When the world starts becoming more organic then so does the companies thatexists in it. This winter Cover Girl’s owners Procter & Gamble Co. are making a line ofmakeup for the women today. While in the past women have covered up with caked upcostume-like make up, now it seems like the natural look and feel is now what they are

buying. Cover Girl has produced a line of cosmetics called “NatureLuxe”, for higher endcustomers that look for the lighter makeup look combined with full makeup coverage. Theterm “Barely there” is what the company is going for, and “NatureLuxe” is transforming

women into natural beauties. No more caked on makeup that makes you break out the nextday, Cover Girl is turning to nature to help produce their makeup and using the natural

jojoba, rosehip extracts, cucumber water to make women feel not so weighed down, as wellas heavy oils now being replaces by mango and shea butters. The products packaging is notonly the color green but also going green by being eco-friendly. This I believe is a bold and

also brilliant idea. Today’s women is not wanting the world to look at her and say she’sbeautiful but obviously that caked on make-up is covering up something and Cover Girl isgiving today’s women that option. I feel “NatureLuxe” is exactly what women need today,

not hiding behind a mask but celebrating the beauty they already have.

Growing up is hard to do but Betsey Johnson is doing such that to herlabel. This year the company Steve Madden has bought into the Betsey

Johnson brand and opening new doors for the company. When youthink of the Betsey Johnson style you think of hearts, stars, neon

colors, and childish style. Now they are shedding the “lil’ too youngand a lil’ to short” looks and growing up. The first start was hiring a

new chief executive, Susan Falk, who was formally with thecompanies Henri Bendel and Express, now they are hoping now to

reach out the “Lost customer”. But old Betsey Johnson fans don’t cry,the designer herself has spoken out and said that still after 32 years she

will be keeping true to herself. This new facelift is what the BetseyJohnson brand needs to do, somewhere between the runway shows and

the stores the clothing and accessories become what a 12 year oldwould ask for Christmas. With the expansion of the stores and

changing the website customers can easily access the new looks even ifthere isn’t a store by them. When looking over the changes, the looks

have already matured, and in this economy I believe the change isgoing to be outstanding profit for the company.

Still want to show off those summer legs? Well have nofear Vogue’s new trend alert is all about showing offthose “Gorgeous gams” of yours. Yes, in some areasit’s a bit chilly outside but that doesn’t mean you can’tbe part of the trend. Vogue gives out tips of how to saywarm no matter the weather. Pairing the longer skirtswith thigh high boots and fur should do just the trick inthis chilly holiday season. I was ecstatic when I readabout this trend, every year I’m the only girl still tryingto hold on to that lil’ piece of summer clothing. I canalready picture myself this holiday season with a longtweed skirt a fur muff and the thigh high boots I justpurchased as a Christmas gift to myself.

This fall, women are stepping out and have made the world wonder,has she been watching a lot of Seinfeld reruns or what? Many fashionmagazines and blogs have been relating the current long floral dressestrend with the ones that the character Elaine wore on Seinfeld It’s amixture of the ever going floral prints mixed with a shapeless shiftdress. Young women are traveling around on the streets of Soho,NewYork and Los Angeles,CA. Socks are being worn with heels andsometimes the dresses almost makes the girls look frumpy. Thoughmany are updated this recurring look, example music star Rhiannalooks like she walked right out of the 1990s tv shows, but a bit sexier.Women still are bringing a edge to the floral dresses. Goodbye to longsleeves and hello to low necklines. It looks like once again fashionrepeats itself.

1960s, biker, kitten, what do these words have in common? They are the 2011spring trends. Mixing these all together are problem not in ones best interest but

separately they will make you stand out being a fashionable woman in the crowd.The 1960s are coming back, first with the chopped off hair of movie star EmmaWatson mocking Twiggy and now the double breasted jackets, mini skirts, andbucket hats. Marc Jacob, on designer that women love to be inspired by trotted

women down the runway wearing just those items and soon women will beinspired by those fashions. The winter of camel colors and soft wools are over,

women are becoming edgier. Biker chic is a predicted trend of mine. Thighleather boots has been the trend women have been wearing this fall and now it’sexpanding. Leather jackets, tight leather pants, Burberry was one of the first toshow this on the runway. With Burberry normally keeping their fashions “safe”this is a trend that should be recognized by the public. “How high can you go?”

has been the trend with women and their heels these days. Don’t worry women of2011 your feet can rest; kitten heels are “In”. Still inspired by the show Mad Mensmaller heels are being shown through all the designers collection for their Spring

2011 lines.

