Twenty-Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time October 1 ,2017

The Pastor's Corner . . . . Please join me in welcoming two new employees to our SVM staff - Maribeth Kenworthy, Parish Secretary and Randal Matthis, Maintenance Supervisor. Maribeth is a graduate of St. Vincent Martyr School. She and her family were long-time parishioners before moving out of town. She comes to us with a BA from University of Dayton with a minor in Religious Studies and is a certified Paralegal. Maribeth has more than 10 years of administrative experience, most recently at Fairleigh Dickinson University. Randal is a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard and is a licensed Practical Nurse. When he decided to change career fields, he began to utilize the training he received while in the Coast Guard in carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, masonry and welding. He is currently enrolled in HVAC course work at Lincoln Technical Institute. Randal has 9+ years of experience in facilities maintenance, most recently with Westminster Management in Chatham. My sincere thanks to our Human Resources Committee - Barbara Eutsler, Barbara Doyle and Joe Verbaro for the diligence and professionalism that they showed in moving us through the hiring process and getting Maribeth and Randal on board. Barbara Eutsler's leadership in this effort was above and beyond. Thanks also to Tom Kenny for stepping up to the maintenance plate and getting us through this time of transition. On behalf of our parish I express my deep gratitude to Diane Wallace and Keith Amling for their years of dedicated service here at Saint Vincent Martyr Parish and School. Keith exercised extraordinary stewardship of our buildings and grounds, treating them like they were his own home and worked tirelessly to make things better. He managed to juggle the multitude of requests that came his way keeping everyone happy and feeling well served. He also had the distinction of helping us through both a school expansion and a church renovation. We will miss Keith and his 'can do' and 'will do' attitude - he is a man who cared about others, especially our parish and school children, and we are better for his time with us. Diane began her work with us in the school and transitioned to our parish office as secretary. In that position she exemplified what it means for Saint Vincent Martyr to be a welcoming community. Every person who called or stopped by the office received a friendly greeting and a sincere offer to be of assistance. No request was too hard to handle, no matter how much research or resource that it required. Diane had a beautiful way of sharing in our parishioners joys and their struggles. She truly helped me as a pastor to stay in touch with the heartbeat of our community. There is no doubt that Diane fully bought into the truth that "kindness matters", living that every day in doing her job. We will miss her life giving and joy bringing presence in our office and wish her an abundance of blessings for the future. I thank her personally for her invaluable assistance to me as pastor - her availability, her collaboration and her support of my vision will never be forgotten. Thank you Diane for the difference you have made in our lives.

STEWARDSHIP

CATHOLIC PRESENCE IN MADISON

Over the next few months, St. Vincent Martyr Church will have opportunities to show our Catholic Presence in Madison. Bottle Hill Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas and Hope House outreach. Over the years Bottle Hill Day, October 7, has grown, evolving into a family, entertainment and community celebration which draws between 10,000 and 20,000 people to the heart of Madison. For St. Vincent's it is a good time for us to evangelize. We have always had an active school and parish and as a result of our Stewardship campaign more of us came forward to show our stewardship way of life and to grow in our faith. See you at Bottle Hill Day to show our Catholic Presence in the area. Here at SVM we like to share our blessings with all and show our presence in the community.

For additional information on Stewardship and the many ministries at St. Vincent Martyr, please e-mail

[email protected]. St. Vincent Martyr Parish welcomes your participation in serving others as we minister together to serve all of God’s people. It is never too late to embrace a ministry of your choice.

Welcoming Ministry Focus Group Sessions “May the church be the place of God’s mercy and love, where everyone can feel themselves welcomed, loved, forgiven and encouraged to live according to the good life of the Gospel. And in order to make others feel welcomed, loved, forgiven and encouraged, the church must have open doors so that all might enter. And we must go out of those doors and proclaim the Gospel.”

