FOREWORD

JOHAN  KAMAL  HAMIDON  Chairperson  of  Malaysian  Students’  Council  of  Australia  (MASCA)  2013/2014

To  cater   to   this  diverse   range  of   interests,   the  committee  has  prepared  MASA  as  a  platform  for  students   to  not  only  be   involved   in   the  areas  that   they  are   interested,  but   also   be   exposed   to   new   areas   and   opportunities.   In   April,   students   can   get   to  know   companies   relevant   to   their   careers   learn   from  prominent  Malaysian   leaders  and  most  importantly  exchange  valuable  experiences  with  one  another;  through  the  various   components   prepared   during   the   2nd   MASA.   We   aim   to   acknowledge   and  commend   achievements   through   MASA,   as   we   believe   that   in   order   to   gain  excellence,  you  need  to  recognise  and  learn  from  it  as  well.

I   also  anticipate  MASA   to   reflect   the  unity   that   comes  with  diversity,   a  quality   that  Malaysia   boasts   as   a  multicultural   society.  We  also   aspire  MASA   to   continue  being  the  beacon  of  Malaysian  events  in  Australia,  attracting  even  more  students  of  diverse  backgrounds  and   interests   in   the   future,   thus  expanding   the  potentials  of  MASA   to  greater  heights.  The  visions  of  2nd  MASA  are  now  being  realised  and  I  would   like  to  acknowledge   and   extend  my   gratitude   to   all   of   the   sponsors   for   their   support   and  kindness,   to   the   Malaysian   students   in   Australia   for   their   continuous   support   and  participation,   and   last   but   not   least,   the   2nd   MASA   committee   members   which  consists  of  MASCA,  EHSAN,  and  KUA  student  leaders,  who  have  worked  tirelessly   in  making  the  event  a  success.  We  have  come  so  far   in  terms  of  growing  both  MASCA  and  MASA  to  a  bigger,  better  and  bolder  brand,  and   I  could  only  hope  that  MASCA  will   be   able   to   continue   serving   the  welfare   and   interests  of  Malaysian   students   in  Australia.

Assalamualaikum  and  Greetings  everyone,

The   inaugural   MASA   is   definitely   a   great   benchmark  that  we  wish  to  surpass   in  the  2nd  MASA.  We  aspire  to  shift  paradigms  and  continue  making  significant  impacts  through  MASA  while  staying  true  to  our  tagline.  As  the  tagline  goes,  MASA  was  envisioned   to  be   the  platform  “Where  Excellence  Crosses  Paths.”  It  is  undeniable  that  Malaysian  students  in  Australia  have  different  skills  and  interests;   be   it   in   leadership,   academic,   intellectual  discourse,  sports,  and  many  others.

Passion,   commitments,   and   sweat  were   behind  making   this   2nd   edition   of  MASA   a  reality.   For   that,   I   could   never   thank   the   whole   committee   enough   for   working  tirelessly  as  a  collective  group  to  organize  and  realize  the  2nd  MASA.  It  had  not  been  a  smooth  journey  for  many,  but  our  passion  and  love  in  the  work  that  we  do  had  given  us  the  drive  and  motivation  needed.    It  is  inspiring  to  see  members  of  our  committee  perform  beyond   their  expectations  and   test   their  boundaries   for   the  2nd  MASA  this  year.  The  results  had  already  begun  to  show  through  the  founding  of  the  first  MASA  Cyber   Games,   a   coveted   line   of   speakers   for   the   MASA   Conference,   as   well   as   a  variety  of   top  tier  companies   for  MASA  Careers.  To  all  of  our  committee  members,  do  continue  to  do  everything  with  passion  and  you  will  achieve  great  heights.

I   owe   my   utmost   gratitude   to   the   entire   MASCA   family   across   Australia,   our  comrades   in  KUA  and  EHSAN,  and  most   importantly  the  awesome  MASA  team  who  had  worked  tirelessly  over  these  few  months.  In  addition,  this  momentous  occasion  would  not  have  been  possible  without   the  support   from  our  sponsors,  government  bodies   as   well   as   the   long   list   of   involved   parties.   On   behalf   of   the   organising  committee,  we  truly  encourage  everyone  to  make  the  most  out  of  your  experience  at  the   2nd  MASA.   Always   remember   that   ‘time’,   and   therefore  MASA,   is   precious   and  should  never  be  wasted.  We  hope  that  you  would  take  home  countless  medals  from  the  games,  keys  to  your  career  pathway,  wisdom  from  the  prominent  speakers,  but  most   importantly,   unforgettable   memories   and   friends!   Thank   you   and   have   an  amazing  experience  in  2nd  Malaysian  Summit  of  Australia!

