The Downriver Campus provided dual enrollment orientations that assisted students in navigating

the last two weeks.

Sergeant Lee Smith, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department. Sergeant Smith was a regular

The Mary Ellen Stempfle University Center

Dr. Sandra Robinson, Kimett Hackworth, and Shalamar

Guerrant CEO of Doors of Success met to discuss

partnership with the 5th Annual 2018 Essentials for

Success Fair – an all-day family fun day, Community

health fair and Back to school giveaway in partnership

with Detroit City Councilman Andre L. Spivey.

The International Programs Office and the international student body, recognized few of the great

people that work tirelessly to provide good customer service to students from other countries.

Downriver Campus

WCCCD sponsored this year’s Southern Wayne

County Reginal Chamber’s – Taste of Downriver.

Participants were able to sample signature items from

the best eateries of Southern Wayne County, while

enjoying a relaxing summer night in Downtown

Trenton.Furquan Ahmed and Anthony Arminiak

conducted a safety inspection of the

Eastern Campus with a focus on the

science labs and facilities storage.

Downriver Campus hosted the Taylor

International Rotary meeting. This week

District 6400 Governor Paul Sincock was

the guest speaker.

Michigan Institute

for Public Safety

Education

l Hosted The Wayne County Sheriff Taser End User Certification. This course is designed toprovide the student with the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to safely deploy the Taser

X2 Conducted Electrical Weapon.

l Hosted the Wayne County Sheriff’s four-week Entry Training class. The students will be taught such topics as self-defense, CPR, fire safety, ethics and sexual harassment, cultural diversity,

stress management, and legal issues.

l Hosted Beaumont Medical Transportation: Coaching the Emergency Vehicle Operator (CEVO): Ambulance. The goal of the CEVO course is to facilitate the student’s knowledge of the laws

involving the operation of an emergency vehicle.

MIPSE hosted a ceremony for the Fire

Protection Technology students, who

were presented with Certificates of

Completion and a MIPSE pin. Instructors

from the programs were present to

congratulate the students as they

received their certificates.

Hosted WCCCD District Police

Authority for a CPR (cardiopulmonary

resuscitation) and AED (automated

external defibrillator) certification

course, for the adult and child.

New and returning students were assisted at the downtown campus by staff members receiving

assistance with program advising, final registration, and financial aid assistance.

Downtown Campus

l Student Services Athletics hosted an orientation for athletes. Participants were welcomed to

WCCCD and given information on policy/procedures of the athletic department; scholarship

information; code of conduct; dress code, and team schedules.

l Continuing Education Instructors participated in a Orientation as they prepare for the Fall 2018

semester. Instructors reviewed the latest development of the CE processes and procedures

including professional development opportunities and networking through dialogue.

Eastern Campus

The Jewish Vocational Services (JVS) visited the campus to gather program information

about becoming prospective students.

The Inventory Control department is

collecting data to remove outdated

assets.

Staff met with Imagine Mentoring for a community

partnership meeting to discuss recruiting for youth

and toured the campus career programs.

Eastern Campus LRC staff participated in a

webinar with Midwest Collaborative for Library

Services (MCLS).

WCCCD MUS 110 student Elijah Connor starred

on “The Four” on Fox. Mr. Connor attributes

his success to instructor Author Brown; his

curriculum prepared him for the entertainment

industry. Mr. Connor has a contract on the table

with Warner Brothers Music.

Information

Technology Institute

Northwest Campus

The Northwest Campus hosted Redford Union High School students that will be attending WCCCD

for the fall 2018 semester. Students stepped right into campus life during their visit, ID Cards were

issued, and students had hands on experience in our Health Science Departments.

Information Technology Institute (ITI) staff

met with IT recruiters from OtterBase to

discuss internship and employment

opportunities for WCCCD ITI students

and future IT employment trends in the

local region.

Building Community Relations

• Dr. Sandra Robinson attended the quarterly

meeting of “Connecting the Pointes,” a

representative group of community

organizations from Grosse Pointe, Harper

Woods and Eastpointe.

• Mike Dotson attended the August meeting

of the Belleville Area Chamber of

Commerce Board of Directors meeting.

• Michael Poole attended the Executive Board

meeting of the Metro Bureau for School

Studies.

Ted Scott Campus

The Ted Scott Campus partnered with the

Seventh Day Advent Church of Belleville to

offer a Healthy Eating workshop and cooking

demonstration.

Students from the Belleville and Romulus Early College Programs were on site at the Ted Scott

Campus for a Campus tour and orientation in preparation for the start of their classes this Fall.

• Staff at the Ted Scott Campus met with director of the Michigan Works office in the City of

Wayne to recruit students for the Fall semester and to provide information about academic

programs at WCCCD.

College program attended a special orientation

at the Northwest Campus were staff provided

hands on exposure to students in the various

career labs.

Development

Dr. Fidelis D’Cunha and Bruce Ewen met with Rev. Steve Kominieki Pastor of St John Episcopal

Church and Mike Kowicki, the librarian at Sacred Heart Major Seminary who previously was an

adjunct professor of English at WCCCD.

Cynthia Khan from Refuge for Nations one of our community partnerss met with

Dr. Sunanda Sammadar’s students’ who are interested in Fashion design.