-Pope Francis continuing a series of meditations on the church June 12, 2013 With his “theology of the open door”, Pope Francis has been called the “Pope of Hospitality”, having brought new life

into the church by encouraging us to “open our doors” and share the love of Jesus Christ to all. To help fulfill that mission at St. Vincent Martyr, the Welcoming Ministry is being reorganized into three groups: New Parishioners, Liturgical Life, and Cultural Hospitality on our Campus including Communications and Technology. Before launching those groups, we will be holding two focus groups, where you will be able to share your “glads” and “sads” - what we are doing well along with opportunities for improvement.

Session 1: Wednesday, October 11 @ 7:30 PM

Session 2: Sunday, October 15 @ 2:00 PM

Location: Ministry Center - St. Peter’s Room If you feel the call to follow the Pope’s mission and would like to serve on this ministry, be sure to attend one of the

two sessions and RSVP your name, session number, phone number and email address to Lenore Luckey, 973-822-2916 or [email protected] by October 9.

Make the Shift from Grief to Recovery

You may have experienced a loss or know someone who has. Grieving is the most normal and natural response to a loss, but it is the most misunderstood experience. Society does not like to talk about loss and wants us to find all the answers in our head. Grief is an emotional response to a loss and involves the heart too. People will tell you it takes time to heal, but they are not sure of the specific steps that are necessary to help you heal. We, at Dangler Funeral Home, Inc., offer The Grief Recovery Method® Support Program to individuals in our community who have experienced a loss. This program provides you the guidance and support you need during this healing process. This program is fairly new to this area and we are excited to offer it as our ongoing support for those who have experienced a loss. Invite a friend or any other family member. Dangler Funeral Home, Inc. offers this 7 week program free of charge. To find out more about this program, please join me:

ASSISTANCE NEEDED My name is Sean Needham. I’m a 26 year old student at Montclair State University (MSU) and I have Cerebral Palsy (CP). I’m a very motivated person who wants to get the most out of life. I am looking for someone to be a self-hire employee to assist me 20 hours per week @$17 per hour. I’m looking for someone who is at least 25 years old with a good driving record (Much of the support I need is transportation to and from medical appointments and recreational events/activities). I will require you to have a background check. I’m looking for someone who is able and willing to help me with transitioning from directed dependent care to full independence. I need someone who can teach and support me through the process of becoming independent. I like working with people who are patient and have a good sense of humor. I direct my own care (i.e. let me tell you what I need…do not assume I need help). Some days I have more mobility than others. This job will require physical, emotional and mental patience as I learn to care for myself and become more independent. I need assistance with lifting me as well as driving my power chair in and out of the car. I need someone to supervise me as I transfer in and out of the shower, I can wash myself. However, I do need help drying my feet and legs as well as dressing my lower body. I will also need others to perform household duties like walking my dog (I have a German shepherd), doing my laundry and taking out trash etc. I am able to do a lot of meal preparation by myself and it is important that I am able to do this. As part of me increasing my independence, I will be attending occupational and physical therapy appointments. I will want those assisting me to be sitting in on my OT and PT appointments so they can help me practice what I’ve been taught. It is most important for me to find someone who values my independence as much as I do. Thanks so much and I look forward to hearing from you. If you are interested in the position, please contact me at 973-975-5003.

XXVI Domingo del Tiempo

Ordinario

Primera Lectura: Ez 18, 25-28

3. División y contenido temático a) Isaías: Comprende 66 capítulos. Se divide en tres grandes partes:

Proto-Isaías (primer Isaías): cap. 1-39.

unirse al grupo de lectores de nuestra parroquia;

tendríamos una práctica; si está interesado por

favor llamar al Padre Darwin al 973-377-4000

ext.

Visite nuestra pagina web: www.faithdirect.net y

use nuestro código de iglesia: NJ740.

Gracias por su apoyo continuado de nuestra

familia parroquial!

Dios los bendiga,

Fr. George Hundt