Greetings  and  a  good  day  my  fellow  Malaysians!  The  2nd   Malaysian   Summit   of   Australia   marks   an  unprecedented   chapter   in   the   development   of   the  Malaysian   community   as   a   whole   in   Australia.   First  and   foremost,   I   would   like   to   touch   on   the  significance  of  the  naming  of  our  event,  MASA.  MASA  literally  translates  to  ‘time’  in  our  mother  tongue,  and  we  from  the  organizing  committee,  envision  MASA  to  be   an   event   that   is   as   precious   as   ‘time’   itself.   We  believe  that  this  opportunity  to  be  a  part  of  MASA  is  analogous   to   our   allocation   of   time;   whereby   the  chance  to  be   involved   in  an  event  such  as  MASA  will  not  come  again  for  many  of  us.

AFIQ  NAZMI  KHAIRUL  AZMI                                                Head  of  Operations  of  MASA

We  are   continuing  our  efforts   to   further  expand  MASA  and   this   is   evident   through  our   attempt   to   engage   and   cater   with   groups   of   diverse   interest   i.e.   gamers.   This  year,   Melbourne   would   be   carrying   the   torch   as   the   host   and   we   would   like   to  warmly  welcome  everyone  to  the  multicultural  city  of  Melbourne!

We  would   like   to  convey  our  utmost  gratitude  to   the  whole  MASA  team  for  all   the  efforts  and  hard  works  that  has  been  put  in  ensuring  that  the  2nd  Malaysian  Summit  of  Australia  2014  takes  place  as  planned.  Nothing  would  have  been  possible  without  cooperation  from  our  committee  members,  advisors,  sponsors,  speakers’  organisers  as  well   as   the  participants.  We  would   like   to   convey  our   gratitude  wishes   to  Dato’  Zainal   Abidin   (Malaysian   High   Commissioner   to   Australia)   as   our   Patron,   Dr   Hajah  Jumiati   Ismail  (Director  of  Education  Malaysia  Australia)  and  the  education  attachés  as  our  advisors,  and   to  all   companies  as  well  as  government  agencies  as  our  proud  sponsors,  because  without  your  motivation,  funding,  ideas  and  support,  it  would  not  have  been  possible  to  make  2nd  MASA  a  success.  We  tried  to  our  best  of  abilities  to  accommodate   all   participants’   needs   and   requirements   in   order   to   ensure   that  everyone   will   have   a   wonderful   and  memorable   stay.   Advanced   apologies   for   any  shortcomings  and  please  do  provide  feedbacks  and  suggestions  for  us  so  that  we  can  continue  creating  better  experience  for  you  in  the  next  event.

Assalamualaikum  and  Greetings  everyone,    First  and  foremost,  I  would  like  to  extend  my  warm  welcome   to   all   participants   of   the   2nd   Malaysian  Summit   of   Australia   (MASA)   2014.   Only   with  continues  support  and   involvement  from  you,  that  we   are   able   to   recreate   similar   impact,   and  hopefully  a  better  version  of  MASA  for  the  second  edition   this   year.   With   these   6   components,  especially   MASA   Cyber   Games   being   added   as   a  new  component,  we  aim  to  unite  all  Malaysians   in  Australia   by   providing   a   platform   for   everyone   to  interact   and   engage   not   only   amongst   them,   but  also  with   prominent  Malaysian   leaders,   as  well   as  future  employers,  in  line  with  our  vision  to  provide  a  place  “Where  Excellence  Crosses  Paths”.

2.  MASA  OVERVIEW

Malaysian   Summit   of  Australia,   simply  put   as  MASA,   is  more   than   an  event   run  by  students.  Conceived  by  the  Malaysian  Student’s  Council  of  Australia  (MASCA),  MASA  is   an   unprecedented   idea   based   on   a   vision   to   gather   people   of   diverse   interest   –  students  and  non-‐students  alike  –  at  one  place.  Just  like  our  country  Malaysia,  MASA  is  unity  in  diversity.    MASA  will  be  the  largest  Malaysian  event  in  Australia.  2nd  MASA  is  proposed  to  be  a  national  summit  bringing  6  different  components  together  over  the  course  of  5  days  during   the   Easter   break   in   Melbourne,   Australia.   The   6   components   are   Careers,  Conference,   Excellence   Awards,   Student   Leaders   Agenda,   Games   and   our   new  addition  Cyber  Games.    Through  MASA,  participants   can  now  not  only  partake   in   their  preferred  event  but  also   get   involved   in   the  other  5  events!  One   can  attend  a  national   conference  and  engage   Malaysia’s   leaders   and   the   next   day   speak   to   top   corporate   leaders.   Or  imagine   being   a   part   of   student   leaders   gathering   and   next   participating   in   one   of  your  favourite  spots.  To  top  it  all,  there  will  be  an  award  ceremony  to  recognize  one’s  efforts  in  Australia.    Previously   known   as   the   National   Games   and   Conference   (NCG),   it   has   been  rebranded  as  MASA  in  line  with  its  expansion  and  revamp.  MASA  strives  to  unite  the  best   and   brightest   minds   of   various   backgrounds   by   bringing   5   components   of  different  nature  into  one  platform.  MASA  is  here  excellence  crosses  paths.
