Alleluia, Alleluia! The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent andbelieve in the Gospel.

“Jesus came to Galilee proclaiming the gospel of God: "This is thetime of fulfillment. The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, andbelieve in the gospel." MK 1:14

Feast of St Blaise- Blessing of ThroatsThe annual blessing of throats on the Feast of St.Blaise is a traditional sign of the struggle against illness in the life of the Christian. This year the blessing will be on, Saturday, Feb. 3rd, during the9:15 am Mass.

Suffering and illness have always been among the greatestproblems that trouble the human spirit. Christians feel andexperience pain as do all other people; yet their faith helpsthem to grasp more deeply the mystery of suffering and tobear their pain with greater courage. . . . Part of the plan laidout by God's providence is that we should fight strenuouslyagainst all sickness and carefully seek the blessings of goodhealth, so that we may fulfill our role in human society andin the Church. The blessing of the sick by ministers of theChurch is a very ancient custom, rooted in imitation ofChrist himself and his apostles. (from the Book of Blessings)

ST. MARY’S PRESCHOOL

Now that the Christmas season is over and we spenda few weeks in Ordinary Time, this simple aid to

prayer has been popularized by Pope Francis, and it’s perfectfor kids. Try this: Using an old glove, write key words on each fin-ger to help your child remember the five parts of the prayer.1. The thumb is the closest finger to you. So start praying forthose who are closest to you. They are the persons easiest toremember. To pray for our dear ones is a “sweet obligation.”2. The next finger is the index finger. Pray for those who teachyou, instruct you, and heal you. They need God’s help as theyoffer direction for others.3. The following finger is the tallest. It reminds us of our gov-ernment leaders and others who have authority. They need God’sguidance.4. The fourth finger is the ring finger, which is also our weakestfinger. It should remind us to pray for the weakest among us—the sick, the poor, those excluded from society, and thoseplagued by other problems.5. And finally we have our smallest finger, the smallest of all.Your pinkie should remind you to pray for yourself. When youare done praying for the other four groups, you will be able topray for your own needs in a better way.
