Importance of inland waterway transport

• Before the 1990s, over 1.5 million tonnes of freight weretransported annually via the Nemunas

• 1 million tonnes per year potential turnover for cargo port

• Dedicated budget to maintain access roads to port• Commitment to ensure stated Nemunas fairway depth
