    Maruti Suzuki Hopes New Swift, Festival Season Will

    Drive Sales

    NEW DELHI Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. said Wednesday it doesn't expect

    to cut vehicle production in September as the upcoming festival season and anupgraded version of the Swift hatchback will likely drive more customers to itsshowrooms.

    "I don't think we'll need to cut production beyond August," Mayank Pareek,managing executive officer for sales and marketing at Maruti, said at theintroduction of the upgraded Swift hatchback. "The festival season starts inSeptember and that will help revive demand."

    The two-month-long festival season, whichstarts in the last week of September, isconsidered auspicious to make newpurchases in India.

    The Suzuki Motor Corp. unit had saidFriday it would cut production of most of its car models in August to bettermanage stocks due to sluggish demand. The production cut is in line withMaruti's forecast of vehicle sales growing less than 10% in this financial yearthrough March as higher fuel costs, rising loan rates and prolonged inflationarypressures prompt customers to defer purchases.

    Local sales at Maruti, India's largest car maker by sales fell 5% in the April-Julyperiod to 317,187 autos. That compares with a 4% rise in total sales of cars andsport-utility vehicles in India to 785,204 autos.

    "The Swift has been a bestseller since its launch. We expect even better demandfor the new Swift," said Shinzo Nakanishi, chief executive and managingdirector at Maruti.

    Maruti introduced the Swift small car in May 2005 and has since sold more than600,000 units of the model. The Swift is one of Maruti's bestselling models witha waiting period of up to six weeks.

    Maruti has already received orders for 50,000 units of the upgraded Swift, Mr.Pareek said, adding that the company will raise production capacity for the cardue to the strong demand.

    Friday, Mr. Pareek had said that Maruti will increase Swift's production to17,000-18,000 a month by November from about 12,000 currently.

    The company, along with its auto part suppliers, spent 5.5 billion rupees ($122million) to build the new car, which will be sold with gasoline and diesel engine

    options.

    The 1.2-liter gasoline model will cost 422,000 rupees to 553,000 rupees atshowrooms in New Delhi, while the 1.3-liter diesel model will cost 517,000rupees to 638,000 rupees.

    Maruti Suzuki India ltd. has decided to increase the production of all new

    Maruti Suzuki Swift; as festival season starts in September, it will help to revive

    the demand of the car. This time the new car will be a new Avatar of already

    popular car-Maruti Suzuki Swift.

    The engine and suspension of the car

    have been re-tuned for better

    performance and fuel economy. The

    all new Suzuki Swift comes with K12

    Suzuki- 1200 cc 1.2 litres petrol and

    1.3 litres diesel engine, which is same

    as in the existing generation of Maruti

    Swift. The engine produces a torque of 2000 rpm and an overall power of 4000

    rpm. It is a much more fuel efficient car with mileage of 22.9 Kmpl.

    Exterior features like, it is taller than the existing swift by about 155 mm (3696-

    3850 mm); still helping to keep the new swift in small car category in terms of

    tax rules by keeping it less than 4m in length: width has also increased slightly

    from 1690-1695 mm: height has been decreased from 1530- 1510 mm: wheel

    base has been increased from 2390-2430 mm, which adds to better handling &

    performance. The new tail light design extending to the sides and a much more

    attractive rear makes the visual appeal of the new swift much better. Theinteriors of the new style steering with improved central console, better leg

    space for rear passengers. The new seat fabric and door trims give swift a new

    and classier look.The car has been voted as safest Supermini with a 4- star NCAP [ New Car

    Assessment Programme] rating. The NVH[Noise Violence Harshness] levels of

    the car are improved owing to better suspension, larger wheel base, and lower

    height, which makes it environment friendly car. The new Swift 2011 official

    price in India starts at Rs. 4.22 lakhs for Lxi (base petrol) variant and goes up toRs. 6.38 lakhs for Zdi (fully loaded diesel) variant. The car has already received

    over 50,000 advance booking before the official launch event. Its production

    capacity has been increased from 12,000 to 18,000 units per month. As, India is

    heavily relying on the diesel-based vehicles owing to the sudden increase the

    prices of gasoline or petrol; it will help to increase the sales of the new diesel-

    based models of the cars.
