 25;

Philippians 2:1-11; Matthew 21:28-32

From today’s Gospel reading:

A man had two sons. He came to the first and said, “Son go out and work in the vineyard today.” He said in reply, “I will not,” but afterwards changed his mind and went. The man came to the other son and gave the same order. H said in reply, “Yes, sir,” but did not go. Which of the two did his father’s will?” They answered, “The first.”

Reflection:

Did you notice in today’s parable there is no mention of how things turned out when the first son changed his mind and went into the vineyard? How hard of a worker was he when he finally got to the vineyard to work? Did he do what was expected of him? There are no standards or measurements of success laid out for us in this story. The emphasis is just on someone who changed his mind; who in the end, responded to an invitation. Maybe that is what is pleasing to God: our desire to serve and our attempts, if at times feeble, to respond—while we leave plenty of room for God to step in and fill in the gaps. The big ones and the small ones.

So, we ask ourselves:

• Shall we pray today for healing from past hurts caused by those who lied to us or disappointed us?

• And shall we ask for the ability to forgive them?

Although the life of a person is a land full of thorns and weeds, there is always a space in which the good seed

can grow. You have to trust God.

-Pope Francis

There are weekly offerings of

Bread and Wine ($25),

Sanctuary and Altar Candles ($20) or

Saint Candles ($10).

Please come or call the rectory.
