Maskon vaccination system– Revolutionizing and rationalizing the vaccination of fish

One operator, up to 40 000 fish/hour

The Maskon vaccination system is developed in a close cooperation with the world’s largest salmon producers. Skala Maskon’s fully automatic vaccination machine is operated by a single operator and can vaccinate and grade up to 40 000 smolt per hour, and will handle fish in the size range 30-170 grams. The machines can vaccinate single, double, triple and intramuscular doses simultaneously.

Easy to integrate, easy to expandThe machine can be integrated with an existing anesthetizer or be equipped with Maskon’s own 2-chamber continuous anesthetizer. To secure a steady flow and optimal capacity utilization, the system can be supplemented with a Maskon buffer tank with a feeding system.

Vaccination of high qualityA camera system controls the vaccination units sothat the injection point becomes exact for each fish. The injection point’s accuracy is above 98%, and the mortality rate is below 0.02%.

The injection depth will be adjusted automatically in relative to the length of the fish. A sensor placed on the needle is monitoring the injection performance and makes sure that the vaccine has been dosed correctly.

A new vacuum technic is used to hold the fish while it’s being vaccinated and makes the injection point almost invisible.

A water jacket with tempered water, assures that the vaccine keeps the correct temperature.

One operator, easy to operateFeeding and singulation of the fish is a fully automatedprocess with simple rotational movements. Onlyone operator is necessary to operate the machine,resulting in significant savings compared to traditionalmethods. The machine communicates with operatorsthrough voice messages. This means that the operatordoes not have to be by the machine at all times.

When exchanging needles, you only have to stop theunit where the exchange is being made, the rest of themachine keeps going. Exchanging the needle is a fastand easy process, with no tools necessary.

Automatic weight grading and rejectionThe fish does not need to be graded prior to vaccination if combined with our small fish separator, but grading is always an advantage.

The system will grade the fish and divide it into threeweight classes, decided by the operator. Different rapports such as weight, amountand categories, can be generated automatically.

Monitoring, service and supportAll machines are supported by the Maskon remote viathe internet. Control procedures can be performedin their own program mode and the control system cancommunicate with other systems.

Maskon vaccination machine is delivered with anoperation- and service agreement that includessupport, service and spare parts. This assures high reliability and a predictable economy.

With Maskon’s anesthetizer and buffer tank, the fish supply, to the vaccination machine, will be automatic. We are using data from the vision system to calculate the weight of the fish, based on that information we know how much fish that should go thorugh the vaccination machine.

The system weighs the fish on the way to the anesthetizer, and will get a very accurate amount of fish from the anesthetizer. The supply of fish to the anesthetizer is done by an Archimedes screw. This gives us the opportunity to regulate the speed, and to start and stop the supply of fish very quickly.

The Archimedes screw is also a very gentle way to transporting the fish. Our anesthetizer consists of 2 chambers, that means that the production will not shutdown while exchanging anaesthetize. The buffer system and the anesthetizer communicates directly with our vaccination machine, so you do not get limited interfaces.

Maskon injection units– adapted to the different vaccines

Maskon Single injection unitThis is Maskon’s standard injection unit, intended for dosing one type of vaccine at a time. A camera system guides the injection units so that the point of impact is correct regardless the size of the fish. The injection point accuracy is over 98%, and mortality by vaccination is less than 0.02%.

The injection unit is further developed, so that the entire inje- ction unit stands still and only need to move back and forth, which provides much more flexibility and operational stability

The injection depth is automatically adjusted relative to the length of the fish. A sensor by the needle monitors that the injection being injected correctly in each fish.

Vacuum technology secures the position of the fish during vaccination, and also secures that the mark from the need-le will be almost invisible. A water cap with tempered water ensures a consistent and correct temperature on the vaccine.

Maskon Double injection unitNow you easily can increase the flexibility and efficiency of your existing vaccination machine! We have developed a new injection unit that can inject two different types of vaccine in one and the same injection. The injection units can replace the single injec- tion unit on the vaccine machine.

Compared to the original single dose unit, accuracy and reliabi-lity have been even better. On the new device, the entire dosage unit stands still and only need to move back and forth, which provides much more flexibility and operational stability.

This are some of the other benefits:

• The operator has good control of the consumption of a vaccine.• There are separate counters for the units.• One dose may be oil-based, the other water-based.• The dose size can be adjusted individually if needed.• Dose size adjustment 0.025-0.1 ml. The accuracy of the dose is improved and stability has increased.• Adjustment of the injection depth is also made easier.

Maskon Duo HP injection unitDuo HP (High Precision) injection unit is further developed from the Duo device to disperse vaccines of different viscosity at the same time. These can be water /oil-based vaccines

Duo HP does not mix the vaccines, but drives them sequentially out through the needle. This allows it to dispense vaccines with very different viscosity with a high degree of accuracy.

The device is developed for future types of vaccines that are more demanding and need more accuracy.

Other properties are similar to the Maskon duo injection unit.

Maskon Single/Duo and IM injection unitThis injection unit provides an intramuscular injection in addition to the abdominal injection. (IM = intramuscular injection unit).

The IM unit inserts the vaccine into the muscle and is intended for future DNA vaccines. It automatically adjusts the injection position according to the size of the fish so that the vaccine is inserted into the thickest muscle.

The dose size is adjusted the same way as abdominal vaccina-tion. The IM injection unit is available together with single or double abdominal vaccination units. The illustration shows an IM device together with a duo injection unit.
