Quick Crochet Booties (originally published in Australian Craft Monthly,

1987)

MATERIALS:

1 25g ball light worsted yarn

Size D crochet hook

Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Instructions are given for 3 months size with 6 months

size in parentheses.

Note: 3-dc cl (3-double crochet cluster stitch) - (Thread over

hook, draw up a loop in next st, thread over hook and

draw through two loops on hook) 3 times, thread over

hook and draw through all 4 loops on hook.

Beginning at sole of bootie, ch 15 (19).

Round 1: Make 3 dc in 4th

ch from hook, dc in next 10 (14) ch, 7 dc in last ch,

turn work around to other side of ch and work dc in remaining free loop of same

10 (14) ch, 3 dc in same ch as first 3 dc, join with sl st to top of beginning ch-3.

(Always count beginning ch-3 as 1 dc.)

Round 2: Ch 3, 3 dc in each of next 2 dc, dc in next 12 (16) dc, 3 dc in each of

next 2 dc, dc in next dc, 3 dc in each of next 2 dc, dc in next 12 (16) dc, 3 dc in

each of next 2 dc, join with sl st to top of beginning ch-3. (50 (58) dc.

Rounds 3 through 5: Ch 3, dc in each dc around, join with sl st to top of

beginning ch-3.

Instep Row 1: Sl st across 14 (15) dc, miss 2 dc, (3-dc cl st over next 3 dc 7 (8)

times, miss 2 dc, sl st in next dc.

Instep Row 2: Turn, ch 1, sc in top of next 7 (8) 3-dc cl sts, sl st in next dc from

Round 5.

Instep Row 3: Turn, 3-dc cl st over next 3 sc, dc in next 1 (2) sc, 3-dc cl st over

next 3 sc, sl st in next dc from Round 5.

Continuing with Cuff:

Round 6: Ch 3, dc in each dc and 3-dc cl st around, join. 28 (32) dc.

Rounds 7 through 10: Ch 3, dc in each dc around, join.

Round 11: Ch 1, sc in each dc around, join. Cut thread and weave in ends with

tapestry needle.

Ties: Ch 4, 3 dc in 1st ch, ch 3, sl st in same ch, ch 90, cut wool leaving a length

of 50 cm. Weave tie through Round 6 with ends at the front of bootie. Make 3

dc in 4th

ch from hook, ch 3, sl st in same ch.

Fasten off and weave in ends.
