2a. Economic success and set backs• Job creation!
– Farm, marketing, village tourism, woodchip production
• Production volume versus local/ regional market uptake volume– Meat marketing
• National sales with good prices finance regional marketing initiatives
• Store in Berlin was not successful– Jersualem Artichoke (Topinambur) production
• Regional processing (Lienig = 120 km)• Regional, national and international marketing with small
share of regional (juice)
• CAP-reform• Profitable setaside of marginal sites could possibly lead to
new focus in production orientation
A bsr interreg III b project
• Village cafés– Development goals for Zempow– Integrative effects
• Engagement in grassroot movements and business networks- Integration in regional development processes
• Diminishing funding leads to overwork and projects beeing abandoned e.g.:– Nature trails– Farm garden
• Expectations and perceptions of insiders and outsiders to the farm differ substantially – Due to different historic background

2b. Social & historic achievements and set backs
3a) Recommendations to the farm
• Promote activities to create more jobs in Zempow and region– Food academy– Transparent regional meat processing in Bollewick
• Reduction of non farm activities that do not promote regional consumption– Speeches & lectures
• Communicate the difference between Bioranch Zempow and the old state owned farms to the villagers– Hold new round of village cafés
A bsr interreg III b project
3b) Recommendations to politics
• Improve cooperation between ministries– Example: Bollewick in Mecklenburg-Lower Pomerania
• Use leeway for administrative decisions• Coordinate and communicate funding
possibilities on different levels (EU, national, regional etc.)and by different departments
• Communicate goals of local and organic food production and processing top down
• Set political decision for strengthening regional economy
A bsr interreg III b project
4. Implementation
• On farm level– Food academy: funding of personal resources for
fundraising (9.000 euros) by ESF
• On regional/political level– Communicate agenda and raise awareness for the
importance of „crystallization points“ for rural development
