A figure of around 22,000 euro was raised on the day, with further money to come from raffle tickets. A special thanks also to all those in Mount Merrion who donated books for the sale – a figure of 3,000 euro was raised on the book stall alone. These are women and men from our faith community who have with dignity and prayerful aenon ensured that every Tuesday there is a prayer gathering in our church. We know that aſter Jesus had died, risen, and ascended into heaven that the disciples remained fearful and confused. However, aſter Pentecost they took their mission as Jesus had wanted, and they began to proclaim the good news of the kingdom. Central to their mission was prayer with the community, led by women and men, and we hear that in the descripon of the first church as it began in the Acts of the Apostles: They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. 46 Every day they contnued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favour of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved. (Acts 2: 42-47) Our service each Tuesday organised and offered within this context and where possible I invite you to support it and our faith community. Fr.
