Position Humpty’s right arm next to his black belt, extend it behind Humpty by about 3/4” (2 cm), and tape it in back.

Do the same for his left arm, again lining the arm up with the belt.

Turn the model over and bend both arms away from the front of the face. This will heighten the effect of the illusion later.

Stick Humpty to the tape. Turn the model over and bend the sup-port rectangle back a little, as shown. Next, we’ll build the wall.

There are two sheets for the wall. The one on the left is a guide to all the cuts and folds. Note the slit shown here.

Cut the slit as shown, using a craft knife or a pair of scissors.

Make the four cuts shown in green. Note the position of the sheet, with the ivy away from you. Mountain fold the left side, as shown.

Here’s the front view. Open the slit, as shown.

Insert Humpty’s support rectangle into the wall slit.

Position Humpty so his bottom is slightly below and in front of the top of the wall. Tip him back a bit.

Tape the support rectangle in back. Take a thin wooden skewer or straw about 5” long (13 cm).

Tape the lollipop to the skewer, with the pointed end out, so you can more easily attach it to the model.

And that completes the construction of Humpty Dumpty. Now the fun begins! Close one eye, and slowly rotate the wall so Humpty swings from left to right and back again. You’ll see that he always seems to be going in the opposite direction! (Except for his lollipop, which has a life of its own!)

If Humpty tends to tip forward, tape some coins inside for stability.
