Martin BullivantMartin’s exhibitions are always keenly anticipated and this one is no exception. Martin has his own style and his bold and colourful vista’s of the Island have caught the imagination of the public over the years.

We are delighted to be putting on another exhibition of Martin’s work and the pictures in this catalogue do not do justice to the depth of colour or the nuances in his paintings. Martin paints in acrylic and many of the paintings in this show incorporate a glaze that enriches the colours and give the paintings a certain warmth.

We hope you will pay us a visit during the show. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.

This is what Martin says about this body of work for his exhibition:

I have held several solo and joint exhibitions in Jersey over the years, and this show contains my latest work as I continue to depict the Jersey coast and landscape. These latest paintings display the contemporary, bold and vibrant colours for which I am well known in the homes, hotels and offices of the island, in addition to my many paintings in private and corporate collections world-wide.

“Some places in the world just cry out to be painted” The new movie just out, 'Mr Turner' is about my hero, J.M.W. Turner, the greatest painter who has ever lived. He travelled the known world of his day to paint some of the most beautiful places like Venice, and the great European mountains. He was known as a painter of light, and he is my greatest inspiration. Jersey is a unique place, and like Venice, the amazing light of Jersey's early mornings, evenings and sunsets just stops me in my tracks time and again. Whether on the water, sand, rocks or just illuminating the immense skies that tower over St Ouen's Bay, that light is at the very heart of what it is like to walk Jersey's coastline. It is always my mission to capture it.

“A painting is a way of preserving a moment, perhaps a quiet early morning walk, or a passing instant one evening when the last light fades and the landscape seems to glow for that minute, and is gone. By capturing it in a painting, we can stay in that moment forever”.
