Debbie is humbled to be the Ambassador of the Month for August. Last June, she began her role as Director of Sales with Wingate By Wyndham St. Louis/Riverport, which is a limited-service hotel, operated by Midas Hospitality, offering great service, great rates and hotel amenities above the rest. Debbie is not new to the hospitality industry having started in operations for several years before changing over to sales for the last 12 years. She has worked for several full service hotels and limited service hotels in the St. Louis area. She loves working in the hospitality industry because of all the new people she gets to meet on a daily basis and growing those relationships. Debbie is proud to serve on the Membership Committee with the MHCC because it allows her to reach new people and to help others reach their goals. Debbie keeps busy outside of the hotel and chamber activities with her husband, Dennis and their 2 bulldogs, Lola & Luci.

I was just thinking this morning about how nice it will be this weekend when the temperature is only 93 degrees...that’s like being happy with gas prices under $3.50 per gallon. As I write this I am looking up the actual temperatures for the last 30 days and more than 16 days have been in excess of 100. Does extreme weather impact your business like it does mine? What do you do to make up for those unproductive days? Take a look at some of the upcoming events listed in the newsletter and put them in your calendar...that way if you have some open time you can still stay productive with the chamber.

St. Louis County Parks Budget ShortfallAfter recent controversy, it has been reported that St. Louis County Parks Department is still $500,000 in the red despite laying off 20 employees and increasing revenue by $193,780.

A new plan that outlined a strategy to keep parks providing the basic services while reducing costs comes seven months after County Executive Charlie Dooley proposed closing 23 parks and laying off more than 100 employees because of a budget crisis. Dooley later said he miscalculated a $10 million deficit, which left the county parks open.
