Help O.L.S. ensure our neighbors will not face an empty plate this holiday season.

Thanksgiving Dinner at Grace’s Kitchen Thursday, November 23, 2017

Lifting up Westchester, formerly the Grace Church Community Center, is providing dinner for some

450 of our neediest neighbors on Thanksgiving Day at 12 noon. Please see the sign-up sheet in the front of our church and help O.L.S. provide for 65 people.

Please bring your food to Grace’s Kitchen, 33 Church Street in White Plains (at the intersection of

Mamaroneck Avenue & Main Street). The food may be dropped off Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday

November 20-22 from 8:30am to 1pm - ask for Maggie and also on Thanksgiving Day from

7:30am to 9:30am. Please label the food and give re-heating/cooking directions and provide the date if frozen. For more information, please call 914-948-

3575. Thank you and may God bless you all.

Grace’s Kitchen receives no direct government support and relies on individual donations to fund its

meals. Besides 2,000 holiday meals, the soup kitchen serves lunch every Monday through Friday

throughout the year – some 20,000 additional nutritious meals. Please consider a monetary

donation to support this effort. Make checks payable to Lifting up Westchester, 350 Orchard Street, White Plains, NY 10603. Thank you for your

continued generosity.

In the event of a medical emergency PLEASE NOTE: an automated external defibrillator (AED) is located in the vestibule between the church and rectory office on the wall in a red case. “An automated external defibrillator (AED) is a lightweight, portable device that delivers an electric shock through the chest to the heart. The shock can potentially stop an irregular heart beat (arrhythmia) and allow a normal rhythm to resume following sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). SCA occurs when the heart malfunctions and stops beating unexpectedly. AEDs make it possible for more people to respond to a medical emergency where defibrillation is required. Because AEDs are portable, they can be used by non-medical people (lay rescuers). AEDs can be made part of emergency response programs that also include rapid use of 9-1-1 and prompt delivery of cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR). All 3 of these activities are vital to improving survival from SCA. A built-in computer checks a victim’s heart rhythm through adhesive electrodes. The computer calculates whether defibrillation is needed. If it is, a recorded voice prompts the rescuer to press the shock button on the AED. This shock momentarily stuns the heart and stops all activity. It gives the heart a chance to resume beating effectively. Audible prompts guide the user through the process. Although formal training in the use of an AED is not required, it is recommended to help the rescuer increase their comfort and level of confidence. However, AEDs are intended for use by the general public. Most AEDs* use audible voice prompts to guide the user through the process. AEDs are safe to use by anyone. Some studies have shown that 90% of the times AEDs are able to detect a rhythm that should be defibrillated. This data suggests that AEDs are highly effective in detecting when (or when not) to deliver a shock.”

-American Heart Association *The AED in our church vestibule by the rectory office has audible voice prompts.