Winter is here and so are the decorations that go alongwith it, and that is including the visual display windowsof retail stores. To get in the cozy spirit of window the

displays are getting chilly. The winter 2010Anthropologie window display is exactly what the

stores signature look is, thrifty and fun. The store usedold milk jugs to make a igloo as a frame around what

looks they are selling, and in this case it’s a cozysweater strung with some kitted slippers. I love the

display because of the fact how they used the milk jugs,it makes you look at it and say “That is just so smart!”.The whole feel of the display makes me want to run inand buy a sweater and curl up in front of a fire drinking

eggnog.

Who says that you cant wear white after Labor day?This season Chanel is making their display windows a

winter wonderland and doing it in the most elegantway possible. Using just black, white, and a hint of

tiffany blue, it looks like Chanel is selling class. I lovethis window display because of the story that it tells.

There’s the lonely woman on the right, with thesuitcases in the middle of the winter. The two touristson the left that are looking to forge through the snow

and venture out, all while dressing to the prime. Manywomen think that because its winter they need to put

on Ugg boots, ugly over-sized sweaters and puffyfeather coats, Chanel proves in this display that you

don’t have to dress frumpy cause of the weather.

This year the show “Boardwalk Empire” premiered onHBO, the show based in the 1920s and the fashions areinspiring women everywhere. The details of dresses,sequins and beading have been showing up in modernform throughout the country. When the show “Mad Men”started women all over started wearing corsets to getthe hour glass look. I believe now women will be freeingthemselves from the structure and letting themselvesfree. The linier shift dresses give women still a sexylook. The dresses aren't the only thing that is the focusbut the furs worn in the show and the 1920s will becoming back as fur is a predicted trend for the winterand the spring. Headbands for winter are being sold andwithout even realizing it, women are wearing them andthe look is inspired from the 1920s. I love this era andhope this glamorous look will stick around in style

Victor and RolfVictor and RolfFall 2008-Ready to Wear

Victor and Rolf is not a design team that is known to beconventional but ones that stick out in the crown fortheir costume and influential work. While many piecesin the 2008 Ready to Wear collection are very wearableVictor and Rolf like to push the boundaries and do whatthey do best theatrics’ and innovative style. Otherpieces in the collection could be sold at Bloomingdalesor Sax while my favorite piece in the collection (shownon the left) would be in a fashion art gallery being sold.I love this piece because of how non-conventional it is.Its bold and daring and at the same time such a chicdesign.

Patternmaker-Patternmakers develop a first pattern which they use to make the prototype for thesample garments that they use to sell to companies. They are a important person in theproduction of fashion. There are three different ways that a patternmaker can developthe prototype draping, flat pattern, and computer-aided design. The educationbackground of a patternmaker is a bachelor degree in fashion design, productdevelopment, apparel manufacturing, or a related field. Usually starting off in a entrylevel position, but just like every other profession when proving themselves in the fieldas a assistant or a pattern grader. To be a patternmaker you have to have a goodunderstanding of math, line, and proportion.

Merchandiser-The main responsibility of the fashion merchandiser is to collaborate with the productdevelopment director on deciding what to produce. They then take it into their ownhands and organize and manage the entire product development. Other responsibilitiesthat a merchandiser has are fashion forecasting, discussing with a panel on what willbe the upcoming trends for the upcoming season. They have a large area ofresponsibilities and to prepare one for the job, the qualification would be gettingbachelors in merchandising, fashion design, retailing, or a related field.

CAREERSCAREERSFashion Designer-Without ideas there would be no product, and without designs there would be no ideas.Fashion designers stretch the boundaries by sketching out ideas on paper then puttingthem in production. In training fashion designers learn how to do many of the designaspects like patternmaking, sewing the garment, and selling. But the main importance ofthe fashion designer is to come up with new ideas, excite and inspire women to fall inlove with their designs.

Retail Trend Forecaster-Retailers spend tons of money on research to figure out what they believe will be thenext trend. The stores do not do that alone, they hire retail trend forecasters to createformal reports that contain fashion trends that will appeal to that specific retailerscustomer. Additionally they predict looks that they believe will be the next new trend forthe upcoming season. This is one of the only jobs that you don’t need a large amount ofeducation in, you just need style.

Fashion Buyer- I wear ensembles what women and fashionhaven’t thought of yet. For retail I would be buying what no onewould think could ever be a trend.

Visual Merchandiser- “I would have never thought of puttingthose garments together!” women say that to me all the time. I’mcould design windows to inspire women to come inside and buy.
